Chapter 344 A wild appearance.
Chapter 344 A wild appearance.
Aston was in awe and disbelief as he watched Zachary on an equal footing with Nefarath. He couldn't see the attacks that both Zachary and Nefarath threw at each other. His eyes were deceived by him because it looked like Zachary's hands were leaving afterimages every time he moved his hands.
"Shit, so you were going easy on me back there, huh?" Aston scoffed as he shook his head in disbelief. "I need to train a lot harder from now on. I need to catch up with you so I can thread a similar path like you," he added.
While everyone was watching the fight, Javelin prepared a powerful spell that required her to make a magic circle. She learned a lot of things during her solo raid and the achievements she received from clearing a lot of rifts in a week.
"This connects to this side..." Javelin mumbled to herself as she drew the magic circle. "Now, I just need to cast the spell..." She stood up and looked at the magic circle around her since she was standing in the middle of it.
Aston looked at the four magic circles that were created by Javelin that appeared to be circling Zachary and Nefarath from a one-hundred-meter radius. He watched Javelin mumble to herself as she held the staff tightly and pointed at the four magic circles.
The moment the magic circles glowed, a dome made of a red magic barrier was formed. The barrier that surrounded Zachary and Nefarath, made both of them look at it.
Nefarath saw something similar to the barrier, but the one that she saw back then was a lot more powerful. But that didn't mean what Javelin made could be discarded because what came after could harm her.
The dome with red color suddenly changed to bright orange, and it possessed a divine aura. The aura made Nefarath weak while it made Zachary stronger, not to mention his sword became lighter and sharper. It made things even harder for Nefarath because she never thought a God would pass down that power to a mere human.
"Stare at me as you want! My death will only bring the glory of my sister!" Nefarath screamed her lungs out, almost breaking the barrier. "The time is near, and your death is imminent!" She glared at the barrier as she saw the eyes of Gods staring down at her.
Everyone heard what Nefarath said and why suddenly she snapped like that at the Gods. Zachary and Aston who had a conversation about that topic made them think if there was something that the Gods hid from them.
Zachary readied his stance and continued attacking Nefarath with the overwhelming power that lingered around his body. But he never expected that Nefarath's power would get amplified by her rage, and how she sliced his arms, legs, and body with her razor-sharp arms and legs.
"I'm done with playing. If you want to kill me, you have to put your life on the line!" Nefarath sliced Zachary's face when she planned to cut his head off but he dodged it.
Zachary could only block a third of all the attacks Nefarath threw at him. He started to feel the stings on his body and how his movements were limited by the wounds. He knew he couldn't win, but he had Javelin that would have a plan to help him in all kinds of situations.
The barrier suddenly turned brighter and it made Nefarath stun for a moment. Beams were shot at her, piercing her body, the beam that burned her soul rather than her physical body. Seeing that Nefarath was in pain, Zachary used that opportunity to cut her head, but Nefarath had a defense mechanism, her silk dress wrapped her whole body into a cocoon. The silk was hard to cut even with the Light Sword, and the beams were having trouble piercing through the thick layers of silk. But they knew she was delaying her death, and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
When Zachary was about to cut the layers of silk on Nefarath's head, a rift was opened behind Nefarath. The rift was strong enough to break the barrier that Javelin made, shattered it, and destroyed the magic circles.
A woman hiding in her black veil, black long dress, and massive black feathered wings came out of the rift. Her presence was enough to put everyone in fear and sadness, and the longer she was present in that place, the heavier the atmosphere became.
She walked toward the cocoon and reached out her pale hand, an almost purplish and really pale hand. She cut the cocoon with her black nail like she was moving her finger in the water. She then pulled Nefarath from the cocoon and saw Nefarath tremble in pain.
The woman looked at Javelin, hanging on to her staff because she used not only her whole strength but her life force as well. She could die if she had to use that beam for another minute, and she didn't know if she should be grateful or scared that the barrier had been destroyed.
Zachary knew he was no match for that woman, and he knew if he decided to attack her, his head would fly off his body. The moment he realized the woman stared at him, his body stiffened, and felt like his heart was being clenched and would crush in any second.
The woman folded her knees and sat on her own legs as she put Nefarath's head on her lap. She leaned her head down, covering Nefarath's face with her long black hair, and it seemed that she was whispering something to Nefarath.
The woman stood up and walked back to the rift she came from, leaving Nefarath on the ground. She left without saying anything or doing anything to them which made it so bizarre to look at. But, they were glad that they didn't have to fight her because it would be over before it even started.
Zachary slowly walked toward Nefarath and looked at her expression which gave a chill down his spine. She was smiling but her eyes were empty as if she had been hypnotized by the woman earlier.
"Kill me," Nefarath glanced at Zachary. "The future for humanity is about to disappear. Enjoy the remaining time you have left," she smirked.
Zachary pointed his sword right at her chest, and he didn't hesitate to stab her in the heart. Nefarath was laughing frantically as she started spitting venom and blood that was enough to melt the ground. At that moment, he knew that she still had a few tricks up her sleeve and that it would be over if she did take the fight seriously.
A notification of rift clearance appeared in front of their eyes, and they were glad that it was over. Only three people were underwhelmed by the situation, the mysterious woman, and why Nefarath decided to offer her life. Something was suspicious and the more they thought about it, the more disturbing it became.
"I need a drink..." Zachary said as he helped Javelin walk.
"Treat me," Javelin responded with her eyes closed.
"Sure, let's have a drink in my place. I'll ask Aston if he wants to join or not," Zachary said and he was worried about Javelin's health and condition.
Aston agreed since he loved booze more than anyone, but when he remembered the day he had a drink with Mykel, it made him reconsider. The three of them and the others left the rift, and people swarmed them like flies, bombarding them with questions. Zachary and the others agreed to keep what they saw and heard a secret because it would only bring problems.
Although people were asking about the raid, their questions shifted when they saw Javelin. Their troubled expression and their questions were quite rude to her, and Aston immediately shifted the attention to him by punching the reporter.
"I still got it," Aston said after he scared all the reporters.
"Thank you, but you don't have to do that," Javelin looked at Aston and found his personality quite interesting. "I hope they didn't sue you for doing that."
"What can they do? We are saving the world and they want to sue us? They must be idiots," Aston scoffed as he walked alongside Javelin to make the reporters silent.
The reporters were wondering why the Faelethria Kingdom had decided to help the Dystrovia nation when Elestria told them they were busy. Rumors and speculations started to spread that the Faelethria Kingdom wanted to take over Dystrovia nation after a piece of land was given to the Faelethria Kingdom back then. They assumed that behind Elestria's help, she had a hidden motive and it didn't look like a coincidence at all.
"Don't think about it too much. I'm sorry that it happened," Zachary said quietly.
"It's fine. I'm not a nationalist, and I don't really care much about what they're trying to do. What's done is done, what can you do," Javelin responded as she entered the car with Zachary's help.
