“Let’s get acquainted with these elders later,” Ling Ruonan said, holding Luo Ziling’s hand and offering a slight smile to the Ling Family elders. She then added, “Let Ziling check on the old master’s health first, to see the result of the treatment just now.”

All those present knew that Luo Ziling had just treated the old master.

During the treatment, the old master had fallen asleep, and upon waking up, he appeared much more spirited than before, which surprised many people.

Most people were happy, for the old master’s health was their greatest concern. Ling Jinhua was the Pillar of the Ling Family and an important figure in Huaxia. His well-being mattered to many, and his illness had caused widespread anxiety, especially among the senior members of the Ling Family; the old master’s improvement and renewed vigor had brought them all relief.

Luo Ziling nodded politely to the group of Ling Family elders gathered in the room, still wearing a smile, before making his way through the path they had cleared for him to Ling Jinhua’s bedside, where he took a seat on a stool.

“Great Grandfather,” Luo Ziling approached the bed and asked with a smile, “How do you feel now? Do you feel like the chill in your body has greatly decreased and you’re feeling warmer overall?”

“Indeed, after sleeping, I feel refreshed and clear-headed,” Ling Jinhua chuckled, his voice sounding more robust than before the treatment, “It seems the Luo Family’s medical expertise is indeed well-deserved. I’ve experienced it once again.”

“Great Grandfather, let me take your pulse,” said Luo Ziling, reaching out to Ling Jinhua.

“Alright,” Ling Jinhua agreed promptly, extending his hand to Luo Ziling.

After taking Ling Jinhua’s pulse for a moment, Luo Ziling said, “The acupuncture had a certain effect. Now please take a pill personally prepared by my grandfather.”

Luo Ziling spoke and took several small bags containing medicine from his pocket, selected the needed medication, poured out one pill, and handed it to Ling Jinhua.

“Grandfather, you can’t take this medicine,” a middle-aged man around forty years old shouted loudly, “We don’t know what’s in it, whether it’s poisonous or not, you absolutely mustn’t take it.”

Another middle-aged man of a similar age also spoke up in support, “Grandfather, Zhengmin is right. This is homemade medicine, not clinically verified. We don’t know the level of toxicity, and it would be dangerous to take it rashly; any adverse reaction could be troublesome.”

“Dad, Zhengping and Zhengmin make sense,” an elderly woman with graying hair, appearing to be about the same age as Luo Ziling’s grandmother, stood up and expressed a similar opinion to the two men, “The toxicity and sanitary conditions of homemade medicine are unknown, so you shouldn’t take it lightly. If something goes wrong, it could be a big problem.”

Luo Ziling, not expecting someone to outright object, was taken aback and his face showed embarrassment.

Of course, he was also very angry.

Standing by, Ling Ruonan was equally surprised by this turn of events. Not knowing what to say, she finally asked Luo Ziling in a low voice, “Ling’er, what kind of medicine is this?”

“Don’t worry, everyone relax,” when Luo Ziling didn’t know how to explain, Ling Jinhua took the white pill from Luo Ziling’s hand, and then instructed Ling Ruonan to pour him a glass of water, “Nannan, pour Grandpa a glass of water. I’ve taken this medicine before; it was Sir Luo who gave it to me. He cherished it a great deal at that time and gave me only four pills. This medicine is quite miraculous, not something money can buy.”

Ling Jinhua proactively asked Luo Ziling for the bag of medicine: “Could you give this whole bag of medicine to my old man?”

Luo Ziling breathed a sigh of relief, but he still shook his head, “Great Grandfather, I can’t give you the medicine, for fear you might take it indiscriminately. I have to administer it based on your body’s condition after acupuncture, which means, the dosage each time must be tailored to your health, neither too much nor too little. I can assure you that after my acupuncture treatment coupled with the medication, by the time harsh winter arrives, Great Grandfather’s health will be much stronger.”

By actively asking for the medicine, Ling Jinhua showed his recognition for Luo Ziling’s medical skills and the trust he had in the medicine he provided. The few people who had just spoken out to stop him immediately held their tongues wisely and said no more.

They also reined in their emotions well, and their gazes towards Luo Ziling showed nothing unusual.

The words and actions of Ling Jinhua also put Ling Ruonan, who had been quite worried, at ease.

It seemed that Ling Jinhua still trusted Luo Ziling’s medical skills and viewed this descendant, ostracized by the Ling Family, with different eyes.

Ling Ruonan’s biggest concern was that the highly respected elders of the Ling Family might look down on Luo Ziling. If Ling Jinhua, Ling Mingrui, and Ling Mingqing had a poor opinion of Luo Ziling, then his situation would be quite difficult.

Since these elders had a good impression of Luo Ziling and trusted him a great deal, even if others had prejudices against him, Ling Ruonan was not worried.

The ones who had just spoken out to stop the proceedings were Ling Jinhua’s daughter and Ling Mingrui’s sister Ling Minglan, as well as Ling Ruonan’s own elder brother Ling Zhengping, and cousin Ling Zhengmin. Ling Zhengmin was Ling Qiqing’s youngest son, he also had an elder brother named Ling Zhengjun, who was also standing in the room, but had remained silent until now.

Ling Qiqing had not arrived yet.

After Ling Ruonan brought the tea, Ling Jinhua took the pill Luo Ziling gave him in front of everyone in the room and swallowed it.

As Ling Jinhua took the pill, Ling Ruonan asked Luo Ziling, “Ling’er, what ingredients are in this medicine?”

“It contains Tianshan Saussurea we collected ourselves, among many other precious medicinal materials; it is a highly nourishing medicine. But since Great Grandfather is somewhat frail, he must not take too much, one pill every three days or so is about right. If all goes well, this evening, Great Grandfather’s spirit should be much improved,” Luo Ziling knew that Ling Ruonan’s question was on behalf of everyone present, so he made sure to answer it in detail.

After answering Ling Ruonan’s question, he gave another instruction to Ling Jinhua, “Great Grandfather, make sure you get to bed early tonight. It would be best to get up later tomorrow as well, to ensure you get ample sleep. If all goes as expected, tonight you should be able to sleep for at least eight hours.”

“If I can really sleep that long, that would be wonderful,” Ling Jinhua laughed, then instructed the others, “Alright, all of you leave. Nannan and Ziling stay, I want to have a word with you two alone.”

Ling Jinhua’s request for Ling Ruonan and Luo Ziling to stay behind and speak with him privately changed many faces, especially Ling Zhengping and his several cousins. They understood this was a special favor Ling Jinhua was showing to Ling Ruonan and Luo Ziling, mother and son.
