Chapter 140 Danger Lurks Ahead (3)
Chapter 140 Danger Lurks Ahead (3)
After standing outside of Ronald's room trying to easedrop into the room for 10 minutes straight, Iris decided to call it quits and couldn't help but droop her shoulders down in dejection.
Even though she knew that Luna had created an array that would prevent outsiders from eavesdropping to begin with, Iris didn't expect that the array would be this complex to bypass into.
Unfortunately, she couldn't even successfully crack through the first layer of the array without being detected by it.
Just as she slumped against the walls next to Ronald's doors however, Iris sensed that the array had suddenly disappeared, and soon after that, Luna came out of the room.
So Iris slightly bowed to Luna, not out of respect, but to avoid revealing to Ronald her true lack of regard for Luna.
As Luna was just about to walk past her however, Luna whispered something to her ears that made her form a fist with her hands.
"This is the only mistake I'll ever give you this time. Prioritize something else over Ronald's wellbeing again, and I won't be as forgiving next time. Also, go do something about the old man down in the basement."
Luna then walked by Iris, and almost immediately afterwards, Ronald had also came out of his room.
"Wait Luna, let me walk you back to your car." Ronald offered.
"It's fine Ronald, my car is parked behind your mansion, so nobody's going to see me. Thank you for the offer though, and have fun at the capital city." Luna smiled brightly at Ronald and waved goodbye before going downstairs.
"Okay, bye Luna, love you." Ronald waved back and didn't stop waving until Luna was fully out of his sights.
Then once Luna was gone, Ronald subconciously turned to Iris in utter shock.
"What the hell was that all about just now?" Ronald spoke in both a rather angry and panicked tone.
"I'm sorry Young Master, but could you elaborate a bit more?" Iris wasn't so sure why Ronald started freaking out all of a sudden after Luna left and replied after quickly calming down.
"You know! The weird looking symbols she had just drawn on my watch using her blo... ah, nevermind. Forget what I said just now." Realizing that Iris didn't know about anything that had actually transpired in the room just now, Ronald quickly stopped himself from ranting on any longer by waving his hand dismissively and then went into thought.
Truthfully, he was extremely lost right now.
Forget about the fact that Luna had kissed him and asked him an extremely odd question just now, what the hell did Luna just do to his watch?
From what he's seen, Luna had seemingly smeered her own blood onto his watch, drew a couple of weird looking pictures on it, and then somehow made the blood vanish afterwards, as if it was never even there to begin with.
Like seriously, what the hell kind of voodoo magic was that?
And how come he doesn't even know anything remotely about it?
In fact, for the last two days now, he had encountered three unfamiliar cultivation techniques from these heroines that he couldn't comprehend at all despite the extensive knowledge of cultivation he had obtained from the system.
And Ronald felt that he needed to know what those cultivation techniques did as soon as possible.
Now of course, if a problem like this had arisen in his previous life, the first thing Ronald would've immediately done was consult the system for an answer.
But considering that this shitty system in this life has been almost completely unreliable when it comes to anything related with the heroines, and Ronald couldn't just straight up ask any of the heroines for a multitude of reasons either, one being that they probably wouldn't give him a straight answer anyways, Ronald needed an alternative.
'But what?'
While Ronald was looking down at the floor pondering over what to do however...
"Young Master, I can tell you what she did to the watch if you still want to know." Iris offered.
Although Ronald didn't fully finish his sentence for some reason, considering that he had mentioned about Luna drawing some weird symbols on his watch, coupled with the fact that Luna's hand wasn't bleeding anymore after she had exited out of Ronald's room, Iris still had a good guess as to what technique Luna used on his watch.
And if it is indeed the martial arts technique that Iris suspects it to be, then she wouldn't mind telling Ronald all about it.
"Wait, really?" Ronald slowly raised his head back up and looked at Iris in a surprised manner.
"Yes, Young Master, but I'll need to physically examine the watch in order to determine the specific function Luna added onto it." Iris answered truthfully.
"Okay then, catch." Ronald took off his watch and tossed it to Iris.
Immediately afterwards, Iris rubbed the watch and felt a very tiny bump, one that most people and even cultivators wouldn't be able to feel, on the face of the watch.
