Chapter 818: Chapter 813 What is the Sea of Worms (Part 2)_1
And previously, this place had confined at least tens of millions of corrupted flying insects all at once, but now all these corrupted insects had surged out.
Even though this was space, when tens of millions of monsters densely packed were continuously flying over from the distance, and with even more monsters densely joining in from that gigantic creature.
This terrifying scene had turned Jeremiah Jenkins’s face ashen.
“Attention all hands, attention all hands,” space fighters, prepare to engage the enemy, space mechs ready, clear the firing path for the main cannon, release the spare war hammers, deploy all combat simulation robots, join the battle,” Jeremiah’s voice made the whole fleet’s atmosphere tense.
However, to Finn Lewis, it seemed that the outcome was already doomed, and the reason was simple: as soon as these tens of millions of corrupted flying insects broke through, the battle was bound to end.
Especially since the space fighters and mechs that emerged from the ships, though initially holding off the attack, could only fend off part of the corrupted insects, while more corrupted insects started to destroy the defense systems of the war hammers, and others bypassed the hammer’s defenses to attack the warships directly.
The war hammer defense system was not a shield; it could not provide all-round, no blind spot defense, especially when the quantity of attacking objects reached a certain level, it simply could not block anymore, and the remaining corrupted insects rushed straight in, and the shield was useless against such non-energy attacks.
From Finn Lewis’s god’s eye view, countless corrupted insects were almost unendingly charging towards the opponent’s fleet. At first, both sides were able to maintain a line, but as more and more corrupted insects joined the fray, the space fighters and mechs, while not entirely doomed since their defenses held up until their energy ran out, were just adequate.
That was all they were, adequate, they couldn’t determine an absolute number, countless corrupted insects directly passed over them, or surrounded them, and enveloped the warships directly.
And at that moment, the main cannon of the warships had finally finished charging, and Jeremiah could no longer afford to worry about the space fighters outside.
“Fire!” Jeremiah ordered almost instantly, raising his voice. Following his command, the main cannons of all the warships fired blue and white beams of light directly towards the direction from which the hatching insects were surging, their formidable power creating dozens of clear channels through the dense swarm of corrupted insects.
The space, which had been densely packed just moments before, cleared up a bit, but just as these main cannons pierced through the corrupted insects and headed towards Leviathan, suddenly, a violent burst of purple light flashed from the massive Leviathan, and in an instant, the giant Leviathan disappeared.
Gone along with it were all the Insect Species units surrounding Leviathan’s body, and next, something utterly shocking to Finn Lewis happened: the Leviathan that just vanished reappeared almost instantly above the densely positioned space fleet. And the Leviathan overhead immediately erupted into a fearsome purple glow.
Because these warships were in a dense formation, deploying the War Hammer defense system for concentrated protection and minimizing their defensive perimeter, their collective volume wasn’t large when they gathered together, it was even only half the size of Leviathan. But the moment Leviathan appeared abruptly above them, it looked like a massive beast that had instantaneously moved above these warships.
Of course, in the vacuum of space, there is no true up or down. One could also imagine the warships floating above Leviathan, which had its back to the warships. However, none of this was the crucial point. The critical matter was that when Leviathan directly jumped to the space above the fleet, the numerous thick tentacles underneath Leviathan instantly struck out like octopus arms with the speed of lightning.
Finn Lewis was shocked by what happened next. These tentacles, although biological, had an extremely terrifying penetrative power, and nearly every warship was allocated at least a dozen tentacles that pierced through all warships in an instant! Each one was penetrated by no less than a dozen tentacles! If that was all, it might have been tolerable, but these tentacles were not just for attack. They were hollow inside, serving as channels!
These channels were now filled to the brim with countless swarming Insect Species ground units, flooding into each warship like a tide. In the vastness of space, a fleet could rely on its formidable technology and terrifying scientific might to suppress the Insect Species, but now, as Leviathan approached and directly deployed the Insect Species ground units, the outcome was beyond doubt.
With such proximity and the Insect Species ground units being transferred inside, the doom of this fleet was merely a matter of time.
“Boom” “Boom” terrifying explosions accompanied by shrill alarm bells as the entire warship began to shake violently. Inside the bridge, apart from the simulacrum robots, everyone else’s face was filled with sheer terror. Jeremiah Jenkins was no exception, though he was, after all, battle-hardened.
He quickly regained his composure. Once he understood the situation, Jeremiah Jenkins spoke in a deep voice, “Send all the data back to the home planet. Transmit all the war data here, and inform them of our current situation. Prepare to jump directly.”
“Report! Your Highness, the jump engine cannot lock onto the coordinates, we are being disrupted by a special kind of energy! The jump engine can’t be used,” the pilot operating the ship’s engine said with an anxious tone.
A tremor ran through Jeremiah’s hand before he let out a bitter laugh and said, “Now, relay my orders. All hands to the escape pods. Let’s get out as many as we can. I never thought I would die here.”
Despair filled his eyes. Everyone knew what it meant to be unable to jump. Considering the dense mass of corrupted flying insects outside, after a long pause, Jeremiah suddenly raised his voice, “Relay my order! Reverse the reactor! Charge the engine without limit! Activate the ship’s self-destruct mechanism!”
Jeremiah’s command left everyone momentarily stunned, but as the continual screams over the communication system and the horrific speed at which the Gene Warrior numbers, as well as space fighter and mech counts in the battle statistics system were dwindling, everyone knew they had no other choice.
“What are we waiting for! Even if we die, we’ll take these creatures with us! They can perform interstellar jumps. If they break into our territory, do you know what that means? Your families, our descendants, they won’t be able to survive!” Jeremiah bellowed.
