527. The Ahk-Ton Crown!
527. The Ahk-Ton Crown!
527. The Ahk-Ton Crown!
The unfamiliar voice echoed, and the three people in the room immediately became flustered.
Adrianna instinctively pulled Amon behind her, her eyes shifting between suspicion and uncertainty as she stared at the mysterious figure, Alex, who had appeared in their home.
Even the usually dazed Karim stood up, ready to take action. Although he wasn't sure if he could beat the stranger, he certainly didn't want his sister and nephew to be harmed in front of him.
Alex, calmly observing the family's wary expressions, casually tossed the crown towards Adrianna. As soon as she noticed his movement, she caught it with ease.
"You… who are you?"
Feeling the heavy stone crown in her hands, Adrianna's expression remained cautious, but the hostility in her eyes lessened considerably.
The people who had been chasing them for the past few days were after this crown. The fact that Alex had already obtained it and didn't leave but instead threw it to her at least proved that his target wasn't the crown.
Moreover, he didn't seem to want to harm her family, so Adrianna couldn't help but feel relieved.
What she didn't know was that Alex had already thoroughly studied the crown.
Originally, Alex had intended to use the crown to absorb the demonic power from the Hell Dimension, but he hadn't anticipated that the crown was covered by a powerful restriction.
Much like how wizards choose a warrior to inherit the power of Shazam, the crown also needed to choose a rightful owner. Only the King of Kahndaq, who was recognized by the crown, could accept the demonic power.
If he forcefully tried to absorb the demonic power, not only would he gain little energy, but it would also damage the crown's integrity, which was not worth the risk for Alex.
Therefore, Alex chose to hand the crown over to Adrianna instead.
"I'm the one who saved your lives. If it weren't for me, do you think you'd have been able to escape so easily from the Intergang's encirclement?"
"The sparks earlier were your doing?" Upon hearing Alex's words, Adrianna quickly connected the dots.
"Of course, it was me. Just a teleportation spell," Alex replied, walking into the living room and extending his hand toward Adrianna.
"I'm here to help you. You can call me Death Crow."
"Death Crow..."
Though still wary of the stranger before her, Adrianna immediately associated him with superheroes when she heard his self-introduction and saw the eye mask he was wearing.
After a brief moment of hesitation, Adrianna extended her hand and shook Alex's.
She had always been skeptical of superheroes, but no matter how she felt, this man had saved her and Amon. With his goodwill apparent, Adrianna chose to accept it.
"Are you from the Justice Society?" she asked.
"No, I'm a friend of Batman," Alex replied, associating himself with the Bat-family and showing off a Batarang.
"A Batarang!"
Unlike his mother, Amon was very fond of superheroes.
Perhaps because he had lived under constant oppression and, being a child, he desperately hoped that one day, Kahndaq would have its own heroes who could lead them to overthrow the Intergang's rule.
Since he was familiar with superheroes, the moment Amon saw the Batarang in Alex's hand, he became excited.
"Do you like it? It's yours now."
Alex handed the Batarang to Amon, quickly earning a little fan.
Adrianna didn't want her son to have too much contact with this man. After thinking for a moment, she immediately spoke up.
"Since you're not with the Justice Society, then what's your purpose for being here?"
"Let's not talk about that yet. I want you to help me clear up some doubts first."
Hearing Adrianna's question, Alex waved his hand casually and sat down on the sofa, looking at the family in front of him.
"Although I'm not a member of the Justice Society, I do have all the information they have about Kahndaq. I'm not sure of its truth, so I need you to clarify a few things for me."
Adrianna and Karim exchanged a look, both seeing the complexity in each other's eyes.
"Let's talk then. Proper communication and an exchange of information might help us resolve this matter better. After all, our goal is to deal with the Intergang, isn't it?"
Alex continued, "Also, I've placed an eviction spell on your house. You can rest assured that it's safe here."
Listening quietly to Alex's words, Adrianna pondered for a moment before nodding.
"What do you want to know?"
"Everything."
Alex said in a deep voice.
"How did this crown come about? What happened with the explosion at the ruins and the energy reaction? And what is the Intergang's objective in your country? I need to understand the whole picture."
Because the development of this universe had changed, Alex wasn't sure how the details of the plot might differ. He needed to confirm everything with Adrianna.
