?

"Bring that carriage back up and get those herbs lit again!"

We couldn't even celebrate the killing of this strong monster since another let loose a far deeper, far more menacing roar from somewhere nearby, causing Anput and I to scramble over to where she had buried the carriage so that we could hopefully keep that monster away.

As we did so, Lilith just chuckled softly at Lady Fenyras' haste to get that herb lit again, the black Demoness grinning from the side as she said "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that monster is too close and too strong to give a damn about some herbs. Still, do get them burning; the others are far enough away to be dissuaded from coming here."

Having a bomb like that dropped right at our feet made us all freeze for a moment as dread washed over us; yes, we took care of the tiger with relative ease, but if something stronger than that was coming and it was that close, could we take it down before it dealt any damage at all?

But there was nothing to be gained by just worrying, so Anput unearthed the carriage and I began to rummage through it to find the incense jar alongside the bag of herbs that we needed to burn, all while the others prepared for whatever it was to appear.

The area we were in was so unique too, making this all the more fascinating when I looked at it from a detached point of view; the white quartz desert behind us was still stuck inside of that windstorm, and yet we were only experiencing a light breeze that simply caressed your skin and cooled you off a little.

I could see the wind just a few feet away from me tearing through the various crystals and cracking some of them off, and yet I only felt a gentle breeze that wouldn't be out of place on a normal summer day; with the sunshine bathing the amethyst jungle in a resplendent radiance that sent purple light everywhere it felt even more magical.

Just like the way the black furred ape that smashed two trees into splinters as it made its way into our clearing looked magical with a gigantic crystal lodged straight through its chest, the amethyst geode pulsing to the monster's heartbeat.

Mana rippled off of that geode like electricity, running across the ape's fur and causing it to turn dark purple as the monster stared us all down, its two normal eyes glowing with anger whilst the giant red eye nestled between its brows widened completely, revealing the mana that was within that as well.

It's fangs were sparking with mana too, and as it trudged out of the jungle it let loose another roar that shook the earth, almost sending the incense urn tumbling out of my hands as my bones trembled inside of my flesh, making me wince at the dull ache that followed.

Smacking both of its fists - which were the same size as the carriage we had be pulling with us - into the geode, the ape drew the mana from the amethyst and wreathed its fists in purple electricity, causing the air around them to shimmer as the heat produced became amplified. Another bellow preluded the first attack, and while we were rattled again by just the monster's vocals we were still capable of reacting, though there wasn't much we were willing to do as it slammed the ground and created a deep crater with just its first blow.

Lightning tore through the earth as it raced towards us, while the rocks below quivered and broke, removing the stability that made fighting 'easy' and forcing us to seek new ground as we dodged the monster's attack.

Thankfully it targeted the cluster of melee attackers first, giving Anput and I time to move away from the carriage and hopefully take it out of the monster's list of targets as we instead began to support the others from afar, with the Jackalkin attempting to stabilize the ground before the monster pounded it again.

Each bolt of lightning left fires in their wake as it raced for Lady Fenyras, Mom and Jahi, but the three of them reacted fast enough to avoid the worst of it as they leapt to the side, drawing another roar from the ape as it made its frustrations known.

When a glacial gale rushed through the air and slammed into the ape's chest, the monster snarled as it felt its fur stiffen before being cracked off when it smacked the crystal again, rejuvenating its body with heat and warding the cold away.

However enough 'damage' was done as a large patch of skin was revealed to us, the thick blue veins that traveled towards the geode giving me enough confidence to declare that the geode was a Core of some kind to the monster, which meant damaging it might impair the monster's magical abilities.

A theory that was about to be put to the test right away as multiple spells hurtled towards the geode, my arrows, Leone's explosive fireball, Lilith's various spells and even Anput's heavy lance all being amplified by Draka's winds as she pushed everything forwards.

Crossing its arms and attempting to block all of that, the ape towered over us and barely moved an inch even after all of those spells collided with its thick arms, but when the three melee fighters used that opportunity to close the gap between them it suddenly found itself bleeding profusely from its legs.

Much like the tiger it had thick fur that could defend against the blades to a large degree, but the mana enhanced attacked eventually managed to penetrate said defenses and found the flesh beneath, scoring the first wound of the fight in an unceremonious way.

Damage was damage though, and as the monster tried to smash the two Demonesses and the Demon Wolf at its feet it revealed that geode again, allowing another barrage of spells to slip past its guard, all while its targets retreated immediately.
