Chapter 660: The Stone
?
Yarin's POV:
I learned more details from Aunt Dorothy about that year, such as the path between the vast snow mountains and Mullvica's hut.
However, as she said, spatial magic was a type of magic with extremely harsh requirements on talent and strength. Ordinary people could not even touch the threshold.
The Lily of the Valley was a human organization. Could they have recruited powerful witches or wizards that were rare? Witches and wizards had always lived in seclusion and were highly xenophobic.
Even Aunt Dorothy did not have a way to break the spell. Finding the 'key' was the only way to enter the real space.
However, the miscellaneous furnishings, equipment, tables, chairs, and any piece of waste paper in the interaction station could be the key. We were faced with thousands of choices!
One by one, they could be checked until next year.
Aunt Dorothy tried to find the real key by observing the magic waves, but the 'broadcast station' we were in was originally a product of witchcraft. There were magic waves everywhere, so this method failed.
"The key must be something irreplaceable and hard to lose. Only the spellcaster could enter the folded space. Others, even those who obtained the spellcaster's consent, must use the key to enter. Therefore, the key is not a piece of trash that could be casually thrown away or a fragile item that could be easily damaged."
At Aunt Dorothy's suggestion, we focused on checking some things that met the requirements, such as the slightly old decorative paintings hanging on the wall or the computer on the desk. Even so, we still have a wide range of choices. Before we knew it, the sun was already high in the sky.
The hostages had been missing for more than twenty-four hours since last night. Their safety was about to be compromised.
After another antique vase was proven to be ordinary, I couldn't help but feel a little discouraged. In a moment of carelessness, I actually 'ate' the vase.
For this, Aunt Eve reprimanded me severely. "You are on a mission, Yarin. The first thing you need to do is to control your emotions and stay rational. You have to realize that nothing will go as smoothly as we think. You will start to get discouraged when you encounter a little difficulty. This kind of delicate mentality must not be brought into the mission."
She had never spoken to me so seriously before. At this moment, I suddenly realized the change in my identity.
When I thought I was qualified for my new identity, I still couldn't help but think of myself as the 'prince' with someone to accommodate and take care of everything.
I felt ashamed and apologized loudly, "Yes, I have realized my mistake. I'm sorry, ma'am. I'll adjust my mentality immediately."
Aunt Eve transferred me to the search team and asked me to look for clues left by the Lily of the Valley around the interaction station.
It had just snowed the day before yesterday, and forests and shrubs surrounded the broadcast station. The white snow looked pleasing to the eye, but walking in it was irritating.
The warriors were all adult werewolves, and they all chose to transform into their wolf forms. Looking at their sharp claws and muscular bodies, I was envious.
I was just a bean sprout with thin limbs. When I encountered obstacles, I would either rush over in a hurry or 'eat' the obstacles.
Ever since I got the runes carved onto me, I'd been very 'hungry' and could 'eat' things at any time. Along the way, I 'ate' a lot of dead branches and crushed stones. I could feel the tiny energy quietly gathering in my body like sand.
After searching a radius of three kilometers, we found nothing. It was already noon.
The team leader decided to bring us closer to the humans to continue searching. It was also here that I discovered something strange.
It was an ordinary rock, but after I 'ate' it, I could feel the surging power surging into my body. It was different from the previous small grains of sand that were inconspicuous. This bite was like eating a spoonful of high-calorie butter cake. It was so 'delicious' that it was sickening.
I immediately stopped 'eating' and turned over the stone that was half my height to examine it carefully. Finally, I found a small crack at the bottom.
After prying open the crack, the stone was split into two halves. Each side of the stone was engraved with some complicated symbols. When they were put together, it looked like a magic array.
I immediately reported this discovery to the team leader. This important discovery naturally attracted attention. When the photo was returned to the headquarters, Aunt Dorothy thought it was an evil ritual array.
"Some symbols on it are typical ancient runes that 'communicate' with demons. However, this array is not complete. The runes are incomplete. It's very likely that the caster dismantled the array and arranged it into a larger evil sacrifice union."
We quickly found four similar stones according to the reference range she provided. When
they were put together, they formed a complete evil ritual formation.
The stone was transported back to the station for Aunt Dorothy and the other werewolf grandmasters to study. Strangely, the stone used as the carrier unexpectedly had no traces. Nothing was on it, not the evil power nor the blood of the sacrifice.
It was as if this array had never taken effect.
