Chapter 683 New squads
Rain's understanding of the sea dragons' technique made him think that it was similar if compared to the leviathan dragons. Both techniques involved storing and harnessing energy, which was then utilized during combat to enhance the dragon's abilities. However, there was a fundamental difference between the two approaches.
Unlike the leviathan dragons, who could grow to massive sizes and turn the energy into parameters, the sea dragons used their stored energy more efficiently. Rather than growing in size, they conserved their energy for the next combat encounter, making them more adaptable for shorter but intense bursts of power.
Initially, Rain thought this distinction would make it easier for him to learn the sea dragon technique, but he quickly realized that it was far more challenging than he had anticipated.
The complexities and nuances of this technique were not immediately evident, and Rain would have to put in a significant amount of effort and dedication to master it. The sea dragon technique posed its own unique set of challenges, like… he had to sleep to be able to use it.
"Man, I can't catch a break, huh?" Rain thought. "Well, I can't deny my naivety of thinking that learning this would be easy."
After thinking for a while, Rain realized that considering all the sin, Sloth was probably the one he had the least in common… he could be prideful, and get angry at the enemies, since he was a guy, it was natural that he was always horny, he ate a lot and enjoyed since he had to recover the nutrients he used.
He had pride on the things he accomplished and he also envied those who could live in that world without fearing losing what they had… but he wasn't slothful in any shape or form.
After thinking a bit more, Rain considered how sloth could affect magic and how it would work in more simple ways. First of all, he started with the obvious thing, how sloth magic in its purest forms would affect an individual?
Individuals who succumb to sloth may find that their magical abilities weaken or diminish over time. Their lack of effort and motivation might lead to a decline in their magical skills, making it challenging to perform even basic spells.
Sloth magic may deplete the energy or magical resources of others. Practitioners could drain the motivation, willpower, or magical power from their opponents, leaving them weakened and more susceptible to manipulation.
Slothful magic could control over the sleep patterns and dreams of the people affected and others, allowing them to induce deep, uninterrupted slumber or manipulate dreams for various purposes.
"Hmm… those effects sound a lot more like curses," Rain thought. "But at least they made me think on how the sea dragons can possibly control this technique… sloth and gluttony are somewhat similar, their techniques are essentially the same, but the final result is a bit different.
In essence, the sea dragons can probably maintain some level of awareness while they harness their power as they sleep."
Rain could tell that using that kind of technique would be near impossible since it went against his usual modus operandi. Besides, Rain couldn't do the same approach as he did with the other techniques since he couldn't waste time going slow… he knew that he had to take it slow with that technique, but at least he already knew how, by using Meditation Mastery.
That technique made one operate while keeping minimal awareness of one's surroundings, after all. So, it was a bit similar to the techniques of the sea dragons. With that in mind, Rain tried to use it daily while trying to keep himself even less aware of the surroundings and see what would happen.
As Rain waited for that training to show results, he received a message from his father. It seemed that fifty of the six hundred magic people living in their territory were willing to work with the raging Phoenix offering magic support.
"Well, I guess we are the ones who will have to train them," Rain said when he finished reading the letter. "There is no other option."
"I am not good at elemental magic and Seara can only use water magic," Terra said. "You will have a lot of work in your hands."
"It can't be helped," Rain said. "I have known all of the elements at least to the point that I want them to use their techniques. I also have some skills that will make them use their mana better, so I am the best option for the job."
The only real issue is that Rain didn't know how they would progress. They had the quicksand executioners with them, water snipers, bloodmancers, bone shooters… It was a diverse bunch if anything. Rain had some ideas on how to train them, but he will have to see things progressing before making any changes to adapt to them.
Three days later, Dana, Kei and Gila showed with the new recruits, but they soon left saying that they had work to do… it seemed that they reached an age where they found their older brother lame and it was more fun for them to hang out with the cool kids.
"Thank you for coming, everyone," Rain said. "I know that we promised you that you wouldn't have to fight, but we didn't expect that we would have to fight dragons either. Regardless, there is no point in worrying about that anymore. Let's work hard to obtain the strength to fight against those who threaten our peace, but first, let's eat something.
Your trip should have been tiring and no real work can be done on an empty belly."
Terra and Seara frowned since Rain was being strangely nice to them… maybe it was because they were from outside, but they felt that Rain had other reasons for that. They soon understood what Rain was thinking when he made them eat some soup and then everyone's intelligence and wisdom was increased temporarily…
