Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 636 Sneaking in

Chapter 636 Sneaking in

Rain viewed wealth not only in terms of monetary assets but also in broader terms. To him, true wealth included not just riches but also the power to protect, the knowledge to make better decisions, and the strength to face any challenges. He saw wealth as an accumulation of diverse resources that could be used to achieve his goals.

The concept of the "Greed Field" intrigued him, but he believed that obtaining this skill would be exceptionally difficult.

Rain's belief was based on his understanding of existing magical systems and his observations of the dragons. He noted that the Kraken dragons had the ability to draw power from certain valuable objects or artifacts. However, he was unaware of any instance where they could harness power directly from individuals. This made him skeptical about acquiring a skill like the "Greed Field" for himself.

"My family and friends are the most valuable thing that I have, after all," Rain thought while he was looking at his ice dragon forearm and shin guards.

Rain valued those… they protected him a bunch of time, but he couldn't see them as more than just tools, and they were probably the most valuable possessions that Rain had. Still, he couldn't give up that soon… Rain had to understand the basics of the dragons magic to use against them, and the best way was to learn them through the variations of the water dragons.

"What is greed, and how can that take shape in the form of magic?" Rain thought. "Greed is a very human emotion and characteristic associated with an excessive and insatiable desire for material wealth, possessions, power, or resources since people like to feel like they are doing better than others.

It is often depicted as a strong and selfish desire to accumulate more than one needs, often at the expense of others or without regard for the consequences of one's actions.

Greed is considered a negative trait in many cultures and moral frameworks because it can lead to unethical behavior, such as exploitation, dishonesty, and the pursuit of personal gain at the expense of others… I guess this would be the same level of greed of the dragons. Mine isn't on the same level by a large margin."

Rain believed that his desire to obtain the things that he wanted to be wealthy in the way that he saw a beneficial to him was strong, but the magic worked in a different way, more corrupt. Still, Rain decided to try if he could find something that he truly wanted… after one week, he didn't find anything that he truly wanted as he wanted to see his family and friends fine.

"Welp, I guess that is that," Rain thought. "Maybe I should look for someone greedy that could do that for me… although I joked a bunch of times of asking for Seadrei spear, I never thought that I would do everything to have it… Hmm, let's talk with him… I also need to resume to construction of the tunnel, after all."

Rain used his new tunnel and by controlling the air, he practically floated on the path without dealing with anything that slowed him down. It was like flying in space, all the energy was used as efficiently as possible since the tunnel was completely sealed at all times.

"Where did you come from?" Seadrei asked when Rain suddenly appeared in the throne room. "I wasn't informed about your approach."

"Haha, it is better if you don't know," Rain said. "Anyway, I have come to ask for a favor. I want to create a clear route to the humans territory, one where no one will be able to find, I will need to borrow your spear for that."

Seadrei sighed… at least Rain was saying that it was just temporary, but while he owed Rain a lot, he still was hoping that he wouldn't ask for that. His pride made him think that he shouldn't lent the spear, his pride as the emperor, but his pride was of someone who was rescued thanks to Rain's help, he felt like he had to help.

Explore new worlds at empire

"... I can't be seen without the spear, so I can only lend you at night," Seadrei said and then sighed once more. "I thought that you wouldn't need that when you have the shield."

"It is hard to control the shield when I use it for more than a few seconds," Rain said.

"I told you that we had the same trouble, and we still have when we use the spear for hours," Seadrei said. "It might be dangerous, but the more you use the shield, the more your mind will get stronger against its effects and your will will also make the relic easier to handle.

The trick is to think that you are worthy of using it and the relic will eventually judge those who are strong enough to be worthy of it."

That seemed odd, but Rain assumed that because the spear was used as a conductor of mana, the will of the use would affect the spear like that… perhaps in a few thousand of years, one sea emperor won't have to worry about a time limit when using the weapon.

"I see… by the way, I am having a bit of trouble learning a new technique," Rain said. "Do you think that you can give me some tips on how to become greedier? In a way that won't make me lose my mind?"

"You told me that you felt like you lost your mind sometimes out of anger and you felt the same thing when you used the shield," Seadrei said. "You should be able to understand how you can do that if you use the shield with those kinds of thoughts.

Over the years, the sea emperors assumed that the spear, when affecting our minds, played on our insecurities and made us mad at our own incompetence and weakness. The shield will probably affect you that way if you think that you are lacking in some aspect."
