Chapter 1025
After paying the sum of 70.000 high-grade spirit stones, the rest of the procedure was relatively simple. The rules of Amber Dawn made things extremely convenient for anyone who wished to stay in the city long term, lacking any of the unnecessary hassle those larger cities had newcomers go through.
After registering 'Han Long' as the new owner of the lot and verifying that he wasn't connected to any of the major powers in the central region -at least those that operated in the light that was- the young guard guided Shun Long and his group to the gates of the city guard headquarters.
''Senior Han, despite the rumors that may circulate around here, Amber Dawn is actually a very safe place. Our city guard heavily patrols the streets at all times making sure that it's one of the safest cities in the entire central region, so that more alchemists like you can hopefully migrate here.
However, if you end up facing any problems whatsoever, our city guard will make sure to help you resolve them in a fair and adequate manner, so feel free to come and ask us for help whenever you need it.''
Looking at the solemn young guard in front of him, Shun Long smiled and cupped his hands indicating he understood, before he turned around and bade the man farewell, his left hand waving in the air.
Of course, Shun Long could tell how serious the guard had been with his last sentence, taking a completely different approach after he had spent 70.000 high-grade spirit stones to buy that lot. Clearly, any fears he might have had of Shun Long being connected to any of the assassin guilds had vanished into thin air right then and there.
After all, who would spend such an astronomical amount of high-grade spirit stones for a place they weren't planning to use? Even for a 1-star alchemist, 70.000 high-grade spirit stones weren't an amount they could easily part with.
..
As they walked through the streets of Amber Dawn, Shun Long took in everything around him in complete silence, looking like an emotionless old man who was out for a stroll.
As expected, the city lacked any decent forges or alchemy shops but more than made up for it with the number of merchant caravans and established trading vendors who could be found in every corner of the city.
A few gold-grade alchemists or formation masters could be spotted every now and then too, but every one of them appeared to be working for one of those trading vendors rather than being individuals with their own shops.
As for star-rank formation masters or alchemists? Shun Long had failed to spot even a single one so far.
Of course, it wasn't like Shun Long believed that there weren't any in Amber Dawn, but most likely they all worked for the major powers that ruled the city instead!
Whether it was the city guard headquarters, the numerous trading vendors, or even the infamous assassin guilds, Shun Long didn't believe for a moment that they didn't have any star-rank formation masters or alchemists in their midst. However, failing to see any such shops around the city showed how dire the situation in Amber Dawn truly was.
Nevertheless, contrary to what he originally expected to see, the population of Amber Dawn wasn't that of a ghost city. In fact, the number of people wandering through the streets were comparable to Zhong city's, one of the most bustling cities in the entire northern region of the continent!
Of course, whether those people were part of the 3 major factions, or if they belonged to any of the smaller powers vying for power was still unknown, but at the very least the situation of the city wasn't that hopeless.
With the same apathetic expression adorning his disguise, Shun Long headed deeper in the heart of the city where his shop was supposed to be located. It only took him a quarter of an hour walking from the headquarters of the city guard, until he finally arrived in front of what seemed to be a wooden 3-story building.
The building was... 'modest' at first glance and seemed to be made entirely out of wood, but despite its frail appearance, it actually stood tall without a single speck of dust on it.
It was clear that the numerous protective formations around it had kept it clean even without anyone taking care of it.
Finally, as their group stopped in front of it, the chubby Fu Li couldn't help but glance at his old friend in the lead, before he asked in a low voice that only those around him could hear
''Brother, was it really worth paying such a huge price for this place? It's not bad but there were places much cheaper than this, so why spend 70.000 high-grade spirit stones for it? Even if we bought a place in the outskirts, our shop would still thrive there!''
As a scion of the Fu family, Fu Li had been well-versed in business since he was a kid, so he could only wince at Shun Long's decision to buy this place for such an astronomical price.
As someone who knew everything about his friend's plan, the chubby young man couldn't see how such a decision was better compared to opening a shop in the outskirts for a tenth of the price they had paid.
In the end, with how starved the city was for good alchemists, it was only a matter of time before people began visiting their shop to see what it's all about, so the location was largely irrelevant.
Looking at the half-vexed and half-curious Fu Li, Shun Long's apathetic facade finally cracked revealing a slight smile, as he looked at his friend and answered
''If our goal was to just open up a shop we could indeed do that in the outskirts. However, being in the heart of a city has its own advantages too. At the very least, not having to worry about the city guard is worth more than just those 70.000 high-grade spirit stones.''
As he finished speaking, Shun Long's gaze gradually turned serious as he thought of the obstacles he'd have to deal with from now on.
The city guard was one thing, and despite being -potentially- the most powerful entity in Amber Dawn, paired with the support of the city lord, it wasn't going to be his biggest obstacle. The assassin guilds were a much more serious threat but Shun Long already had a plan for those. As long as things went accordingly, it was only a matter of time before he annexed them too. As for the already established trading vendors like the branch of the 'White Tiger chamber of commerce' and the others within the city, those may prove to be a bit of a problem but they weren't Shun Long's biggest concern.
Instead, it was the information he had received right before entering the 'Northern Sovereign's city' that made him narrow his eyes dangerously, a hint of killing intent flickering inside them.
It was the cultivators from the 'Immortal Dimension' that had appeared in the central continent during the past year!
