Chapter 191 Crisis!
Chapter 191 Crisis!
[Part 1/12 of today's Mass release! Here you go fellas! Big Shout-out to Dirtydew!]
Erica sauntered towards their table, hips swaying, her blonde hair bouncing with every step.
She looked like she walked straight out of a magazine with those long, toned, sexy legs. Her sultry gaze locked onto Hugo, and she smirked like a predator.
Hugo's inner playboy instantly activated. The demon Sanchez and Collins raised was awakened.
'Alright, stay cool. Stay smooth. Stay—'
A cold chill ran down his spine.
He glanced to his left.
Loli was staring daggers at him. Her cute, eyes were narrowed and studying his expression in detail. She almost looked like his grandma!
Hugo swallowed.
'Abort mission. ABORT!
He quickly straightened his expression into something respectable. The devil wasn't allowed to live. It had been exorcised by Loli the second.
"Morning, Erica," he greeted casually, as if she hadn't just winked at him like they shared a secret.
"Morning, handsome," Erica purred.
Loli's eyebrow twitched.
Hugo panicked internally. He was feeling bittersweet emotions. A beauty was flirting with him, but his life was also in danger the more she did!
'Loli, I swear I have done nothing wrong!'
But before anything escalated, another voice interrupted.
Emily, the dark-haired beauty with glasses, walked in looking confident and composed as always. Her simple clothes could not hide her wonderful figure underneath. Hugo was very tempted to uncover them...
She spotted Hugo and immediately smiled.
"Hugo, good to see you! I hope you're still up for our dinner date?"
Hugo's soul left his body.
Loli's head snapped toward him so fast, he almost heard a crack. He wasn't sure if the crack came from her neck or his soul bashing into the window.
Mia and Erica both turned to him with interest. Even a random guy sitting nearby looked over! He was jealous such a beauty would willingly go on a date with such a shorty!
Hugo froze. His brain started processing at light speed. 'D-dinner? What dinner?!'
Then—his memory clicked.
Oh.
OH.
The other day, Emily had asked if he would accompany her to a dinner party held by her parents and act as her boyfriend.
Of course he had said yes. He would be foolish not to. Especially when he would get a real date after.
…But now it sounded like a very serious date.
Hugo needed a recovery plan. FAST. Or his head would need recovery instead!
He let out a smooth chuckle and leaned back confidently.
"Ah, of course, Emily," he said, smiling. "I'd never break an appointment with such a dedicated team member. It's important to thoroughly discuss our projected goals, after all."
Emily nodded, satisfied. "Exactly!"
Hugo sighed in relief.
But then—
Loli narrowed her eyes.
"So... just the two of you?" she asked, her voice suspiciously neutral.
Hugo's mind sprinted at full speed.
ALARM. ALARM!
Time to deflect.
"Actually!" he said dramatically. "I was just about to ask if you wanted to come along, Loli."
Loli blinked. "Huh?"
"Yeah," Hugo nodded. "I think your insight would be invaluable. I wouldn't want to make any major project decisions without my vice captain."
Loli looked pleased.
Emily? Not so much. She was staring at him weirdly. But before she could protest, Hugo smirked at her.
"Of course," he added, lowering his voice slightly, "if you wanted it to be just us, I wouldn't mind either."
Emily blushed.
Loli frowned again.
'Shit, too much!'
Hugo quickly looked away and sipped his drink. It was too difficult. It was like juggling six feet long swords!
Still...
Crisis avoided.
For now.
—
Finally, they started the actual meeting.
Hugo clapped his hands together. "Alright, people! Our project—'Building a Civilization Based on Era and Location'—is no small task. We need a plan."
Mia raised her hand. "Did you actually read the requirements?"
Hugo blinked. "Of course."
Mia squinted at him.
Hugo looked away.
No, he absolutely had not.
"Anyway!" he continued. "Let's strategically divide the work." By "strategically," he meant dumping most of it onto others.
"First, we need someone to research ancient civilizations—Loli, that's you."
Loli nodded, already flipping open a book. When it came to school work, she was very serious.
"Second, we need someone to write the main report—Mia, that can be your specialty, right?"
Mia sighed but nodded.
"Third, someone needs to handle the presentation visuals—Erica, you're good with PowerPoint, are you?"
Erica winked. "I do have a talent for making things look pretty."
Hugo grinned. "Perfect."
"Fourth," he continued, "we need someone to compile all the data and format it properly. Emily, you love organizing things, don't you?"
Emily nodded hesitantly. "I guess…"
Hugo clapped his hands together. "Great! That just leaves one final role…"
Everyone looked at him.
Hugo smiled proudly. He patted his chest heroically.
"I, Hugo, will supervise."
Silence.
Mia facepalmed.
Loli threw a pencil at him.
—
Right at that moment, the final member, Jess, the fiery redhead, barged in.
She was breathless, clearly having sprinted across campus.
"Sorry, sorry! I overslept!" she gasped, dropping into her chair.
Hugo took a moment to admire her flustered look. Her face was pink and sweat matted her forehead.
Cute.
"Alright, what did I miss?" she asked, plopping into a chair and propping her feet up on the table like she owned the place.
Hugo, who had just barely survived a verbal landmine earlier when Emily casually brought up their dinner plans in front of Loli (and somehow talked his way out of it without getting smacked), was in no mood for another crisis.
But fate, it seemed, was not on his side.
Because Jess, after listening to a whole two minutes of discussion about the project, suddenly turned to him with a thoughtful look and asked,
"By the way, Hugo… do you have a girlfriend?"
Silence.
Dead silence.
Hugo's brain short-circuited. His soul left his body, floated to the ceiling, and waved goodbye.
Loli stared at him.
Mia perked up.
Emily adjusted her glasses.
Erica grinned mischievously.
Hugo's brain exploded.
