Chapter 151 The Old Taoist
Chapter 151 The Old Taoist
The boat swayed in the waters of East City River.
Feeling the warmth emanating from the beauty beside him, Ye Ling's lips always carried a faint smile.
If the world were at peace, he would most likely take Su Rou to a picturesque place to live in seclusion, no longer entangled in worldly strife.
But the current state of the Dragon Nation seemed prosperous and peaceful, yet in reality, it was surrounded by powerful enemies and rife with various factions vying for power and profit.
In such a situation, Ye Ling, as the Northern Liao King, naturally could not just stand by and do nothing.
Moreover, the vengeance for Northern Liao had not yet been exacted by Ye Ling!
"We're docking now!"
The boatman's voice sounded.
Ye Ling nodded slightly, paid the ferryman, and then helped Su Rou ashore.
The two followed a trail through the mountains, and before long they saw a Taoist temple.
The mountain was not high, but the scenery within was extremely beautiful.
"East City Temple... the name of this temple is quite straightforward..."
Looking at the Taoist temple before them, Su Rou said with a light laugh.
Ye Ling also shook his head and smiled.
Other Taoist temples couldn't wait to adopt grandiose names to attract tourists, but this one simply took its name from East City, which couldn't be simpler.
"Let's go, let's have a look inside,"
Ye Ling said with a smile.
After that, the two of them walked into the temple.
True to what the boatman had said, there were quite a few visitors inside East City Temple, each with a devout expression as if they were the most faithful disciples of Taoism.
Ye Ling took a glance at the situation inside the temple, then looked towards a nearby courtyard with a hint of surprise.
In Ye Ling's perception, there was a strong presence of a Martial Artist in that courtyard!
The aura was so strong that it had definitely reached the realm of a War King, and it was not just any War King, but at least a late-stage War King!
Ye Ling raised his eyebrows and whispered, "I didn't expect to encounter such a powerful figure in East City..."
"Huh? What did you say, Brother Ye?"
Su Rou asked curiously.
Ye Ling shook his head and smiled, whispering, "Come, I'll take you to see the 'immortal' that boatman was talking about."
Upon hearing this, Su Rou's eyes immediately filled with curiosity.
Then the two made their way toward that courtyard.
Along the way, no one stepped out to stop them; it seemed that apart from the constant stream of tourists, there were no others in the temple.
Upon entering the courtyard, Ye Ling saw an old man sweeping the ground in the center of the courtyard.
The elder had white hair and beard, wore a Taoist robe, and his aged eyes were full of the vicissitudes of life, as if he had experienced most of the world's hardships.

Noticing visitors, the old Taoist nodded to Ye Ling and Su Rou.
"Have you two come to East City Temple to burn incense and worship the gods?"
The Taoist asked with a light laugh.
Hearing this, Ye Ling shook his head and then said with a smile, "We met a boatman who told us there are immortals in East City Temple."
"That's why we came here, to see these immortals for ourselves."
But the Taoist shook his head with a smile, somewhat helplessly saying, "Hehe, that's just hearsay from outsiders."
"Where in this world are there immortals? If there were really immortals, then why would there be so many beings suffering in this world?"
Having said that, the old Taoist no longer paid attention to Ye Ling and his companion and started sweeping the ground with a broom on his own.
There was a ginkgo tree planted in the courtyard, a very large one; it was so huge that probably five adults could not encircle it with their arms.
The ground was covered with leaves from the ginkgo tree, and just as the Taoist had swept up one area, new leaves would immediately fall from the tree onto the ground.
It was a never-ending cycle, yet the Taoist tirelessly continued to wield his broom.
Ye Ling and his companion did not feel the least bit bored, and they stood there in the courtyard, quietly watching the Taoist sweep the floor.
After a while, Ye Ling spoke up, "Taoist priest, we have been standing here for quite some time; don't you intend to invite us for a cup of tea?"
At these words, the old Taoist stopped his movements and slowly turned around to look at Ye Ling.
A trace of helplessness was evident in the old Taoist's eyes as he chuckled and said, "I am just an old Taoist in this East City Temple, one foot in the coffin; what good tea could I possibly have to treat two guests?"
"If you wish to drink tea, you are welcome to go to the main hall; there is a designated tea room there."
However, Ye Ling simply smiled and shook his head, then responded, "Hehe, I do believe that the tea prepared by the Taoist must be the best tea in the entire East Sea."
"Very well, follow me, then," the old Taoist said with a glance filled with deep meaning at Ye Ling and then spoke somewhat reluctantly.
After uttering these words, the old Taoist put down his broom and walked towards another courtyard nearby.
Su Rou failed to notice that as the old Taoist put down his broom, a gentle breeze softly blew by, sweeping the scattered ginkgo leaves to one side.
Looking at the Taoist's retreating figure, Su Rou said with curiosity, "Ye Brother, is this the immortal that the boatman mentioned?"
"In all of the East Sea, apart from him, I'm afraid there is no second person crowned with the title of an immortal," Ye Ling replied with a smile.
Upon hearing this, the two of them quickly got to their feet and followed.
When Ye Ling and his companion entered the courtyard, they saw that three people dressed like Taoist priests were already seated by the central stone table.
The old Taoist who had been sweeping the floor was sitting between the two, and both Taoist priests seemed to treat him with great respect.
"We have seen the two guests!"
Upon Ye Ling and his companion's arrival, one of the middle-aged Taoist priests stood up and greeted them.
Ye Ling nodded slightly and said with a smile, "May I inquire if you are the master of this East City Temple?"
"Indeed, but how did you come to know?" the middle-aged man asked with a puzzled and curious expression.
Ye Ling simply smiled and replied, "It was mentioned by the boatmen on the East City River."
"Is that so? Please have a seat, guests. If you don't mind, join us to try this tea," the master said.
Despite some confusion, the temple master did not ask any further questions and merely invited Ye Ling and his companion to sit down.
Ye Ling did not hesitate, pulling Su Rou down to sit beside him.
Ye Ling sat directly opposite the old Taoist, who looked at him with eyes full of helplessness.
Seeing his expression, Ye Ling shook his head with a smile and said, "What is it that the Taoist priest keeps staring at me for?"
"No reason, I was just wondering where the guest came from and where he intends to go," the old Taoist shook his head and replied.
Ye Ling, however, picked up the teacup in front of him, drank the tea in one go, and then said with a smile, "Where I come from and where I go to, does it matter?"
"Rather, Taoist priest, from where do you come, and where will you go?"
The old Taoist sitting across from him, who possessed the strength of a late-stage War King, had a faint hint of killing intent; if one paid close attention, this killing intent was incredibly intense.
This Taoist was no ordinary person and had completely piqued Ye Ling's curiosity.
