?
Yarin's POV:
I tried my best to attract Lily's attention, and finally, she saw me. She was surprised, of course, because I wasn't supposed to be there.
However, she was intelligent and knew that the only possibility for me to appear here was that reinforcements had arrived. So she put her feet together and hid me behind her shoes. She secretly and vigilantly looked at the young man who seemed to be the mastermind.
I believed he was Karter.
He kept looking at the chaotic scene outside the window as if the power that could make people lose their minds did not affect him.
While he did not notice me, I climbed onto Lily's body and hid behind her ponytail to whisper to her.
"How are you? Are you injured? Did they do anything to you?"
Lily didn't say anything but shook her head subtly. I was small, and my voice was low, but she was too close to Karter.
"Is that person Karter?"
Lily nodded.
He was the one who planned the Moonlight Festival incident and used a car accident to take Kara's life. He treated the werewolves as his toys and wantonly killed them.
Even in this office, there were countless corpses. I couldn't imagine what other 'prisons' would be like.
The carrying capacity of the 'key' was limited. The life of a criminal could only allow the existing warriors to travel through space once. Aunt Eve regrouped them and destroyed the strongholds on each floor individually.
It was difficult not to cause a big commotion. Karter would notice and go out to check. When The left, I could let Lily and the other hostages go.
The reinforcement of the Silver Moon Pack was coming. Aunt Eve would collect more keys. If the keys' carrying capacity were insufficient, it would be time for the criminal to pay with his life.
"Wait a minute," I whispered into Lily's ear. "Karter will be lured away in about ten minutes. I'll be able to release you then. I'll go check on the other hostages."
There was no lack of familiar faces among the hostages. On that night of horror, they had given me warm care. However, these kind people were now trapped in the corner like pigs. They were still struggling to survive, but some would never see the sun tomorrow.
Hiding behind a corpse, I saw a nameplate on her chest that read 'Grayston, Intern at the Archives.'
Grayston, I seemed to have seen this surname somewhere. It was Reddrick's surname. The dead intern was Reddrick's sister.
I felt as if my heart was being gripped tightly by a rough hand, making it difficult for me to breathe.
What would Reddrick do when he found out about this? He had come for his fiancée and sister. The life and death of his sister were unknown, but the truth was his blood-related relative had already died. How would he accept her death when he came to his sister's corpse and saw her pale and terrified face?
Their hope had been completely shattered. They were forever separated from each other! There were even more corpses beside Ms. Grayston. Most of them had not suffered any abuse before dying, perhaps the only thing worth celebrating. Karter seemed not to be a masochist, but what about the older man whose hands were pierced by ropes?
A violent gunshot suddenly came from outside, accompanied by a sharp roar and exasperated curses. This immediately attracted Karter's attention. However, he did not seem surprised at all. Instead, he complained, "This is a little later than I expected."
He strode out and suddenly turned back halfway. He said to Lily regretfully, "You managed to avoid a disaster for now. It seems that good luck is on your side today, Miss."
Then, he left.
We waited a while to make sure he wouldn't come back, so I immediately climbed onto the table, rolled up a paper cutter, and handed it to Lily.
A few seconds later, Lily cut the rope. The broken silver wire fell on the carpet, and the blood dyed the dark pink carpet a deeper red.
Her hands were burned so deeply that her bones were visible. They hung weakly on both sides of her body, trembling slightly, and her fingers twitched occasionally.
Other than her, no one noticed my existence. Lily followed the principle of confidentiality and did not reveal my existence. She only untied the restraints on the hostages under their surprised gazes.
"Before he comes back, everyone, get away quickly."
I prompted her to pull back the person who wanted to leave through the door, opened the window, and gestured, "The entire building is unsafe now. There is a battle outside. If we go out, we will be walking into a trap. The only way now was to find another way. It would be safer to go through the window."
"But this is the top floor!" a hostage said awkwardly.
Even for a werewolf, asking someone to jump down from the sixth floor in shock and hunger was too tricky.
Of course, Lily would not let the hostages die in vain. She asked everyone to remove their excess clothes and weave them into a strong, long rope. Then, she selected a few people who looked strong enough to go down first. They would protect others who accidentally fell off the building or took a wrong step.
