Chapter 197 A King Always Wins.

Chapter 197 A King Always Wins.

[Part 7/12 of today's Mass release! Here you go fellas! Big Shout-out to Dirtydew!]

Hugo stormed into the school gymnasium like a man on the edge of greatness or despair—or rather, a man who had been through too much in one day and needed a serious win.

Dressed in an all black hoodie, baseball cap, sweatpants, and sneakers, he looked like someone either planning a heist or trying to avoid taxes.

His hoodie was pulled low over his face like he was hiding from the government.

And, honestly, he kind of was—except in this case, the "government" was Loli, and she had already ruined his life once today.

Thus government was too harsh on the poor masses! The populace couldn't exercise their rights!

His mood? Absolutely destroyed.

Because what happened earlier that day had left a deep wound in his heart. Not a real wound—no, that would heal.

This was the kind of wound that made a man question his life choices. Loli had blocked his escape, ruined his golden opportunity, and now Erica probably thought he was some hesitant rookie instead of the certified ladies' man he truly was.

All because of that evil, little gremlin, Loli.

Hugo clenched his fists. Unforgivable.

But he forced himself to focus. He would put the morning's failure at the back of his mind.

Tonight, he had one goal.

See Lily.

Feel better.

Get a win.

Hugo sighed. This wasn't how a man of his caliber should be feeling.

Just as he was about to shake it off and focus on why he came here—to see Lily and maybe lift his mood—a sudden sense of danger prickled the back of his neck.

Something was coming. Fast. From the right!

For one glorious moment, his subconscious urged him to dodge. To move. To save himself.

But his conscious brain was still drowning in self-pity, so instead of reacting like a smart person—

BAM!

A volleyball SMACKED into the side of his head with the force of an angry god.

Hugo saw heaven.

Then hell. Experience more content on My Virtual Library Empire

Then the gym floor rushing up to meet him.

His vision blurred. His body tilted. He stumbled back like a man who had just lost all of his life savings in one bad bet.

But he didn't fall. No, he refused to fall. He was a man. A warrior. A survivor.

Because if he fell now, it wouldn't just be his body hitting the ground. It would be his pride.

"Who in the unholy depths of this gym just tried to SEND ME TO THE AFTERLIFE?! IS IT A COMPETITOR?! DID HE GET A VOLLEYBALL SNIPER TO FINISH THE JOB?!"

Just as his inner rage reached its peak, he heard a small gasp. Then, a smooth, gentle, feminine voice.

He was quite familiar with that voice. Very familiar, in fact.

"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?"

Hugo was about to unleash his wrath, but then he saw who was running toward him.

And suddenly, he forgot how to be angry. His anger deflated like a balloon in a smash or pass show.

It was Lily. And she was stunning.

She was running straight at him, wearing dazzlingly tight, amazingly short volleyball shorts and a sleeveless top that showed off her toned, athletic figure.

Her toned, athletic legs moved quickly, her long hair tied up in a high ponytail, and her face, as usual, looked effortlessly stunning.

She looked like a dream.

For a solid second, Hugo completely forgot that he just got smacked in the face by a flying ball.

"Okay. Maybe this was worth it."

Then, she got even closer.

She was smiling now, her gorgeous eyes filled with warmth, concern, and something else—something dangerous. Dangerously intense...

Hugo forgot about the volleyball.

He forgot about the pain.

He forgot about the betrayal of earlier that day.

All that mattered was that a goddess was running straight at him.

And then—Hugo's brain did the most natural thing possible. He spread his arms. Because, obviously, this was a hug moment.

It was basic human logic. Sanchez had hammered it into his brain with a taser!

She had hit him with a volleyball (probably by accident), she was running toward him looking absolutely divine, and now, she was going to hug him.

It made perfect sense. Go ask the romcom directors...

And just when he thought his hug reward was coming—

BOOM.

She slammed into his chest. And—

Kissed him.

…Wait.

For one second, Hugo's brain short circuited. This was not in the script. She was supposed to hug him, maybe apologize, maybe say something cute.

But this?

This was so much better. He could get used to this. Afterall, she had said she loved him!

By the time his mind rebooted, Lily's soft, warm lips were already pressed against his, her arms locked tightly around his neck, and her body was melted against his like she never wanted to let go.

And in that exact moment—

Every bad thing that happened today disappeared.

Loli blocking his bathroom rendezvous?

Gone.

Erica's teasing texts?

Irrelevant.

That volleyball to the head?

Worth it.

Hugo's arms wrapped around her, and his hands instinctively slid down her back before grabbing onto something round, firm, and wonderful.

Her gym butt. It felt like grabbing a handful of an angel's wings. Absolutely comforting...

"I could never, in my entire life, get tired of this gym butt."

Lily pressed even closer, her lips moving against his in a way that sent a rush of heat straight through him.

And just like that, Hugo knew one thing for sure. He was officially winning again.

He kissed her back with the same intensity.

Minutes passed before they finally broke apart. Lily wrapped her arms tightly around him, resting her head against his chest.

"I missed you so much," she whispered, her voice soft and warm.

Hugo tilted his head back, staring at the ceiling, soaking in his victory.

'This. This right here. This is why I endure the suffering. This is why I fight. Because in the end—'

A king always wins.
