Chapter 126 There's No Cheating!
Chapter 126 There's No Cheating!
Hugo clutched the handlebars like they were his only lifeline, his face contorted with sheer focus.
Every muscle in his body screamed at him to stop, but he ignored them all. This wasn't just about winning anymore—this was about survival.
The bike wobbled underneath him as if it was laughing at his efforts, rattling louder with every furious pedal.
He clenched his jaw, his face twisted into what he probably thought looked like determination, but in reality, resembled someone desperately holding in a sneeze.
His focus sharpened as he neared the spot—the very same cursed pothole that had ruined his race earlier.
He could still feel the sting of humiliation from falling down like a sack of potatoes. This time, he couldn't let history repeat itself.
'Alright, Hugo. You've trained for this moment. Well, not really, but you've suffered enough to learn. No mistakes. Not here. Not again.'
"No way am I going down again!" Hugo yelled, squinting at the pothole like it was a mortal enemy. "Not today, Satan!"
His heart pounded in his chest as he leaned forward, his sweaty hands gripping the handlebars so tightly his knuckles turned white.
The bike rattled dangerously as he adjusted his weight, trying to navigate the minefield of potholes with the precision of a brain surgeon.
And then, by some miracle—or sheer dumb luck—he cleared it. No crash. No fall.
Hugo let out a victorious whoop, but the celebration was cut short when he realized Lisa was now way ahead of him again.
While attempting to not crash, he had unknowingly slowed down his speed.
Hugo's stomach twisted. 'This is bad. Like, really bad. I can't lose. I can't die! What was that thing about the System 'erasing me'? No thanks!'
He pedalled harder, but the bike creaked ominously, as if it was saying, We both know you're not catching up, buddy.
His legs burned like they were on fire, but he didn't stop. He couldn't. Lisa was just a speck in the distance now, her sleek, shiny bike gliding effortlessly down the track.
Meanwhile, Hugo's bike clunked and groaned as if begging for retirement.
"This is ridiculous," he huffed. "She's got a Ferrari, and I've got... a tricycle with arthritis."
Panic set in. The gap between them wasn't just big—it was embarrassing. If he didn't do something drastic, he'd lose for sure.
And losing wasn't an option. The System had made that very clear.
Hugo's eyes darted around the track, searching for anything—anything—that could help him.
Then he saw it: a diagonal shortcut cutting through the grass. It wasn't part of the race, but it could shave off a huge chunk of time.
He hesitated for a split second. "Is this cheating?" he wondered aloud. Then he shook his head. "Nope. She said no rules. And no rules means no cheating!"
With that, Hugo yanked the handlebars and veered off the track. The bike bounced wildly over the uneven ground, every bump threatening to throw him off.
"Hold it together, Hugo!" he shouted, his voice rising an octave as the bike hit a particularly nasty rock. "You've got this! You're a genius! A shortcut genius!"
Meanwhile, Lisa glanced back over her shoulder and did a double take when she saw him barreling through the grass. Her mouth dropped open. "Hey! That's cheating!"
Hugo shouted back, "You said no rules! If there are no rules, then there's no cheating!"
Lisa groaned, clearly regretting her choice of words. She couldn't follow him now—she was already too far along the final stretch of the track.
All she could do was pedal faster and hope Hugo's reckless stunt wouldn't pay off.
Meanwhile, Hugo was pushing himself harder than he ever thought possible. His legs were a blur, his entire body bouncing like a ragdoll as the bike tore through the uneven ground.
"Come on, Hugo!" he yelled at himself. "You're almost there! You're a genius! A racing legend! No one can stop you now!"
The bike, however, disagreed. It shook violently, every bump and dip threatening to throw him off. Hugo held on for dear life, his face a mix of terror and determination.
"I swear, if this bike falls apart, I'm haunting whoever built it!"
To his surprise, the shortcut worked. When Hugo rejoined the track, the distance between him and Lisa had shrunk drastically. She was still ahead, but not by much.
for the first time in the race, hope sparked in his chest.
"Okay, Hugo," he muttered to himself, pedalling harder. "You're back in the game. Time to show her what you're made of!"
His legs pumped like pistons, his entire body bouncing comically with each pedal. Sweat dripped into his eyes, but he didn't care. He was too busy picturing his glorious victory.
"Just a little more!" he yelled, his voice filled with a mix of desperation and determination. "I can do this! I will do this!"
Lisa, meanwhile, was pedalling like a pro, her movements smooth and efficient. But Hugo was closing the gap, his frantic energy making up for his lack of skill.
As they neared the final stretch, Hugo and Lisa were nearly side by side. Their eyes met, and for a moment, the world seemed to slow down.
Lisa's gaze was sharp, filled with competitive fire. Hugo's was... well, intense in its own way, but it was hard to take him seriously with his sweat-soaked hair plastered to his face and his determined scowl that looked more like he was trying not to sneeze.
Neither said a word, but their expressions spoke volumes. Lisa's said, You're not winning this. Hugo's replied, Watch me.
And then, with a simultaneous burst of energy, they both surged forward, pedalling with everything they had.
Hugo's bike rattled like it was about to fall apart, but he didn't care. His legs were a blur, his arms flailed slightly as he tried to keep the bike steady, and his face was a hilarious mix of terror and determination.
"Come on, you rusty piece of junk!" he shouted at the bike. "Don't fail me now!"
The finish line loomed ahead, the crowd (if you could call it that) holding their breath as the two racers approached.
The tension was unbearable. Every second felt like an eternity. Both Hugo and Lisa were giving it their all, their bikes neck and neck.
And then...
Hugo's bike wobbled violently.
