Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic

Chapter 178 Disposable Sunlight Gun

Chapter 178 Disposable Sunlight Gun

Miss Beyas, although young, really had an unusually keen intuition, which could also be considered a kind of talent.

Before leaving No. 6, Saint Delan Square, Miss Beyas thought she had been cooling herself off at Shard's place today, so she wanted to give something in return. Shard initially thought she was joking, but she was serious:

"This is for you."

The female sorcerer, with her brown long hair, took a small pure gold sun-patterned brooch from her brown checkered lady's handbag, on which was the holy emblem of the Lantern Bearer.

Shard initially thought it was some kind of decorative item, but upon touching it, he immediately got a prompt:

"You have touched a 'Miracle'."

"Oh?"

"Detective, can you actually sense that this is no ordinary item? That's quite impressive…"

As their work had ended, Miss Beyas was sitting on the sofa talking to Shard, with a somewhat proud tone, she introduced:

"This is an alchemical item I crafted myself. Holding the holy emblem praises our lord, the Lantern Bearer, it doesn't require using Spirit and can be used once to summon the 'Sunlight Gun' I used last time. It can certainly deal with any Circle Sorcerer below the Four Rings, this is for your self-defense."

Miss Beyas was very humble, trying hard to suppress the pride in her tone and the smile on her face.

"A one-time-use Sunlight Gun? For me?"

Shard looked surprisedly at the girl sitting opposite him, then inspected the brooch up and down without needing to think twice, knowing it was the most powerful alchemical item he had ever seen in this world.

This kind of alchemical item, from the common knowledge he understood, was definitely not something an ordinary Circle Sorcerer could craft, this must be the power of a "Chosen One of Balance". If Shard had such a technique, he would no longer toil over detective commissions.

Miss Beyas said with a smile:

"Of course it's for you, but don't use it recklessly, if the church finds out that a non-believer used the 'Sunlight Gun', you might be in big trouble."

"Silvermoon Slash" was powerful, but limited by the fact that Shard only had the First Ring, its strength was still no match for the "Sunlight Gun", so if this really was given to Shard, without burning Divinity, and the enemy not erratically using the "Spear of Kindness", this would be his most powerful move at the moment.

"Is it really for me?"

He asked Miss Beyas again, although he wanted the item, he didn't think his actions deserved such a repayment from Miss Beyas.

"Of course it's for you, Detective, you're still too weak."

She shook her head slightly:

"Tobesk Parish is so dangerous, even though you have your friends to help, I'm still worried about you. Detective, I really do consider you my friend."

Shard's lips moved slightly, but he didn't know what to say.

"You have great talent and a good character, and you have passed my four questions test. Last night, you didn't greedily take away relics that didn't belong to you, that says a lot about you... Speaking of which, I have many secrets."

The young girl leaned back against the sofa, slightly tilting her head up to look at the ceiling:

"They tell me I am the chosen one, the one selected by fate, but they refuse to elaborate on what it exactly means. Yet I understand that I am bound to experience an abundance of things in the future, so, I need friends, someone like you whom I can trust to aid me. Detective, take this as an advance on your future assistance," she said.

She pushed the brooch previously placed on the coffee table by Shard towards him:

"Although it was quite costly and troublesome to make, I think you might need it."

Shard sat there, watching the seventeen-year-old girl smile at him.

While he felt joy, fear predominated. He now just wanted to find Miss Annette immediately and have her disclose their identities to Miss Beyas. Otherwise, should Miss Beyas discover Shard's ulterior motives during this period, he dreaded to think how she might react...

"But surely it won't come to a Sunlight Gun."

He muttered to himself internally, then heard her gently laugh in his ear.

After Miss Beyas had left, nothing else occurred that day. Shard hoped the black-haired maid would knock on the downstairs door, bringing the White Stone Crystal and the Relic, and telling him what needed to be done, but no one came even until he went to bed at night.

On Wednesday morning, as Shard went downstairs to fetch the newspaper and goat milk, he received a letter mailed by Priest Augustus. The letter mentioned that Priest had prepared the Magic Potion "The Price of Growth" and its necessary ingredients. He asked Shard to come to the Dawn Chapel before ten o'clock that morning.

"Before ten... Today, I also need to investigate that lawyer, so I should visit the Priest early," he thought.

The Dawn Chapel was also near the city center, not too far from Saint Delan Square. When Shard arrived near Dawn Square at seven thirty in the morning, the chapel was already bustling with people going in and out.

It was the tenth day of the Thunder Moon, and the Holy Prayer Day at Dawn Church was drawing nearer. In the square, festival decorations were being set up, and people were seen cleaning the chapel's walls and wiping the windows on ladders.

The religion of the True God "Mr. Dawn," which is part of the Church of the Five Gods, held considerable sway according to what Shard had learned from the Old Cleric. Around fifteen percent of Tobesk Parish's total population worshiped this True God.

That was no small number; after all, not everyone worships the True God. Excluding the cultists, the Old Gods who have disappeared from this age still have their devout followers.

The morning was somewhat foggy again, but the mist wasn't particularly thick.

The Priest had written in his letter for Shard to meet him directly inside the church, but just as Shard arrived at the entrance, not even having stepped onto the majestic stone stairs yet, he saw Priest Augustus talking to an elderly man with graying hair, who looked even older than Priest Augustus.

The slightly unfamiliar old man was wearing a robe slightly different from that of Priest Augustus, adorned with a brass Holy Emblem on the chest, featuring a circle with a missing segment. He had a slightly heavier build than Priest Augustus but was about the same height as Shard.

This was probably an important figure in Dawn Chapel because each believer respectfully nodded as they passed him by.

"He's likely not a Priest, but what level of clergy could he be?" Shard wondered to himself as he walked over. He initially didn't want to interrupt the two, but Priest Augustus surprisingly called him over and introduced him:

"Detective, this is Bishop Kanas Owen of the Dawn Church's Tobesk Parish Church. Kanas, this is the promising young man I've mentioned to you."

Priest Augustus directly addressed the old man by name, indicating their relationship was quite good.

Shard hadn't expected to meet such an important figure so easily at the church entrance that morning, and so he courteously greeted him with a good morning.

Church of the True God mandated that only ordinary people could serve as bishops, so since Bishop Owen was not a Circle Sorcerer, Shard didn't have to be overly cautious in dealing with him.
