Chapter 616 Not Here
Chapter 616 Not Here
(From Blue's Perspective)
"The kids have grown so much. It feels like yesterday when I saw Dion barely a second old," Evan said.
"I know, right? You blink and they are all grown-up," I chuckled. "How is the queen? And Benjamin?"
"They are fine," Evan said. "Benjamin wanted to come, but you mentioned Demian went with the master and the mistress of the magic tower, so Ben changed his mind."
"I did not agree to Demian going with Luc and Ruby. He was stubborn," I said.
"He has always been the stubborn one, hasn't he? Now, Blue, why don't you tell me about yourself? How have you been?"
Evan had grown old. He was in his fifties now. His golden hair was streaked with gray ones. His golden eyes were as vibrant as before. His physique was still strong.
"Same old," I said.
"The word 'old' doesn't suit you using it. You are as young as I saw you years ago. It is like going back in the past," he said. "Just I remain the same way, but you are young and…"
Now that I started to notice some things about Evan with much more attention than before, it was actually pretty obvious that he had feelings for me. I could swear it was not so obvious when I was pregnant with Dion. Even after that, he did not act this way. But in the last few years, he gave me some hints sometimes, that I had refused to notice before.
"Bree made me a flower crown," Evan said. "She gave it to me as soon as I arrived."
"She likes you," I said. "She likes the chocolates you bring more though." We shared a laugh.
Then I told him about the incident that took place in Bree's room. Even talking about it made me shudder.
"Do you know who that man was?" he asked.
I nodded. "Dion looked into it. That man was a twenty-year-old shepherd. Dion found portraits of Bree in his room. He was obsessed with her. God, Bree is just a kid! I can't believe it! Then he sneaked into his room to… I can't even think about it, Evan. If Dem had not gotten there in time, something huge would have happened."
"That must have been terrifying. Little Bree… Honestly, I hate men being obsessed with women or girls," he said and I had a feeling he did not say it just about the man who sneaked into Bree's room. "Besides, Bree is just a little girl."
"Disgusting," I grumbled. "I didn't say it earlier, but Bree is partly to blame as well."
"Bree? Why?" Evan was shocked.
"I made a protective barrier so no one could sneak in around each of my children's room. But then, Bree, being so carefree and stubborn, had Demian break hers."
"Demian broke
your
protective barrier?"
"Yes. He is that powerful. Anyway, that's beside the point. Bree thought she could protect herself, so she had broken hers. I had no idea until that night. Demian broke it in a way that I did not even notice. He made a false barrier so anyone could be fooled into thinking it was a real barrier. He wanted to fool me which he did. I did not look close enough to see the faults. Later, I asked Bree about it and she confessed. Demian is getting an earful when he comes back," I said. "And yes, I made another barrier and warned Bree never to do something like that again. I don't think she will, but I don't trust her, so I check every day to make sure it's there."
Evan seemed thoughtful.
"Demian is not just a normal dark mage, is he? His potential… He is so young, but he can do this much. I wonder… Blue, do you think he has more black mana than you?"
I nodded. "I think so. It's a hard thing to exactly say. His body automatically makes a barrier to keep anyone from seeing anything inside him. I can't even detect the exact amount of black mana he has. But I think he has more than me."
"That's why Azure wanted him. He still wants him. Blue, I don't think you should have let Demian get away from the palace, from you."
"You think…"
"Send someone to the island. Something might be wrong."
I did not waste anymore time. In fact, I did not send just anyone to see if everything was alright. For teleporting, it was important to know what the place you wanted to teleport to looked like. If you had no idea, then you needed to have something of a person who were at that place. I had parts of my children that I kept in a drawer of my office. For example, I had a few strands of all my children's hair kept in separate jars so I could teleport to them any time no matter where they were. Even they had no idea that I had them. Demian was nosy, so I made a secret compartment in the third drawer of my table so even he would not be able to find it.
Evan and I went to my office from the garden. There, I found the jar containing Demian's hair easily.
"That's brilliant," Evan commented. "I have to give you that." Find adventures at My Virtual Library Empire
"Don't mention it to anyone. The children don't know. Bree will freak out and get angry. Demian will want to carry my hair then, if he already doesn't," I said. "Now, come on. Do you want to come with me?"
"Of course, Blue. You are not going there alone," Evan said.
"Shit, Dem doesn't know… Well, whatever. There is no time to waste. I will leave him a note here."
Evan and I teleport using the strand of hair as direction. We knew we reached the correct location because Ruby was right in front of us, enjoying a cup of tea in the sun. I was a little dizzy from the journey. Evan steadied me with a hand on the small of my back.
"Your Highness? Lord Evan?"
"Where is Demian, Ruby?" I asked.
"Demian? He was with me a while ago. Then he said he wanted to sleep, so went back to his room. Why? Is something wrong? Are Dion and Bree okay? His Highness?"
"They are all fine. I just need to see Demian," I said. I was already feeling a lot better. I exchanged a look with Evan. If Demian was with Ruby even a while ago, he should be fine. But since we were here, we should see him anyway.
"Come with me. I will take you to him," Ruby said, getting up.
On our way, I took in the surroundings. It was indeed a beautiful island- perfect for relaxing. No one lived here, so it was wonderfully quiet.
"I do apologize for barging in like that," I said. "I know I shouldn't have done that."
"It's nothing, Your Highness. You must be worried about Demian."
"I am not worried because I know he will be okay with you two. However, something has been nagging me at the back of my mind and I have this bad feeling… I don't know. I just want to make sure… I hope I am not offending you, Ruby."
"Please, Your Highness. I am not offended at all. In fact, I suppose it's only natural to check on him since you have this bad feeling. Checking on him will make you feel assured."
"Yes. I hope so."
Ruby took us inside the relatively small mansion where they were staying. It looked comfortable and was decorated extravagantly. It was beautiful.
"I chose the decorations," Ruby said. "I am rather proud of it, to be honest."
"You should be," I said. "It looks gorgeous. It looks like a cozy home."
"It feels that way too."
We arrived in front of Demian's room. Ruby knocked on it.
"Demian," she called. "Her Highness is here. Open the door, please."
"Just push it open. Is it locked?" I tried the knob. It was locked. "I don't let him lock the door at the palace. He keeps making a mess every time he locks the door." Last time he locked the door, he blasted a dung bomb that he made. The smell did not go away in a whole month even though I had maids clean the room thoroughly.
"Let me open it," Evan said.
Evan opened it with magic within a second. The moment he pushed open the door, I was certain of one thing. And I turned out to be right.
"He is not here," Ruby gasped.
