Destroying My Own World

Chapter 342 Vicious hunter.

Chapter 342 Vicious hunter.

The dark forest was burned to ashes under Zachary's command and the fire and the smoke lured out all the monsters. The battle lasted all night and the red sun was already up high when the battle was over. There were too many casualties that there were only a few of them that could still fight.

"There were thousands of us, and now only a few hundred that could still fight. This place is really draining our forces and manpower," Aston looked back at the injured.

"I have expected something like this would happen. It's not the first time it has happened," Zachary turned around and walked toward the injured.

Zachary gave a short speech and thanked those who had risked their lives to enter the rift. He then told those who were injured to leave the rift because their journey had ended. He didn't want more lives to be taken, so he only selected a few people to stay and explore the forest.

Aston thought those people would be happy to leave, but the fact they promised to come back once they got better made him realize they were different. Those people in front of them were the people who took the situation seriously and they were all prepared to die for the cause.

"What's the matter? Do you want to go back as well? It's okay if you want to leave since this is your first experience inside the rift. Everyone will understand," Zachary looked at Aston who was staring blankly at the people walking out of the rift.

"No, I'm fine. This much is bearable and I'm getting used to this already," Aston answered. "With this fewer people with us, we have enough food for a few weeks or maybe a month."

"I don't think it would take us a week to clear the rift or die. Just keep your eyes on your surroundings and don't get tricked by the forest or the demon," Zachary pointed out.

They started exploring the forest that had been burned down, and it made things easier for them to look around. They took things slowly because the forest was still on fire, devouring the forest rapidly. They wanted to clean up the monsters that existed first before they could deal with the demons.

Two days had passed and they didn't encounter the monster that massacred thousands of people. They also noticed encounters with the monsters were getting less and less frequent. It made them feel a bit at ease since things went smoothly as there wasn't a single casualty ever since they explored the forest again.

They were no longer moving in a circle as they kept following the fire to guide them further from the rift. But the smoke became quite a hindrance and they had to stay close to avoid being lost and getting ambushed by monsters.

On the third day, they noticed something, something that made them all frozen still. Thousands of monsters were trapped on cobwebs which answered the disappearance of the monsters. They could see the monsters had turned into cocoons and none of them were alive.

"I think we are close," Zachary said as he looked up at the cobwebs. "The reason the fire had stopped burning the forest, must be something had extinguished the flames," he added.

"So it was a spider that killed them back then," Aston already knew the spider that caught the monsters was the same spider that massacred those people. "A spider with a thousand legs. Why do I feel like I don't want to imagine that monstrosity," he added.

"At least we know what we are dealing with. We just need to be cautious and make sure none of us fall into her traps," Zachary warned as he walked deeper into the forest. "A spider is a vicious hunter. The moment you're targeted by it, you're as good as dead," he added.

They all followed Zachary's path and made sure they didn't touch the webbing because it connected throughout the first. A single vibration was enough to signal where it came from and they would be in big trouble.

"I think we should rest for the day. I will guard for the night and you guys can sleep with ease," Zachary said after he found a perfect place to rest.

They nodded their heads and immediately made the tents for them to sleep.

"Good work, Miss Javelin..." A woman in a black suit greeted Javelin the moment she came out of the rift. "We received information that there's a new rift appeared not fat from here," she informed.

"God..." Javelin sighed as she rubbed her face in frustration. "How many rifts that we have cleared now?" she glanced at the woman.

"Fourteen rifts from the past week," The woman answered and she looked worried about Javelin's health since she had been exhausting herself and hadn't slept for two days. "Miss Javelin. I think you should rest first because the rift is just formed so it would be fine if we ignore it for a day," she suggested.

Javelin knew she couldn't keep clearing the rift knowing that it would only bring the twenty-first rift to appear faster. She also wasn't in the right state of mind and body to clear the rift because she had almost lost a few of her members back there since she made a rash decision.

She decided to rest and everyone was relieved that they could rest after a long week of hunting monsters. They didn't have any desire to do anything but to hit the bed and a nice warm bath for hours. They didn't care about the situation in the nation. They knew those outlaws didn't dare to touch them because they were the only ones who could protect the nation from monsters.

"The raid went that badly, huh?" Javelin looked at the article on the phone as she was bathing in ice-cold water. "I thought I could join you, but turns out the situation here is worse than I expected," she sighed and then put her head in the water.

She was about to enjoy her time in the bath, but someone knocked on the door. She glanced at her bathroom door and with her sense of magic she could see who was outside her apartment. She was confused when she saw Mykel, but she jolted the moment he stared back at her when he sensed her magic.

"Why is he here..." Javelin nervously got out of the bathtub and wrapped herself in a towel. "He knew that I was watching so I have no other choice but to let him in..." she mumbled.

She opened the door slowly after she put on a sleeping dress and looked at Mykel standing in front of her.

"I'm not going to bother your resting time, so I'll make it quick," Mykel said quietly. "My team will help you clear the rift," he looked at Javelin's tired expression. "We are staying at the hotel across the street. Meet us when you're ready to clear the rifts again," he added and left.

Javelin was in disbelief, but her mind was so tired that she didn't want to think about it. She then closed the door and went straight to bed because she couldn't keep her eyes open anymore.

The morning came, and Javelin felt refreshed like she had been reborn, and that she didn't feel any soreness on her body. She took another bath but it was a hot bath this time and she bathed for an hour since she wouldn't have time to do that later on. Once she felt clean and her stomach filled, she went to the hotel where Mykel was staying.

She was escorted to the VIP lobby which could only be accessed by people who used the top floor of the hotel. She saw Mykel, Victoria, Sophia, Duncan, Felix, and Sabel enjoying their breakfast while they were staring out at the city.

"How was your sleep? I hope you're feeling a lot better now," Mykel looked at Javelin standing outside the dining hall. "Come in, help yourself," he pointed at the long table filled with all kinds of food and drink.

"Just cut to the chase why are you here and for what reason?" Javelin asked with her eyebrows furrowed.

"Did Zachary tell you about me?" Mykel stared coldly at Javelin.

At that moment the warmth that still lingered from the hot bath she took suddenly disappeared like a strong wind blew it off. The cold started to crawl from the back of her feet and up to her nape, giving her chills.

"You don't want anything from me, and it's totally fine. But, I need something from you. The future of your nation might not matter to you, but if you treasure your life, you should do what I'm about to tell you," Mykel pointed out and kept staring at Javelin.

Javelin gulped and noticed all eyes were on her, those eyes that warned her to not make a stupid decision.

"Now. Why don't you help yourself? We have so many to talk about," Mykel pointed at the empty seat across from him.
