The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 483 Weak

Chapter 483 Weak

(From Blue's Perspective)

The war went on as it was supposed to, however, instead of Dem, Evan joined the war. It was weird how much trust Dem had put in Evan and I had a feeling the deal they made was more than it seemed to be on the surface.

Although I trusted Evan, Dem was not the same always. He had changed recently, at least, his view did on Evan.

"Your body hurts, doesn't it? Why is it so hard to admit it to me?" I asked, vexed at him that he kept denying his pain to me.

Dem was quite weak. I told Luc about the ingredients I would need to make the gas and he sent someone to get them. It would take a while to know if something affected Dem on the battlefield and made his senses weak.

To my greatest shock and also pleasure, Doctor Dimitri had appeared out of nowhere. He literally looked as good as ever, just a little cut across his left index finger, which I suspected he did not get from the incident, but from his own experiment to make another medicine or something.

It was the first thing I saw when I got up in the next morning. I had hugged him, ignoring Dem's glares, and asked him thousand times if he was okay. He probably got annoyed at those questions as I asked, again and again, the same thing. But I did so anyway.

He checked Dem and confirmed there was no way to get his eye back. He suggested Dem take another person's eye, but that person had to be an Alpha.

"I am not going to take another color, other than black," Dem had said dismissively.

"Then, there is Your Highness's mother only, who is dead," Doctor Dimitri said calmly. "Her body was never found."

'Because she is not dead in the first place. That was just drama to guilt trap his son, who couldn't even care less.'

"I don't need another eye," Dem said. "I can see just fine with one."

I did not say anything. What would I say? If Dem agreed, I would not mind him having an eye of another color. However, it was not something he wanted. And we were ignoring how we would have to gauge an Alpha's eye out so Dem could have two eyes.

That was… cruel?

I shrugged. I was lying to myself again. I had left my old self, at least, parts of my old self when I truly accepted my new identity. Probably that was why when Dem told me he would go for the families of the nobles and also the King, I did not hesitate too much. I just knew it had to be done so we could save our little family.

Dem pinched my cheek hard. "What are you thinking about?"

"Just our meeting with Doctor Dimitri," I replied.

"Are you thinking about my eye?"

"Kind of… Well, it's not like I will force you or anything. I am just telling you to… consider…"

"I hate other colors," he said dismissively. "Besides, I look more handsome with the eyepatch. Is that not right?"

"You look like a pirate," I said. "A really handsome one, who got the girls swooning over him."

"Hmm… But does he swoon over the girls too?"

"No, if he did, his wife would have kicked his ass," I said.

"Ah, he is married, then."

"Of course, he is! A person with your face and stature will always be married to a woman with my face and stature," I said firmly.

"I would love that, and so will all the men with my face and stature," he said, his eye staring into mine with a really familiar look. It was love, was not it?

I touched the eyepatch gently. He had such beautiful eyes. I always loved them. Who dared to take one of those?

"The former Queen is going to die," he said. "I will make sure she does. Maybe I should take her eye then. We have the same eyes."

"No," I mumbled, my fingers trailing over the eyepatch and moving to his other eye. He closed his eyelid. "Not same. Not same at all."

"We both have black eyes," he said.

"Yes, but there is a difference. I can always see the difference," I said. "Yours are different than hers. If I could see the eyes only, I could tell them apart without much of an effort."

"Really?"

"Yours are darker, deeper. I feel some kind of… magnetic force when I look at them," I said. "But hers are hollow. I feel nothing."

"If it was not you but someone else who said it, I would never believe it," he said. "But I know you are not lying. You must see our eyes apart."

"I do," I mumbled and leaned to kiss his lips. Then, I kissed his forehead, his eye and his eyepatch. "I'm glad you are alive. You need to be with me, no? Our baby will make us wait only a little more time. Then, when it is here, shouldn't it have both parents' love?

Dem, I know I don't say it enough, but I need you. I need you so I can live, I want you so I can be happy and I love you so… my heart can be at ease. Please don't leave me."

"I won't. I really won't," he said, but the faint hint of doubt did not leave my notice.

After that incident, he probably was not much confident in his ability. He realized something could happen to him too. He had lost one eye that day, maybe next time, he would lose his life.

"… Let me help," I said. "Let me stay with you and help you."

He took a look at my stomach and then my face. "You are pregnant. Even if I agreed, you cannot use your power."

"… I will make potions. I will make the ones that take less power. I will get the other mages and make them work on the potions for me and then, I will use my power to activate them. I will see if they can be activated with their power too. Theoretically, it is possible for some potions to be activated by their power. I will try.

Let me do it. Just this. I don't want to just sit back and wait for someone to come save me in a time of danger. I need to work. This way, I will be safer."

'This way, even if something happens to me, at least, I would die knowing I put up a fight, I was an obstacle and I created a barrier.'

He could not lie down anymore. He got up and sat straight so he could see my face properly.

"… Is that what you want?" he asked.

I was surprised. It was the first time I heard so much clarity in his voice when he asked for what I actually wanted.

'Is that what you want? How long did I want to hear it?'

I took a grip on my overflowing emotions and gave a firm nod. "Yes," I said. A nod was not enough. I needed to tell him how much I wanted him. As if I put all my reasonings in the word, I said once again, "Yes."

"Will you keep yourself safe and not overwork? Will you rest when I tell you to without a word?" he asked.

"Y-Yes…"

"Again."

"Yes, I will," I said.

"And will you forever stay with me until I die? Will you always be with me, even if you crave more power, even if your heart wants to be with your kind, someone who can live as long as you do?"

I cupped his face and the words I spoke next were all the words my heart spoke. "Forever, my love. There is nothing and no one I will ever want more," I said. "I love you more than anything else. We will have our baby and we will live together forever with our baby. Who said anything about leaving, searching for more power, and someone of my kind?

I don't need more power, not my kind. I want someone who can love me. It's you, my love. Why would I want someone else? No one else will love me as much as you do. And I will never be able to love someone as much as I love you."

"And half-mortality," I chuckled. "I don't know if I will ever unconsciously accept it. But in my right mind, I won't. I don't think I will."

Besides, was it really impossible to make a half-mortality potion? How much power could it even take? Who said I should not try? If I did not try, how would I know?

"I will grow old. I will have wrinkles, I will lose my teeth, maybe I won't be able to walk someday," he said. "Will you still, as fresh as the night sky, as young as the snow, be with me? With an old man?"

I chuckled. "You will be my husband, old or not. My lover, toothless or not. It doesn't matter. Nothing matters. It might sound weird now, but really, just wait and see.

I will love you, even more, each day. You might even someday want to get rid of me because of my love."

He laughed now, a genuine and lively laugh. "I will wait for that to happen."
