Chapter 2907 Start of the Search
Hours later, Minos and his group arrived at their initial point of investigation, having traveled a long way from the Seraphim Dimension to this planet possibly visited by Forfex.
The moment Devdar's pendant lost its effects and their surroundings stopped glowing, the four humans and two aliens saw their surroundings from where they had arrived. Segiel immediately put one of her hands on a weapon in her clothes and contorted her face into a pessimistic expression.
"You need to get better about the places we go," said the dark blue-haired woman as she glanced sideways at Minos and then looked to the three dozen creatures surrounding them at that arrival point.
A battalion was surrounding the area where their sphere of light had acted for a few moments until their arrival had ended, having disturbed enough of the surroundings to make everyone in the vicinity worry about what was going on.
From the view on the horizon, they were near an alien city, or rather, local natives with anatomies totally different from their own, and of course, unique cultures and ways of seeing the universe.
Minos smiled bitterly at his fourth wife's comment, noticing that this really was a problem. 'Devdar's device is superb, but it's too powerful... Lucky for us, we haven't tried visiting places on a higher level yet!
Thinking about it while considering the average power of the individuals around his group-mid-level and low-level Supremes, mostly-Minos wondered if that wasn't one of the artifact's purposes.
"This was made by a level 128 True Celestial. Perhaps he wasn't so interested in protecting the place where he or his envoys were going to arrive! Minos looked at the pendant that was with him, now sealed, so that no one who saw it would think it had any value. 'Were you made to show your user superiority?"
Minos didn't know if this would help or hinder him on his journey, but judging that he was already in that situation and had no more time to waste, he embraced whatever came next. Looking at the strongest one at the level of the group of locals looking fearfully at his group, he slowly raised one of his hands and said, "You. Guide us. As long as you're useful, I'll pay your weight in resources."
Minos said it in the universal language, a kind of language used by travelers and high-level experts throughout much of the universe. Wherever there were intergalactic transportation services, there were ways of learning different and useful languages, which was of course a guarantee that different peoples could understand each other without too much difficulty.
The situation was different with worlds of a low Spiritual and technological level.
Fortunately, Minos had no interest in exploring new worlds.
All the armed natives, fearfully looking in the direction from which they had thought moments ago the end of their world would come, alternated their eyes between Minos and the one he had indicated. Most of them understood not only Minos' words but also his intentions, but they remained where they were, some trembling, others standing firm, but with very bad expressions.
Minos and his companions were not used to the appearances of the beings of this world, but recognizing patterns was easy for experienced experts like them. They could all tell that the locals were not in a good mood and his friendly talk had not been enough to break the bad atmosphere of this first meeting.
The one Minos pointed out, a four-meter-tall, six-legged being, like an arachnid but with a torso similar to that of a giant, seemed to gather courage with his breathing and finally said something in response, "Who are you? What do you want here?"
How this level 121 local spoke betrayed his lack of practice in speaking the universal language, but it wasn't difficult to understand for the others, either newly arrived or in a defensive position in this area of open fields overlooking the nearby city. Abby said, "We're from really far away from where you live. We're after our friend. He may have passed or is still in this world. Help us find traces of him and we'll reward you with resources and our departure."
The last part of Abby's words were even more tempting than the vague promise of resources.
The departure of a group so powerful in level, but also capable of doing what had caught the attention of all those local experts there was the best payment for anything. In one swift decision, this individual at the head of the siege relaxed a little, causing his fellow locals to react in a similar way.
"All right!" He said in a determined shout. "I'll accompany you. All I ask is that you allow us to act on your behalf while you're here."
Ruth narrowed her eyes, seeing the man's clever move. He didn't want to set himself up as a subordinate to the newcomers. But in the dark about their actual intentions, this man wanted a chance to intervene and act for the betterment of his world.
Minos saw no problem and after nodding his head, he walked ahead of his group, towards the strongest of these locals. "Our friend must not be as powerful as we are, so I find it difficult that any of you remember him if you've had the chance to meet him."
"Who is this person? Has he done something wrong?" The level 121 Supreme asked in doubt, looking at Minos with genuine curiosity.
While the others cleared the way, letting these newcomers walk with only their temporary representative, Minos told what he was prepared to say.
"His name is Forfex. He and I have known each other for a long time, so long that I think of him as a brother. Centuries ago, I saw him for the last time and thought he would die after encountering a problem that was theoretically impossible to survive. But years ago, I discovered he had done the impossible and was still alive. Now I'm looking for him to pay for what he left me and to talk about certain issues."
The local felt less suspicious, sensing sincerity in Minos' words. "How do you know he came to my world? Did he tell you? Or have you been here before?"
Minos shook his head and continued his initial conversation with this local while his companions looked out over the magical landscape of this great world. "No, our relationship was more business than casual. We rarely talked about where we went, even though we were friends... We had more immediate problems at the time.
It was later, when I completed his 'last' wish, that I discovered the planets he had planned to pass through before the event that made me believe he had died. Anyway, I have information that assures me that he returned to one of the worlds he passed through before that event, so that's the only clue I have as to how to reach his current position."
After saying this, Minos touched one of the man's shoulders, instantly making him see a set of audio, visual, and spiritual information about Forfex.
"That's the man I'm looking for. As long as you help me find something about him that can give me a direction, I'll pay my promise from earlier.""