So she continued repeatedly rubbing the front of the watch back and forth, feeling more bumps in the process until she could clearly make out the symbols that Luna had drawn.
When she had fully made out that the symbol was a small dragon coiled around a lotus flower however, she casted a perplexed look on her face.
"Something wrong?" Ronald saw the confused look and questioned.
"No, Young Master, it's just that... I don't get it. Why did she decide to draw a dragon lotus symbol out of all things?" Iris continued to stare at the watch as she tried to understand why.
"A dragon lotus, huh. Sounds pretty cool, what does it do?" Ronald said curiously.
"Well Young Master, there's a forgotten folklore that goes like this: Long ago in ancient China, there used to be a sacred lake hidden deep within the mountains called the Xianhu lake, where very unique and rare lotus flowers of all kinds grew harmoniously with one another. The lake and the lotuses around the lake made the scenery around them so beautiful that not even the animals that came across the lake dared get near the lake as not to destroy its beauty and preserve its serenity..."
Iris's tone then suddenly shifted into a more serious and grim one as she continued.
"However, one day, a group of humans suddenly came across this lake as well. Now, as you might have guessed it, Young Master, unlike all of the other animals who respected the lake's boundaries and only admired it from afar, the humans had no regards for the lake whatsoever and simply saw these unique lotus flowers as an opportunity for them to become rich.
So over the next couple of months, these humans plucked all of the lotuses one by one, trashing the lake in the process, until only one lotus flower remained.
Now, apparently this last lotus flower was the most delicate and radiant of them all, and it supposedly shined so radiantly that even the greedy humans hesitated to pluck it out as they were worried that they would ruin the purity of it...
But still, their greed ended up getting the better of them, and they all unanimously decided to pluck it out.
Just as they were about to pluck it out however, the heavens, that had been watching in sorrow the entire time, decided that enough was enough, and so they summoned a celestial dragon to decend down upon the mortal realm and protect the last remaining lotus flower.
The dragon did as it was told to do, and after it had slaughted all of the greedy humans that dared tried to touch the lotus flower, it coiled its body around the lotus flower in order to shield and hide the flower's pure and beautiful blossoms from any future humans who might want to harm it for the rest of eternality." Iris finally finished speaking and took a deep breath to regain her breath back.
"Uh... well that's a pretty interesting story and all, but what's it got to do with my question at all?" Although Ronald was actually quite interested in Chinese folktales such as this one, considering that it was stated in the novel that the original Ronald actually hated traditonal Chinese folktales and mythologies in general since he thought that it was too unrealistic, Ronald responded back in an contemptuous tone.
"My apologies, Young Master. I thought I heard from my pre- somewhere that you were into Chinese folktales and mythologies and so I just wanted to share to you the origins of the dragon lotus symbol. It won't happen again." Iris bowed apologetically before finally explaining, "In short, the dragon lotus symbol is suppose to make the user appear more powerful in front of their enemies."
"Hm, I see now... so basically if I leave this watch on my hand, I look like someone who can fight extremely well, like a martial artist, right?" Even though Ronald appeared to look happy and carefree on the outside as he spoke, he was actually quite upset right now.
After all, why would he want to appear strong whatsoever?
The whole point of him acting dumb and doing foolish things outside of the plot in this shitty novel world was so that he could actually fit his original persona of being a dumb rich-second generation after all!
'Oh well, I'll just go throw out this watch later or something like that.'
"Correct, but you won't actually be stronger though, and it'll only appear that way for the people who wants to harm you, Young Master, and not for anyone else..." Iris paused for a brief second to admire the happy look on Ronald's face before continuing.
"Which is why I'm very confused as to why she chose a dragon lotus of all things when she could've chosen a more defensive symbol for you to begin with, Young Master. The dragon lotus symbol only works well when the user of the symbol has a lot of enemies after all, and I'm sure that the Young Master doesn't have..." Just before Iris could finish her sentence however, she suddenly recalled what Luna had told her earlier about getting rid of an old man down in the basement, and her expression immediately darkened.
"Forgive my abruptness, Young Master, but there's something I need to check on something really quick. Please give me a moment." Iris quickly bowed deeply and respectfully at Ronald.
Then without wasting a single second longer, Iris immediately rushed downstairs and into the basement, where she then saw...
"Lai Ho?"
