Chapter 218 Icy Barista.

....
Hugo hadn't even planned on stopping for coffee today.
In fact, he had been casually walking down the street, minding his own business, when—bam!—he caught sight of her through the glass windows of a quaint little café.
A vision.
A dark-skinned goddess of a barista, standing behind the counter with a no nonsense expression, her arms flexing ever so slightly as she worked the espresso machine.
She had full, luscious lips that looked like they could bless—or curse—a man's entire existence.
Sharp, commanding eyes that could probably cut through steel. And a figure so perfectly sculpted, he was convinced Michelangelo himself would've shed tears of joy.
Hugo stopped in his tracks. His eyes widened and his beauty radar was at full blast.
'…Well, damn.'
A sudden, urgent, and completely logical thought struck him.
'I need coffee.'
He wasn't particularly craving coffee before, but now? Now, he needed it. Desperately. His soul was parched.
His day would not be complete without it. And it had nothing to do with the way her apron hugged her waist or the way her ponytail swayed when she turned her head.
Or the way her jeans was stretched to the limit because of her perky butt and thick thighs.
Absolutely nothing.
So, naturally, he walked inside, stood in line, and waited.
When it was finally his turn, he stepped forward with his most charming smile. With the aura of alpha activated for the extra boost, Hugo was determined to impress!
"Good morning, beautiful."
The barista did not even blink. Experience more on My Virtual Library Empire
"What do you want?" she asked, her voice flat and businesslike.
Hugo's smile faltered slightly. He straightened his shoulders and gulped. 'Okay. So she's not easily flustered. Challenge accepted.'
He liked a woman with a strong will.
"I'll have a cappuccino." He leaned on the counter, flashing her his most charming smile effortlessly.
With the maxed out Modelling Mastery, his every move was a masterpiece of perfection and charisma. "And maybe your name, if that's on the menu?"
She deadpanned at him, punched his order into the register, and said, "That'll be five dollars."
Hugo blinked, taken aback.
Another failure? What was she, a block of ice?
It was almost like she was deaf. She gave no reaction. No blush. Not even the slightest twitch of amusement.
She simply took his cash like a dead eyed robot, turned around, and got to work.
Hugo watched her back view in awe. He already had a slight grasp on her personality.
Cold. Efficient. Unshakable. A fortress of feminine power. But a fountain of emotions sealed within...
As he received his coffee—served with the same lack of warmth—his system suddenly pinged.
[Alert: 9 Rated Beauty Identified.]
Hugo's eyebrows shot up.
'I knew it! My taste is impeccable!'
This was the second 9 rated woman he was seeing after Loli. She was simply too stunning.
The barista, however, had already moved on to the next customer, as if his existence meant less than the foam in his cup.
Hugo felt his competitive spirit boil. He had marked her as his target.
As he walked out of the café, taking a sip of his coffee, he nodded to himself.
'Alright. I'll be coming here more often.'
…Because he was definitely a coffee guy. Not because she had a round, perky butt and an attitude that made him want to ruin her composure.
Nope. That had nothing to do with it.
—One Hour Later, Back in the Dorm—
Hugo stepped into his dorm room, still replaying the barista encounter in his mind. He barely had time to put down his keys before he noticed Collins, fully dressed and about to leave.
"Yo, where you off to?" Hugo asked casually.
Collins, however, didn't greet him back. He simply glared at him like he had just committed a war crime.
Hugo frowned. "Uh… What's with the face?"
Collins took a deep, furious breath before dramatically throwing his hands in the air.
"You betrayed me!"
Hugo blinked. "Huh?"
"BROS. BEFORE. HOES." Collins roared. "Do you not understand this sacred code?! You ABANDONED me for a woman!"
Hugo stared at him in shock. Had Collins forgotten to take his meds? "Wait, wait, what are you even talking about?"
Collins jabbed a finger at him, eyes wild with betrayal. "You know exactly what I'm talking about! You ditched me! For some random girl the time I needed you the most! And you didn't even text me back, you son of a—"
Hugo rubbed his temples. "It was important, okay?"
"Oh, yeah? More important than our brotherhood?" Collins demanded.
"Yes!" Hugo exclaimed, then quickly backtracked. "No! Wait. Okay, listen—"
"No, no, don't even try to talk your way out of this." Collins dramatically wiped an imaginary tear from his eye.
"I thought we were bonded for life. I thought we were partners in crime. But nooo, the second you see a pretty girl—"
"Collins, I'm sorry, okay?!" Hugo burst out, exasperated.
Collins folded his arms and narrowed his eyes. "You better be. Because the pain you have caused me…" He sniffled. "Unforgivable."
Hugo groaned. "You're being ridiculous."
"I AM SUFFERING."
Hugo gave up. "Fine. I abandoned you. My bad."
Collins sniffed, then nodded in satisfaction. "Apology accepted."
Hugo rolled his eyes. "Anyway, where are you going?"
Collins' face immediately brightened. "My party's tonight, remember? I'm meeting up with the decorator now so we can finish setting up before the evening."
Hugo raised an eyebrow. "Oh, right. Can I tag along?"
Collins crossed his arms. "You want to make it up to me?"
"Yes."
"Buy me food on the way."
Hugo sighed. "Fine."
"Then let's go, traitor." Collins turned, already marching out the door.
Hugo shook his head but followed after him.
…At least Collins was easy to bribe.
