Chapter 615 Father's Love And Obsession
Chapter 615 Father's Love And Obsession
(From Dion's Perspective)
"You okay, Mum?" I asked Mum as I sat at her table in her office.
"Yeah, fine." She looked pale and worn-out. "Have you seen your sister, Dion? I don't know where she is. She wasn't at breakfast today. I heard she went out. But where? Do you know anything about it?"
I shook my head.
"She keeps worrying me. You know, with all the things regarding Melissa and Abel… Gosh… Then your father…"
"Why is he like that, Mum?"
"It's nothing, Dion."
"Father has always been like that, hasn't he? You never even do anything for him to question your loyalty. Then why?"
"Dion…"
"I am old enough to know these things, Mum. I'm seventeen. I'm not a kid anymore."
"I know, baby, it's just… Your father doesn't question my loyalty. It's not that." She runs a finger through her hair. It is undone today, which is not usual. Mum usually keeps her hair in a bun or a braid. "He knows I am loyal. He doesn't question that even for a fleeting moment. You know how men are? Some men do… um… feel things for me. Your father doesn't mind that either. But the thing is, if that man is someone a little close to me or if I talk to that man for more than a minute, he doesn't like it. He is too jealous."
"That's not okay, though. It's not your fault, Mum."
Mum smiled. "You don't have to worry about that, Dion. Your father and I are not fighting anymore."
"It's not that, Mum…"
"I am fine, Dion. Don't worry about me. I'm okay."
"She looks like you."
"What?" Mum looked up at me, surprised.
"Evan's wife. She looks a lot like you," I said. It felt good to let it out. "Father is not wrong about it, Mum."
Mum let out a sigh. "I'm not blind, Dion. I had my suspicions. But really, if Evan decided not to tell me anything, who am I to question that? He respected my marital status and I respected his feelings. It doesn't matter if Evan has feelings for me or married his wife because she looks like me. Evan is my friend and it will remain that way."
"When you were pregnant with me, he helped you a lot, didn't he, in the absence of Father?"
"Yes. He has been there for me." Mum was wearing her necklace today, so I could not read her thoughts. I truly wanted to at this moment. I wanted to know if Mum truly did not see how Evan felt all those years ago. "Evan is a good man. He might not even feel that way for me if he even felt that way for me in the first place. We are sure of nothing, after all."
Mum had no idea. Evan's wife knew that Evan had feelings for Mum. She did not care. I could not read Evan's mind, but I could read hers. I knew that Evan still loved Mum. I also knew that Evan called her by Mum's name when they were intimate. This was an information forced onto me. I did not have any desire to know things like this. After all, she was my mother. It was gross.
"Your father will probably ask you about it again when I'm not there. Just tell him the truth, okay?" Find your next adventure on My Virtual Library Empire
"He will get angry."
She chuckled. "He is angry now anyway. I mean, what will he do about it?"
That was true. It was not like Father would do anything about it. He could not tell anything to Evan because Mum forbade it. And he would never hurt Mum, that much was certain. Father loved Mum. He was obsessed with her. He would never do something to hurt her. At least, not physically.
"Go and find out where your sister is, Dion. Don't worry about unnecessary things, okay?"
"Yes, Mum."
It turned out Bree went to shop. Fortunately, Calix was with her. And what surprised me was the fact that someone else was with her too.
It was Father.
"Father wanted to buy something for Mum because she is angry at him," Bree told me when she saw me. Father was looking at some flat shoes. "He said he wanted to come with me when I said I would go shopping."
"It's his fault Mum is angry."
"Yeah."
Father spent the next hour choosing twenty pair of shoes for Mum. He had chosen dresses before that, Bree told me.
"I don't know, Father. I think it's too much," I could not help pointing out. "You know, Mum doesn't like all these flashy things."
"If you can't say anything useful, Dion, why don't you go back home?" Father said.
Calix and I shared a look. Father was crazy. So was Bree, because she was encouraging him.
Since Mum told me to keep Bree company, I went to store to store with them. Father bought everything for Mum. By everything, I meant literally everything. He even bought stationary items. Books as well.
"Why don't you buy Mum a dagger while you are at it? The one she uses is old," I said.
"Blue uses the dagger that I gave her years ago. She made her first kill with that dagger," he said with a smirk. "That was… You are my children. I shouldn't use such words in front of you."
"Ew, Father. That's gross," Bree said.
"I don't see what's gross about your father loving your mother," Father pointed out.
"It's… Listen, we know you two love each other. But we don't need to know everything, okay?" Bree said.
"You don't agree with this, do you?" Father asked me.
"As a matter of fact, I do. It's gross, Father," I said.
He shrugged. "Well, nothing to do. I am going to love your mother this way forever and you just have to deal with it."
When Father said it, it was not an exaggeration. The future was always uncertain. But nothing would change Father's love and obsession for Mum. The same went for Mum. Mum would forever love him because he was the man who saved her. And for Father, Mum was the only woman who ever accepted him for himself.
