Chapter 783: Chapter 777: Buy When Say Buy
“Oh, let’s hear it.” Finn Lewis replied immediately, his face full of anticipation.
Immediately, Mike pulled up a holographic projection on his personal brain-computer interface for Finn Lewis to review. His first impression of the warship was that it had a strange design. It felt less like a ship and more like some sort of erotic toy for females back on Earth. In a weird way, it somewhat resembled a part of male anatomy.
No one else seemed to make such a connection. The ship had a cone-like shape, with extended engines on both sides of the tail, creating a unique silhouette. What caught his attention the most, though, was the large cannon at the front of the ship. The diameter was genuinely huge.
As a current owner of a first-class battleship, Finn understood what kind of firepower that much calibre could deliver.
“Your Highness, you might already know how much a first-class battleship costs. Without exaggerating, one can cost around one hundred million star credits. That’s the low end of the spectrum. If the design is superior, the price could be even higher. But as you might have noticed, our battleship, the War Eagle, wields a cannon as powerful as a first-class battleship’s,” Mike Aitken quickly explained.
Seeing the spark of interest on Finn’s face, Mike was further inspired. He quickly elaborated on the War Eagle, while Finn looked thoughtful and intrigued. Anyone observing would think that Finn was genuinely interested in what was presented before him.
Nonetheless, Finn was actually listening to Luna Starfield’s report, “Your Highness, there is a 90% chance that he is allied with Suleiman Cooper. According to the data I’ve gathered, communication records exist between the fat man and Suleiman within the man’s personal brain-computer interface. It appears that he is planning to scam you.”
Finn’s communication with Luna Starfield had transcended mere audio. Interior thought transmissions facilitated by a device capturing neural wavelengths were more appropriate. It worked similarly to telepathy and was obtained from Zero. The Galactic Federation currently lacked such an incredible invention. However, anything Finn wanted to say could be picked up by Luna as long as he thought of it.
“Good choice of words, ‘scam’ is fitting. I understand their intentions, but anyone planning to scam me better be prepared for the consequences. Not just anyone can attempt such a thing,” Finn communicated to Luna.
“But Your Highness, you’re not seriously considering buying this thing, are you? Although its design may have been ambitious, the final product is just garbage. Apart from the firepower of the main gun, everything else about it, including its agility and safety measures, are extremely underwhelming. Even the most basic space battle suits, let alone warships, can easily destroy it,” Luna depreciated its worth. Indeed, it was worth less than the paper it was printed on.
“If we don’t buy it, how can we justify attacking them? It’s just money, isn’t it? Savings aren’t exactly my current concern. While I don’t precisely know how much I have stored with Zero, to me, star credits just represent a figure,” Finn replied straightforwardly. Truthfully, he didn’t care about such issues. Finn’s main power resided elsewhere now.
Specifically, it was the resource planet he had bought at the Death Star. Although it wasn’t premium grade, Icarus’ Insect Species had already begun their extensive development efforts on it. According to the most recent estimates, the entire planet would be exploited and depleted within a month. Consequently, Finn would receive his first artifact from his Insect Species units, a Leviathan with star-jumping capabilities.
Therefore, Finn wasn’t particularly concerned about his interstellar units, as his primary forces would undoubtedly consist of insect units. If not for their overpowering presence, which, if exposed now, would potentially provoke the entire intelligent civilization to unite against him, Finn wouldn’t hesitate to reveal his insect units.
“Very well, Your Highness, the decision is yours,” Luna said without adding any further arguments, as she merely provided advice fitting to Finn’s predicaments.
After learning the origin of the fat man, Mike, Finn’s smile grew wider. He asked quickly, “I like this very much, it’s indeed fascinating. What is the price for this object?”
“Your Highness,” Marlon Murray started saying from the side, unable to hold back. Frankly, during the preceding session, Marlon had barely been able to concentrate. He had been occupied with his dilemma; whether he should attach himself genuinely to Finn, being content with small profits, or be wholly loyal to him?
This was a question. After ruminating throughout a whole session, Marlon reached a decision. Although he appeared to be unremarkable now, Marlon had always been a deep thinker. If he chose not to stick with Finn, Marlon’s career was essentially finished. His decision was therefore satisfactory. But by remaining with Finn, he could at least hope for a brighter future.
After all, wasn’t Finn from a family with nine-star royalty? Although the nine major clans were prestigious, they were only eight-star royalty, and could never achieve nine-star status. In contrast, Finn was the only nine-star royalty, and though he had only recently inherited his family’s assets, he must have had some hidden cards, right? Thus, after suffering inner turmoil throughout one session, Marlon finally made his decision. Since he had decided to become Finn’s subordinate, he pledged to serve to his utmost capability; it was now his time to shine.
“Yes, what’s the matter?” Finn turned to look at Marlon and asked. Unlike Finn, Marlon was an experienced hand around here and knew who had what kinds of relationships with whom. If Marlon attempted to stop this transaction, he wouldn’t care about offending Mike, but he would certainly provoke the Rochefort family.
The outcome for a common aristocratic family who offended the Rochefort clan was a foregone conclusion. So, Finn never expected Marlon to intervene. He had been surprised when Marlon had voiced his concerns when Albin was present, and now he didn’t know what Marlon wanted to say.
“Your Highness, this object is completely impractical. It’s pure junk. This object lacks crucial defensive capabilities and manoeuvrability in space. The main gun might possess significant firepower, but it’s not a heat-seeking space missile or torpedo. This object is useless unless it hits its target. Your Highness, even purchasing a few less potent battleships would be more beneficial than this,” Marlon said quickly.
