Chapter 736 Second thoughts
Chapter 736 Second thoughts
The next few days, the group waited to see what the magic people would do and after one week, they decided to accept their terms… that was convenient, but suspicious. They definitely were up to something...
"They are giving up on a lot of resources, even though they won't gain anything physical in return," Terra said.
"They know that we will have to stick to our word and we can't risk start another battle anytime soon," Seada said. "From my perspective, they might have the excuse to attack us alongside the dragons if we don't keep our promises. They might even negotiate with them to work together to crush us."
"... I guess you have a point," Terra said.
Rain wondered intensely, racking his brain in an attempt to comprehend the motivations behind the actions of the magic and beast people. He couldn't fathom why they required such an extended period or why they were willing to go to such lengths just to solidify the truce. However, despite his efforts, no clear understanding or explanation appeared in his mind.
"I have a bad feeling about this," Rain said.
"Me too, but Seadir just sent the message saying that some more of the sea folk are willing to fight with us by learning sound magic, that should increase our strength a fair bit," Seara said.
"I suppose…" Rain said while holding his chin.
The magic people had that person who made the necks of the dragons disappear and the beast people had the person that smashed the head of the dragons that approached their Capital… Despite that, they felt that they needed even more power and preparation.
"They truly are preparing to fight the dragons… and they aren't messing around," Rain said. "I can only imagine that they know the true might of the dragons and they aren't planning to let a long war with them last for long."
"Do you think that this unknown ally of theirs know that much?" Terra asked.
"I can only imagine that it is the case…" Rain said and then he realized that he was starting to look too worried and that was making Terra and Seara nervous as well. "Well, we managed to make four giant crossbows for our defense posts near the borders and in the capital as well, so we are on the right path."
Rain attempted to show an air of confidence, but his wives easily discerned his true feelings; his attempt to appear resolute failed under their perceptive gaze. Gradually, Rain began acknowledging the accuracy of the shield's warnings. He reluctantly admitted to himself that, eventually, he might indeed require its assistance. Despite this realization, Rain was not ready to give up so readily.
"When it comes to increasing the raging Phoenix strength, the real problem is time, even if we can make things as efficiently as possible, there is always a limit of how much stronger we can become without help of tools," Rain thought. "I have to deal with that somehow."
It seemed that Rain didn't have any other choice… he had to be even more Spartan than before. Rain sent some letters to all the generals of the army, mainly his Dad, Jori, Reca, Asche and Liss… he told them that they had to make all of the veterans and recruits stop everything that they were doing and focusing on maxing out Limit Breaker and then Magic Boost.
Once they finish that, Rain will be able to come up with the next thing that they have to do.
"With that technique… they can probably make a lot of progress, but what is it called again?" Seara asked. "I can't believe that you named it that way…"
"Power Nap," Rain said. "You guys already learned that, right?" Rain asked. "You two should max out those techniques as well."
Rain had already gotten used to Power Nap… the name didn't make much sense when the skill was only useful when one could accumulate energy for several hours. In any case, the trick behind the technique was to just focus on that… single mindlessly. It was difficult to get used to it, but after some time, everyone got used to it.
All in all, the technique would make everyone rest more efficiently and have more energy daily to level up those skills.
"This should keep everyone busy for a while, but now I have to think of something for me," Rain thought. "I can't rely on the shield… I have the feeling that something worse than the dragons will come out of it if I can keep using it." Your adventure continues at My Virtual Library Empire
Rain's schedule was already packed in the first place, so it was hard to imagine what else he could do to improve it… he might as well sleep in the dungeons and kill all the monsters there. However, for the sake of efficiency, it was better to make the warriors work there. They will be able to level up and gain more points faster.
At this point in time, it seemed that Rain only had bad options… rely on the shield, and keep using dragons' blood to enhance his techniques, even though he could tell that they would affect him… give up on his morals. Even if he shows bad examples to his kids… it would be fine if he is able to protect them in one way or the other, right?
"The one acting proud is me?" Rain wondered. "What is the best option, keep sticking to my morals even if it costs my life to make my kids understand that some things can't be negotiated with? Or should I do anything necessary for the sake of our survival and make them understand that such things are a luxury that sometimes we can't afford?"
More than ever, Rain was in a difficult spot between two paths… he honestly didn't know what he should do. Still, he didn't want to believe that all of his hard work in the last two decades wasn't enough.
