Chapter 1023 City of Amber Dawn

''Senior Qin, is something wrong?''

The Dao Emperor operating the teleportation formation seemed to have sensed the sudden change within the hall as soon as the seated young man opened his eyes. It was almost as if the temperature had suddenly dropped by a few degrees at that very moment, causing even the nearby Dao Emperors who were guarding the area in secret to go tense.

The young Sovereign was now staring at the spot where Shun Long stood just a few moments ago with a pondering expression on his face, before he eventually shook his head and answered dismissively

''No, nothing's wrong. I was just a bit curious about that old man, that's all.''

''Senior Qin was... curious?'' The middle-aged Dao Emperor couldn't help but ask almost instinctively as he stared at the seated young man with wide-open eyes.

Was there someone in that group that warranted Qin Xiaobo's attention?

Other people may not understand what was going on, but those who were familiar with Qin Xiaobo knew what those words meant.

After all, how many cultivators passed through the teleportation formation every day to travel around the continent? Despite the exorbitant cost the city guard imposed, there were more than a thousand cultivators every day who chose to pay to travel using the formation. And yet, how many of those people could ever attract Qin Xiaobo's attention? Unless one had some particularly remarkable qualities, the young Sovereign wouldn't even glance at them let alone mention that he was curious about that person.

Unfortunately for the middle-aged Dao Emperor, Qin Xiaobo wasn't one to share his thoughts that openly, causing the vast hall to fall silent once again.

...

At the same time, traveling through the teleportation formation, Shun Long could feel the space around him trembling and twisting as his comprehension of the 'Dao of Space' continued to increase at a tremendous speed.

Right before disappearing from the hall, Shun Long had felt Qin Xiaobo's gaze landing on him too, but just like the young Sovereign, Shun Long didn't say anything either and simply focused on progressing his insights and bringing his comprehension of the Dao of Space to the peak of the Dao King realm.

..

Unfortunately, the elusive feeling of spatial fluctuations only lasted for a single day before Shun Long and the others were thrown out of their reverie. Their blurry surroundings had turned solid once more as they found themselves in the heart of a large, half-empty room.

''Ehh? Are we out? Thank the gods!'' The first one to speak was Fu Li, as the chubby young man inspected his surroundings with a relieved look on his face. Clearly, being trapped in a spatial rift for an entire day with no control over his own body wasn't a pleasant experience for anyone who experienced it for the first time.

Lan Jinjing was no different either as the young girl let out a quiet sigh of relief before she turned to look at Liu Mei and the others.

To her surprise however, neither Liu Mei nor anyone else in their group other than her and Fu Li seemed to show any discomfort. It was almost as if everyone had done this numerous times by now and had already gotten used to it.

Shun Long was the only one who had yet to open his eyes at the moment. His appearance was still that of a sickly old man, and by how still he stood, it was easy for someone to mistake him for a corpse.

Right now, he could still hear the discussions around him but his mind was fully focused on the feeling of spatial fluctuations that still lingered on his body, albeit just faintly.

In the next moment however, his focus was suddenly broken as a deep male voice entered his ears, causing him to finally open his eyes as well

''Fellow daoists, welcome to the city of Amber Dawn! Is this your first time here?'' The speaker was a young man in his mid-twenties whose entire body was fully covered in bronze armor.

He approached their group with slow, measured footsteps, stopping just a few meters before Jiang Chen and the rest.

As he opened his eyes, the first thing Shun Long saw was the young man 'examining' everyone in the group, before his gaze gradually nestled on him.

His gaze lingered on Jiang Chen and Bai Longtian for a few seconds longer, but in the end, the youth completely ignored them and focused entirely on Shun Long whose aura was completely retracted, making him seem like a mere mortal.

At the same time, Shun Long glanced at the youth as well before his lips curved upwards ever-so-slightly.

Just like Liu Mei and the others, the bronze-armored youth was also a peak-stage Dao King, and judging from the aura coming from his body he wasn't an ordinary Dao King either.

Although he was far below the level of geniuses who entered the 'Heavenly Tower' back in the City of Immortals, it was obvious that this person was definitely stronger than the average peak rank 9 Dao King.

Still, if he was planning to fight Jiang Chen and the rest, it was obvious that he wouldn't even last more than 3 exchanges before he lost his life.

Nodding his head, Shun Long cupped his hands at the young man and said with a smile

''Indeed, this is our first time here. We just came from the northern region and have yet to settle down.''

''Settle down? Here?'' The young man seemed to have picked up the hint as he looked at Shun Long with clear-cut surprise.

These people were planning to settle down... in Amber Dawn?

Who would willingly come to this place to 'settle down'?

After all, other than those infamous assassin guilds, there wasn't much else to do in this place! If someone was really looking to settle down, they should go to one of the nearby cities at the very least.

To the young guard's surprise however, the old man in front of him merely nodded his head and continued calmly

''That's right. I'm planning to open up a shop.''