At the very least, Alex was now sure that this time the Justice Society had only sent Doctor Fate and Hawkman, with no sign of the Atom Smasher or the Cyclone.
"I have the Justice Society's file records. I need you to tell me the entire story first, and then I will decide what information to share with you," Alex said.
Looking at the phone in Alex's hand, which had the Batman symbol on it, Adrianna thought for a moment and then agreed to this approach. She sat down and began to speak.
"The Intergang has been wreaking havoc in my country for many years, but no one ever chose to help us, so I decided to return to my homeland and do something about it.
I discovered that the Intergang's target is Kahndaq's unique Eternium. This metal has existed since ancient times, containing mysterious energy. However, it is scarce and not easily found, so it has been considered a legendary material.
Once the Intergang arrived here, they began mining our country's Eternium on a large scale and sealed off the area, restricting entry and exit. This caused Kahndaq to lose contact with the outside world."
"What's the deal with the crown?" Alex asked.
"According to legend, the tyrannical ancient king of Kahndaq, Ahk-Ton, forged a powerful artifact. Whoever wore it would be able to rule Kahndaq forever. However, before he could wear the crown, a man stood up and overthrew his rule."
"That man was..."
"Yes, it was Teth-Adam, the same person who confronted the Justice Society earlier. We regard him as a hero and built a statue of him as a symbol."
At this point, Adrianna suddenly thought of something and looked up at Alex.
"Wait, Adam…"
Alex knew what she was going to say and interrupted her.
"Don't worry, he's safe now. I sent him and the two from the Justice Society to another location. Once they've calmed down, I'll bring them back. You can continue."
"Alright."
Adrianna nodded and continued.
"Ishmael told me about the crown. He found me by accident and told me about it. He believed that with the power of the crown, Kahndaq might be able to stand against the Intergang."
"Ishmael is the same person who brought the Intergang to capture you earlier, right?" Alex asked.
"Yes, that's him. After we found the ruins, the Intergang began to target us. I had no choice but to recite the incantation carved in the ruins and summon Adam, while Ishmael was buried in the ruins."
Adrianna clenched her fists. "He should've been dead by now. I can't believe he was actually a member of the Intergang!"
"Looking back now, it's possible that our whole operation was a set-up. Ishmael approached me and deceived me. His real goal was to obtain the crown."
"It's okay. The crown is in our hands now, and Kahndaq has its own heroes," Amon said, stepping beside his mother. "As long as Adam is here, we will definitely be able to overthrow the Intergang."
At this point, Alex spoke up.
"Speaking of which, do you really know Adam?"
"What do you mean?" The three of them frowned and looked at Alex.
To them, Adam was the god of Kahndaq. Alex's tone and words clearly seemed to dismiss Adam, which they couldn't accept.
"I knew it. You're just like the two from the Justice Society. Are you going to say that Adam's killings make him an evil person? Did you ever think about the fact that he only killed people from the Intergang, and how many of my people the Intergang has killed?"
Adrianna angrily stood up, pointing at Alex and shouting, "You call yourselves righteous, but where were you when we needed you? Where were you when Kahndaq was being threatened and oppressed by the Intergang?
Now, Kahndaq finally has its own heroes, and you waltz in, treating our hero as the enemy who disrupts peace. Are you too arrogant?!
Do you think justice and evil are for you to decide?"
After a long outburst, Adrianna panted slightly.
She looked at Alex, who sat silently on the couch, and felt a bit of regret. This man had saved them, and he was an extraordinary being. If her words had angered him, killing her would probably be as easy as raising a hand.
Listening quietly to Adrianna's words, Alex slowly lifted his head.
"Are you done?"
Uncertain of Alex's mood, Adrianna didn't know how to respond.
"Ugh."
Alex shook his head, offering a somewhat complex smile.
"I think what you said was quite reasonable. If it were me, I'd have been swearing by now.
The Justice Society is newly established, and there are all kinds of people in it. Many of them have personality flaws and need proper guidance. However..."
Alex paused for a moment, then pulled out the Justice Society's data file on Kahndaq, placing it in front of the three of them.
"But you may have misunderstood my point. What I want to say is that the Justice Society's records on Kahndaq's history and Teth-Adam may differ somewhat from the legends you've passed down."
