“Let’s put ourselves in their shoes for a moment. If you had gotten such a huge advantage, would you give the other party this kind of opportunity? Definitely not. So choosing the first option is too risky for us. We’re giving away too little and the future is uncertain. We better not challenge this sort of thing. Therefore, the second option turns out to be the best choice for us now,” the person quickly added.
“What do you think, Chief?” another person asked, with everyone’s attention now focused on Barry. It was evident that Barry’s decision could influence many others.
“I choose the second option,” Barry considered briefly before decisively speaking up.
“Why?”
“It’s simple. The first option seems beneficial for us, but don’t forget that just obeying orders, if our family’s territory becomes His Highness’s logistics and supply base with no economic development, even if it’s all ours, what good is that? But if we take the second option, we get a certain share of ownership, and the territory belongs to His Highness. If His Highness develops it well, maybe even 1% of the shares will be worth much more than all our family’s current assets, much stronger too,” Barry stated resolutely.
Barry’s words undoubtedly made many people’s hearts flutter; indeed, territories come in many kinds. There are logistics bases and those developed economically. Just following Finn Lewis’s orders, if Finn Lewis won’t let you develop economically, then it doesn’t matter who owns it.
But the second option merely ties us to Finn Lewis. “Let’s vote now, we have five minutes. It’s simple. Whether it’s the first or second option, we can’t sever ties with His Highness now. If anyone wants to leave the family, you can do so now. We don’t have a choice, either we have nothing, or we choose between these two options. Those in favor of the first option, raise your hand,” Barry directly stated. Following his words, a few people immediately raised their hands, clearly believing that the first option was better for them.
“So, everyone else chooses the second option then. As such, I will implement the second option,” Barry declared firmly.
Since everyone had voted and decided, there were no objections. Families typically are quite committed to actions once decided, especially since they didn’t really have another choice here.
No one spoke further, most accepted the decision calmly. Barry immediately had someone invite Finn Lewis in. Once Finn Lewis entered, Barry promptly said, “Your Highness, we have decided on the second option.”
“Oh, that’s a bit unexpected. No problem, then we’ll proceed with the second option. Luna Starfield, according to the arrangements we discussed before coming here, inform them what is allocated to them. Also, outline the entire official framework and related structures for Luna Starfield and give them a charter,” Finn Lewis stated briskly.
“As you wish, Your Highness,” Luna Starfield quickly agreed.
Finn Lewis and Luna Starfield had prepared contingency plans for all possible choices before arriving. Since they had chosen the option Finn Lewis most wanted to see, it was undoubtedly the most helpful for him because right now, Finn Lewis didn’t lack anything but people.
Even though Earth’s population wasn’t small, it certainly wasn’t as large as the Aitken Family’s. The Aitken Family’s territory wasn’t very large, consisting only of four stellar systems, including five Administrative Stars and some space city populations. In total, the Aitken Family had about 40 billion people.
But honestly, this number didn’t reflect the true potential value of the population. It could be said that the governance of these families, especially the mid-size and smaller ones, wasn’t very suited here. In fact, some of Earth’s political systems are very compatible with the conditions and environment here.
Only a few adjustments needed to be made. Of course, a purely loose federation like the Galactic Federation wouldn’t work, but the royal family’s nine major surnames, although they seemed like a family structure, actually had an overall family framework that didn’t differ much from a country’s organizational structure. The only difference was that the direct heirs of the family had absolute authority here.
This is the so-called privileged class, and every family has it. However, these heirs aren’t very spoiled, mainly because they dare not be. But this is relative; ordinary people certainly wouldn’t dare provoke them.
Luna Starfield then handed over all the plans to Barry to handle. That evening, an announcement was broadcast directly on all the network channels and news media outlets belonging to the Aitken Family.
“To all residents within the Aitken Family territories, greetings. The following announcement is now in effect: According to the agreement between His Majesty Finn Lewis of the nine-star royal family and the Aitken Family Chief, all territories of the Aitken Family will henceforth be incorporated into the land of His Majesty Finn Lewis’s family, effective immediately. From today, the Aitken Family territories will cease to exist.”
“This place will become one of the nine-star royal family’s territories. Starting today, the administrative officials on every planet will commence reformation. The scale of the detailed restructuring is as follows.” The measures listed below are what Finn Lewis and Luna Starfield had discussed. Actually, the families’ namesake governance wasn’t much different from a state.
All departments were quite developed. Now it was simply a matter of taking over those departments – pretty straightforward. The main changes Finn Lewis made were legal ones, and in this aspect, he dramatically increased the rights of ordinary residents by countless times – much greater than those in other royal family territories.
There’s an old saying on Earth that it’s not scarcity but inequality that causes trouble. People are like that, almost all Wisdom Creatures are, really. Although these people were connected to the Aitken family, many of them lived decently well. But to put it bluntly, they were essentially private assets of the Aitken family.
Crudely stated, if the Aitken Family wished, they could sell them as slaves, and they wouldn’t have the right to object; this was almost an unwritten rule within the entire Galactic Federation covering all the territories of the royal families. Though these inhabitants were also considered citizens of Federation territories,
The Federation didn’t have law enforcement agencies to maintain the rights of ordinary people; they only maintained the interests of the royal and noble families. But now, Finn Lewis was changing this status quo. The first thing he changed in the law was “the prince and the commoner are equal under the law.”
