Chapter 825 Kid in trouble
Chapter 825 Kid in trouble
Chapter 825 Kid in trouble
(Real World, Captain Kid's Office)
Captain Kid was not happy with Leo's post on the forums, as it stirred a pot within the common players that the Unity Government, who was paying for the transport of Earthlings, did not wish to be stirred.
Although Kid took the post down a mere 60 minutes after it went live, the damage had already been done.
Millions had already read the warning, and it was shared, reshared, and endlessly dissected across every forum, chat room, and player community in Terra Nova Online.
The initial responses varied wildly. Some dismissed Leo's warning as fear mongering, calling him a liar and an attention-seeker, but others took his words far more seriously.
And then there were those who did more than just take it seriously.
They demanded answers.
Within hours of the post going live, waves of players flooded the official game forums, system feedback channels, and even the Arc Ship's internal communication platforms.
"What are the Devs hiding from us?"
"Is it true that our future jobs are already decided based on our sector rank?"
"Why are we only hearing about this now? Shouldn't we have been informed?"
The pressure mounted rapidly, growing too large to ignore, and soon, Captain Kid found himself at the center of a brewing crisis.
His holo-screen was flooded with notification pings, flashing red alerts from his moderation team, relaying the same relentless reports.
The settlers were angry.
They were questioning the system, demanding clarity, asking for an official statement from the game developers to address the matter.
Kid cursed under his breath.
Issuing a clarification statement would only make things worse. If he denied Leo's words, people would see it as a cover-up and dig even deeper.
If he admitted the truth, it would spark even more chaos.
There was no winning move here.
And much to his growing dismay, it seemed that today's incident had already been reported to the Unity Government.
His communicator buzzed violently, and with a sinking feeling in his gut, Captain Kid swiped to accept the incoming call….
"KID YOU MORON—" The male voice on the other side cursed the second the connection was made, as Kid pushed the screen away from his ear.
"What the hell is going on over there?" The voice asked, as Kid did not need to see the screen to know who it was.
Administrator Ryker.
The Unity Government's direct overseer for this batch of the Arc Ship, and Kid's point of contact for this batch of travellers.
"Administrator, I can explain—" Kid began, however, before he could get another word out, the administrator went on a rant.
"You can explain? You can explain why millions of settlers already know information they were not supposed to hear for months after landing? You can explain how we now have a logistical nightmare on our hands because of one goddamn forum post?!" Ryker roared, as Kid winced, running a hand through his hair.
This was bad.
Very, very bad.
When the Arc Ship was launched, the Unity Government had planned out every step of the settlement process with careful precision.
The moment the settlers landed on Terra Nova, they were to be swiftly sorted—recruiters from the major organizations would approach the highest-ranked players first, absorbing them into lucrative positions of power, while those in lower sectors would be funneled into carefully crafted, low-level jobs.
On paper, they would be promised rapid promotions.
In reality, they would be locked into a system where power was monopolized by the elite, ensuring that the strongest controlled the flow of resources while the rest remained desperately chasing an illusion of progress.
The Unity Government hadn't planned for them to find out the truth until after they were already settled, by which time they would have been too deep into the system to resist.
But thanks to Leo Skyshard…
That plan was now in shambles.
And the Unity Government was furious.
"This debacle has cost us millions of mana points in projected losses," Ryker continued, his voice cold. "Your moderation team was supposed to control the narrative. Your security was supposed to suppress dissent. Instead, we are now seeing riots in the lower districts, and recruitment officers from multiple corporations here on Planet Terra Nova are scrambling to contain the fallout."
Kid gritted his teeth. "Sir, we—"
Ryker cut him off.
"I don't want excuses, Captain. I want a solution."
Kid exhaled slowly, trying to think. There was no good way out of this. Damage control was impossible now that the truth had been exposed. Even if they purged every last forum post, even if they sent out counter-messaging to discredit Leo, the seed of doubt had already been planted in the minds of millions.
Which meant that the only thing left to do…
Was punish the one responsible.
"We want Leo Skyshard." Ryker demanded, as Kid's breath stilled.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me," Ryker's voice was cold and final.
"The Unity Government has decided that upon landing, Leo Skyshard is to be detained as a criminal for the disruption he has caused."
Kid felt his stomach twist into knots.
They wanted to hand Leo over.
They wanted to make an example out of him—likely charge him with economic sabotage, sedition, or some other bullshit excuse to justify imprisoning him and silencing him for good.
If Kid had been anyone else, he would have considered it.
After all, Leo was a thorn in his side too. The bastard was always making his job harder, constantly throwing wrenches into things.
And yet—
He couldn't do it.
Not just because Leo was TheBoss, not just because handing him over would cause riots amongst the Earthlings, but because Kid knew that if he did this, his own future with the Mu Clan would be dead on arrival.
Leo was still his last remaining leverage.
If he handed him over now, he would be nothing to the Mu Clan and his carefully laid plans of securing a cushy position post-settlement would vanish in an instant.
And that wasn't something Kid was willing to gamble away.
"I understand sir. It will be handled. We will ban Leo Skyshard from the game starting today, and we will also put him under house arrest.
He will be handed over to you in chains upon landing" Kid promised, as he lied through his teeth to save his skin.
"Do that. And do your best to fix this mess, or we will find a way to detain and arrest you as well–" Ryker threatened as he cut the call.
