Chapter 343 Nefarath.
Chapter 343 Nefarath.
Zachary was silently observing the forest from the tree as he watched his team sleeping under the tree he was on. It was so quiet that he could hear his heartbeat, and it made him wary of every movement he made since a small noise was enough to echo throughout the forest.
While he was observing the darkness in the distance, he could hear leaves rubbing against each other from the distance. He immediately looked in the direction of the sound, and it wasn't just him, Aston and the others were awoken by that sound. They were frozen still and pointed their eyes toward the sound because they didn't want to make a sudden move.
They never thought they would feel nervous to make a sound, and their lives depended on the silence. Aston was the first to stand up and he didn't make a sound at all, but that also meant he couldn't wear the gauntlet.
"Don't move..." Zachary whispered.
Those who were about to stand up immediately stayed still and tried to listen. They heard the rustling sounds were moving from their far left to their far right. Then suddenly they heard a soft sobbing from the distance, a disturbing sobbing of a woman that gave everyone chills down their spines.
The sobbing became closer and clearer and they could tell the voice was coming toward them. They were nervous and scared because they didn't know what kind of demon they were dealing with. Knowing that Zachary took the initiative and threw a biscuit that he kept in his pocket as far as he could.
The moment the biscuit hit the ground, the rustling sound stopped and everyone held their breath. Everyone was having a cold sweat and what terrified them the most was the demon didn't check the noise, she was observing her surroundings.
It was quiet for a while minute until they heard disturbing giggles that echoed throughout the forest. What made them almost lose their strength was when the giggles were coming from above them.
They slowly looked up and realized that the demon was tracking where the biscuit was thrown from. They could see massive sharp shiny teeth with blood and saliva dripping from each of them. Eyes that glared at them with her wide grinning face and legs on her back that stabbed the top of the trees. She was upside down with her long scythe-like arms spread open.
A sound of branch snapping could be heard from behind her and it was Zachary who jumped at her with his sword ready. He swung his sword at had back, but she sprouted another leg from her back to block his attack. But since his sword was sharp and sturdy, he cut the leg and managed to cut off dozens of her legs.
"Run to the open!" Zachary screamed his lungs out as he was free-falling with his back facing the ground and stared at the demon.
Zachary saw dozens of legs sprouting from the demon's back and was about to stab him from all directions. He couldn't block them all especially when he was in mid-air, but thankfully Aston kicked half of them away from him. He managed to land safely and thanked Aston for saving his life, and then they both ran to catch up with the others.
There was no way for those two to outrun the demon who had hundreds of legs and each leap she took was two hundred meters long. They were struggling to block the legs that appeared from above, behind, left, right, and even from the ground. It was similar to the fight with Frigna, but a lot deadlier.
Nefarath and Frigna were similar in terms of ability, but one for defensive and the other one for offensive. It had been always like that and what made Nefarath different from Frigna was her swiftness and precision.
They both thought they wouldn't be able to survive before they could leave the forest, but it was thanks to the others who burned the forest. It made Nefarath have to walk on the ground rather than move from tree to tree. They both barely survived the chase and managed to leave the forest while the others bombarded Nefarath with arrows and magic spells.
They thought the fire would be her weakness, but she was unscathed and her skin was unburned. She pulled back her legs into her body and she walked with her two feet as she wrapped herself with webs into a dress. She was smiling as she walked out of the forest and showed her beautiful face and long black hair that almost touched the ground.
"You think being in the open would make you safe?" Nefarath raised her eyebrow.
None of them answered her question and readied their stance to fight which made her laugh. She then cracked all her finger joints, turning her human-like fingers into scythe-like fingers. She smirked and dashed forward, left, and right like a spider, making her movements unpredictable.
Zachary charged toward Nefarath to avoid the others from getting killed by her knowing they wouldn't be able to stop her if nobody stopped her. He used himself as bait and helped the others to get in position and be able to defend themselves from her legs that were razor sharp.
Zachary was clashing with Nefarath and he struggled to fight her alone. It wasn't because he couldn't cut her arms and legs, but it was quite the opposite. Every attack he did, Nefarath didn't block it, she repelled it by pushing the body of the blade rather than the sharp edges. She knew the sword was too much for her and it was impossible to block it, so she kept pushing the sword away with extreme precision.
Aston came in and helped Zachary who was overwhelmed by Nefarath. He dodged all the attacks and managed to break some of the legs with his kicks and punches. He was a reliable ally and helped Zachary to change the tide while the others were getting closer and closer to help him as well.
"How simple-minded..." Nefarath giggled.
Zachary and Aston were anxious when they heard that because they might fall for her trap. It was as they were feared, Nefarath sprouted dozens of legs from her back with a massive webbing attached to them.
Before Zachary could warn the others to run away, the webbing fell on top of them. It was so sticky and heavy that it was impossible for them to move even an inch. They were trapped in the webbing while Nefarath was standing in the center with her legs ready to stab them to death.
"Blizzard fangs..."
A storm formed right above Nefarath and quickly descended as icicles swirled around her. The icicles were razor sharp and so sturdy that they were strong enough to break her bones. Not only that, the cold gave her frostbite, reducing her movements and shrinking her muscles.
"Hyperblast..."
A strong gust of wind pushed Nefarath away from Zachary and the others. The wind became stronger and fiercer that it was enough to extinguish the raging flames in the forest which was a hundred meters away from them.
"Blizzard blast..."
The storm of razor-sharp icicles and the gust of wind combined, blasting the icicles at the speed of sound. All the icicles pierced Nefarath's skin and body and her whole body was covered in icicles.
"Earth pillars..."
Pillars came out in between Zachary and the others, lifting the webbing into the air. Since they were stuck on it, they were hanging in the air, but then fireballs burned the webbing, releasing them from the trap.
Everyone was wondering who helped them and how that person could deal with Nefarath on their own. When they lifted their heads to look at the person, it was Javelin, on her own with her staff in her hands. She was relieved that she came right on time or she would save dead bodies.
"I'm glad that you're here..." Zachary sighed with relief. "We owe you one," he stood up as he stood right next to Javelin.
"Seriously. You're only holding yourself back by bringing these guys along. Do you have a death wish?" Javelin stared at Zachary angrily.
Nobody understood what Javelin was talking about, but they realized they were only hindrances to Zachary. Aston on the other hand was curious what she meant by that, and it was his first time meeting Javelin.
"I can't be too reliant on my abilities. I'm not like you who needed your abilities to fight," Zachary answered as he tightened his grip on his sword.
"Then go ahead and die," Javelin stared Zachary in the eye. "I came all the way here so I can help you, but you're going to waste my time? I'm leaving the dangerous rifts behind for this? Just go and die," she added.
Zachary was surprised when Javelin said something like that, but he wondered why she was there in the first place. Find exclusive stories on My Virtual Library Empire
"How did you get here? I thought you were busy," Zachary asked.
"I made a deal with the devil. I was willing and was forced at the same time to come here" Javelin answered. "We can talk about it when we are done here."
"I see..." Zachary pitied Javelin. "Please stand aside, all of you. I'm going to fight her alone," he said as he walked toward Nefarath. "I'll entrust my back to you," he looked at Javelin over his shoulder.
"That's why I'm here in the first place," Javelin said as she pointed her staff at Nefarath.
