Chapter 814: Chapter 809 Is this a bug? Part 2_1

In the event that they escaped to the nearby Administrative Star’s region, although there were strict defense systems in place, with such monsters, it wouldn’t matter much if their attack power was weak. However, should their attack power be immense, perhaps warships wouldn’t fear, but what about ordinary civilian ships, regular transport vessels, space liners, and merchant ships? These didn’t possess strong defensive or offensive capabilities.

Therefore, Jeremiah Jenkins had to figure this out. The enemy fleet was not attacking, and although Finn Lewis couldn’t understand why, he roughly guessed they were likely probing for weaknesses. Finn did not take over command, for he wished to observe how Keller directed the Insect Species in battle.

Currently, Keller was the Queen under Finn with the highest intellectual capacity. Although the other hatched Queens also possessed intelligence, oddly enough, the second hatched Queen was only half the size of Keller and seemed to have abilities not as formidable as hers.

The intelligence was sound, but the physical prowess not as strong as Keller’s, which was curious. However, Finn understood that this undoubtedly established Keller’s leadership position. When Keller left the Resource Galaxy where Leviathan was hatched, leaving behind a Queen, Keller moved to a new Resource Galaxy.

After Keller’s departure, the Queen that remained began to grow, its size nearly matching Keller’s. Although it was still within Keller’s leadership domain, Finn understood why. What Finn couldn’t grasp was what, exactly, was controlling them.

This was certainly not self-control by Keller and her kind, despite being Insect Species and having a strict hierarchical structure. Likewise, nearly all Insect Species individuals existed to evolve into higher beings. So, for the sake of evolution, they would not fear becoming more powerful.

There was only one explanation, then: it was the control within the genes of the Insect Species. If this was indeed the case, this species could only be described as formidable!

Finn could hardly imagine how many years of evolution it had taken to birth such a species. In a sense, the genetic evolution of the Insect Species could almost be described as perfect.

Of course, the more perfect for Finn, the better. At the moment, the opposing fleet had not attacked, and neither had Keller taken the initiative. Instead, apart from a few tens of thousands of corrupted fliers that had rushed towards the enemy fleet, the remaining ones were returning to Leviathan, and the kingworm was also making its way back to Leviathan.

However, the kingworm’s speed was slow. In the vastness of space, the kingworm’s pace could only be likened to a snail’s crawl. Finn knew through Leviathan that this was not the kingworm’s ultimate speed, yet even its maximum was not impressive. Finn was at a loss as to how Keller managed to disperse them across this star domain with such sluggish speeds.

“Your Highness, we’ve detected a portion of the bugs charging at us, while another part is heading towards that massive creature,” Davis reported.

“Hmm, maintain constant vigilance, start the engines, we’re moving out. Have all warships scan the target to determine what it really is,” Jeremiah immediately nodded, slightly relieved. It seemed that these bugs weren’t very formidable.

“Yes, Your Highness! Engaging spaceship engines. Target coordinates have been transmitted to all fleets. All ships maintain formation, distance 56 million kilometers. Increase speed gradually, approach will take half an hour,” relayed the warship pilot, swiftly conveying the orders to all the vessels.

Finn was beginning to see Keller in a new light. It was clear that Keller understood what the enemy was attempting. This was showing weakness to deceive the enemy! Finn had thought Keller would blindly command the bugs into a direct assault. Now it appeared that Keller was clearly baiting the enemy into engagement.

Because Finn was attached to Leviathan, he could feel that inside, Leviathan was feverishly incubating and producing Insect Eggs. Leviathan could simultaneously accommodate about 100 million hatched Insect Species units.

Although this number was not fixed, because the size of Insect Species units varied. Swift Beasts were only slightly larger than dogs on Earth, and billions of such creatures could fit inside. If it were Insect Species’ Thunder Beasts, they were much larger; a single Thunder Beast was roughly the size of a building.

The size of the corrupted fliers was also not insignificant, along with other Insect Species units, like the Toxic Winged Dragon. Thus, the number was for a mixed-unit force; even just a mixed force was terrifying enough. What does one billion signify? Not to mention, Leviathan contained up to 150 billion Insect Eggs, and its spatial utilization was definitely far more efficient than human warships.

“Contact countdown initiated, Hammer Defense System scanning activated, collect data on the enemy,” as those tens of thousands of corrupted fliers neared the warship, Jeremiah became somewhat tense. When they had emerged from warp, these creatures had been obliterated by the defense cannons before they could react.

It was unknown how capable these creatures were in defense and attack. Considering their odd appearance, their mode of assault was also a mystery. It would be best if they were like ordinary beasts, rushing to rend and tear, but that was highly improbable. No matter their number, they would not fear.

Unfortunately, such was not to be the case. When those corrupted fliers were a few thousand kilometers away from the Hammer Defense System, it went into full activation. On the warship’s bridge, the three-dimensional holographic display system showed thousands of monsters spewing out a burst of bluish-green energy orbs from the orifices at their fronts.

“High-energy reaction detected; energy attack, dispatch a subset of Hammers to intercept,” the computer instantly analyzed all the attributes of the incoming attack.

Thousands of Hammers, in turn, surged out from the defense system, racing towards those energy orbs. With a “boom,” countless fires exploded in the vacuum of space. Being an energy attack, Jeremiah never imagined these orbs could destroy even a small Hammer.

Yet despite being prepared, his face grew grim, as those energy orbs were fast, and critically, after destroying a small Hammer, only part of the energy dissipated. The remaining energy orb, now reduced by about a third, continued charging towards the Hammer Defense System.

“Boom, boom,” the countless blasts continually erupted upon the defense system, yet they were effectively useless. The entire system merely rippled like small waves on the ocean before calming and resuming normal operation. However, the real problem was that the monsters had already begun another round of attacks.
