Chapter 128 Mine's Closer.
Chapter 128 Mine's Closer.
Hugo's world spun as he stumbled back to his feet, clutching his jaw. Lisa's punch had been no joke.
His head felt like it had just been introduced to a spinning carnival ride, and everything around him seemed to wobble. Find exclusive stories on empire
"Okay, okay," he muttered, blinking rapidly to steady himself. "Maybe… maybe I deserved that." His fingers gently pressed the sore spot on his face, and he winced.
The punch had landed with the precision of a guided missile, but he wasn't complaining. He had acted like a complete jerk earlier by pushing a lady off a bike.
But yet again... He really couldn't be blamed. Any guy out there about to insult Hugo had to consider the fact that his life was on the line afterall!
It was a do or die affair!
He let out a long sigh, shoulders slumping. 'Alright, fine, I might've overdone it when I… y'know, pushed her off a bike. But, come on! I was frustrated! I was desperate! And—' his inner voice rose dramatically,
'—I didn't want to die! Can't a guy do what he's gotta do?!'
Taking a deep breath, Hugo straightened up and put on his most sincere face. "Alright, let's fix this."
He closed his eyes for a second, activating his Aura of Persuasion. It was his secret weapon—a charm boosting skill that made his words irresistible.
With it, he could talk his way out of nearly any mess, and he planned to use it to apologise to Lisa.
He opened his eyes, his best apology already forming in his head. But before he could say a single word, Lisa stormed toward him.
"Wait, wait!" Hugo's hands shot up defensively, expecting another punch. Her fighting skills were not ordinary, and he wasn't confident he could withstand a second punch without squealing.
But the expected attack didn't come. Instead, she grabbed the front of his shirt, yanked him down—and smashed her lips against his.
Hugo's brain flatlined. Like it went completely, absolutely silent. His whole being was concentrated on that single spot where their bodies joined.
The kiss was… Wow. It was like fireworks exploding in his mind, bright and overwhelming.
It was soft, soothing, and somehow fiery all at once. His carefully planned apology disappeared like smoke in the wind.
'Wait, what's happening?'
For a few blissful seconds, he simply stood there, letting the kiss consume him. Then something clicked in his dazed mind, and he kissed her back with equal fervour, his hands moving almost automatically to her waist.
Before he knew it, his hands slid down further, grabbing her plump butt and giving them a firm squeeze.
He was a butt guy, he had to show them a little love during any make out session.
Adrenaline surged through Hugo like a rocket booster. With a burst of strength, he wrapped his arms around her, lifting her off the ground.
Lisa, to his delight, wrapped her legs tightly around his waist, pulling him closer. It was like she wanted to enter into him. Or like they weren't close enough.
Their kiss deepened, becoming a whirlwind of passion and energy, a blend of all the pent-up emotions they'd been feeling.
It almost seemed like they were trying to outdo each other even now.
After what felt like a lifetime, Hugo finally broke the kiss, his chest heaving. "So…" he said with a lopsided grin, "does this mean I win?"
Lisa stared at him, her cheeks bright red. "You're such an idiot," she said, her tone caught somewhere between playful and exasperated. "You played so dirty! You pushed me off a bike, babe! A moving bike! Who does that?"
"I know, I know. I was a jerk. I'm sorry, okay?" he said quickly, raising his hands in mock surrender.
"I just… I couldn't lose! I was desperate, and you're just… too good. I couldn't let you win. Please forgive me?" His voice softened, his apology sincere despite the chaotic situation.
Lisa crossed her arms, her lips twitching as if she was trying not to smile. "You're lucky you're cute," she said, shaking her head. "Fine. Apology accepted. But you owe me!"
Hugo grinned like a kid on Christmas morning. "So… does that mean I win?"
Lisa rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her smirk. "Yes, fine. You win, you lunatic!"
"Yes!" Hugo pumped his fist in the air, his face lighting up with pure joy. 'She said it. I won. I actually won! This is the best day of my—'
His celebration was short lived. His eyes darted to his watch, and his heart skipped a beat.
10:35.
Hugo's stomach twisted into knots. Fear gripped him like a vice, his earlier excitement vanishing in an instant.
The system's death mission loomed over him like a storm cloud, and he only had until midnight to complete it. If he didn't… well, he didn't even want to think about it.
"Uh, Lisa," he said, his voice shaky, "your place or mine?"
Lisa raised an eyebrow at his sudden seriousness. "Mine's closer."
"Perfect. Yes, ma'am!" Hugo said, saluting her dramatically.
They both turned to grab their fallen bikes, brushing off the dirt as fast as they could.
Without wasting another second, they mounted up and started pedalling furiously, the sound of their tires crunching against the gravel echoing in the quiet night.
The cool night air whipped past his face as he pumped his legs furiously. His thoughts raced even faster than his bike.
'Come on, Hugo. Less than two hours. You can't mess this up now. Focus! Pedal like your life depends on it—because it does!'
Beside him, Lisa glanced over, her smirk returning. "You know," she teased, "for someone who just 'won,' you look like you're being chased by a pack of wolves."
"I'm just… excited!" Hugo said, forcing a nervous laugh. "Very, very excited!"
And also maybe a little terrified, he added silently, pedalling even faster.
And with that, the race wasn't over yet.
