?

"Wait... seriously?"

Reading that the targets for their mission were high-ranking figures of the two opposing races, Valyr blinked a few times to check if he was hallucinating or not, only to then shift his gaze back to Hal in disbelief.

"I'll explain more about it later." Of course, the man was already expecting Valyr to react that way, prompting him to give the latter a slightly bitter smile in return as he sent another message.

"For now, let's head to a place where we'd be able to discuss the mission more thoroughly."

At those words, Valyr nodded in understanding, which made Hal faintly smile back at him in return.

However, considering that the two had been exchanging messages between them all this time, it went without saying that Vera and the others looked at them in confusion by the time they were done.

But then again, it wasn't as if they were completely in the dark.

"What did the two of you talk about?" asked Vera, prompting the two people behind her to move a bit closer towards Hal and Valyr.

"Just gave our friend Ylvar here a bit more information on the mission we'll be tackling," said Hal in response, already expecting such a question to arise from the three of them. "After all, the four of us already have an idea of it beforehand."

"I see." Although Vera had a feeling that Hal gave Valyr far more information than the three of them did the first time they received a small briefing on the mission, the young woman decided to push the thought to the side.

After all, if combat power were to be taken into consideration, Valyr might just have the greatest combat power out of all of them in the War Squad.

And that was also including the fact that their skills had grown thanks to them constantly fighting in the battlefield.

With that, even though the two people accompanying Vera were greatly curious as to what specific information Hal had shared with the young man joining them all of a sudden, the five of them did not discuss the topic any further as they agreed to leave the military base as soon as possible.

Whoosh!

Activating their own respective movement skills, the five moved around the east defensive line at the fastest speed they could muster, making sure that neither the orcs nor the elves would be able to track them along the way.

Fortunately, with both Hal and Valyr's movement skills giving them the ability to carry more people with them, a quick movement buff from Vera was more than enough for them to fly above the orcs and elves' senses, giving them the freedom to whiz through the air at great speeds.

Swoosh!

With that, it only took an hour for the five to arrive at a forest clearing situated just 50 kilometers away from the east defensive line.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

Allowing the two other people in their group to first alight from his movement skill, Valyr briefly glanced at Hal, who nodded at him, before nodding back.

"Well, then." Conjuring a large barrier around them to make sure no one could eavesdrop on their conversation, the man took a step forward as he glanced at the four.

"Let's talk about the mission, shall we?"

Hearing those words, Valyr, Vera, and the other two immediately focused their attention on him, prompting Hal to let out a slight chuckle before nodding in understanding.

"I'm sure all of us already have a rough idea of the mission that's been given to us," said the man after briefly taking in a deep breath. "A Crimson Mercenary-rank assassination mission." Everyone nodded at those words.

"However, what I've yet to discuss are our targets for the mission," continued the man, causing Vera and the other two to lean a bit closer. "Of course, as one of the hardest missions that could be possibly given to us, the targets are no slouches."

"With that being said, our targets are the Grand Chieftain of the Khagarax Empire, and the High Sovereign of the Ala'ina Empire."

"What?!" Unsurprisingly, just like how Valyr reacted, Vera and the other two also reacted the same way the moment they heard those words.

"You're not joking, right?" asked one of the two, a platinum-haired man in his late twenties. "The Grand Chieftain AND the High Sovereign?"

"I have no reason to joke around, Harold," replied Hal, his expression serious. "After all, this information has been verified multiple times before coming to me."

"But that's the Grand Chieftain and High Sovereign we're talking about!" replied the other one, a demure-looking woman with long blonde hair.

"I know our War Squad is strong enough to deal with missions made for Crimson Mercenaries, but even that's a bit too much!"

Valyr faintly nodded at those words, feeling as if the woman was speaking for everyone else on their behalf.

Then again, it wasn't as if their shock and disbelief over the targets of the mission weren't unfounded.

Considering the fact that there were only two empires under the Khael'gazar-i Sovereignty, becoming the Grand Chieftain allowing one to stand at the third highest spot of the hierarchy, with the position only being below the two emperors and the sole sovereign.

Because of how high in the hierarchy being a Grand Chieftain was, it only made sense that becoming one first needed one to not only have an immense amount of knowledge over the land they ruled, but also an immense amount of strength to thwart any sort of plans that might target them.

Naturally, the same could be said for the High Sovereign of the elves, with the requirements being similar to what one needed to become a Grand Chieftain of the orcs. In fact, their position in the hierarchy was also the same.

However, unlike the orcs, there was only one empire under the Lumiella Sovereignty, which meant that a High Sovereign technically wielded more power than a Grand Chieftain could in

their own race.

But as the two of them were designated as targets for a Crimson Mercenary-rank mission that focused on assassinating them, the fact that they wielded that much power over their respective races only had a slight influence on the mission's overall difficulty.

If anything, it was the individual strength they wielded that contributed to it the most.

With that in mind, Valyr asked Hal more about it. "How strong are they? Also, where are they located?"

"The Grand Chieftain is early Rank 6, while the High Sovereign is considered to be near middle Rank 6," Hal replied, his gaze thanking Valyr for pushing the topic onward.

"As for their location, the High Sovereign is a bit difficult to get to at the moment." "On the other hand, the Grand Chieftain is actually at a spot that we could aim for at any time."

"Where's the Grand Chieftain, then?" Keeping the targets' strengths in mind, Valyr inquired Hal for more information.

"Well..." However, Hal merely looked at the young man with a smile. "Since we're near the east defensive line, where do you think he'd be?"

"The rear...?" murmured Vera after a bit of silence, having already accepted the fact that they seemed to have no choice but to see the mission till the bitter end. "Are you telling us that... he's at the rear of the east defensive line?"

"He isn't really at the rear, but you're close." Hal nodded, giving her a wry smile. "To be more specific, he's near the center of the east defensive line, leading the greatest offensive the orcs have mustered up behind the scenes."

"And the High Sovereign?" asked the demure-looking woman, having also accepted their

current fate.

"Back at the Ala'ina Empire," replied Hal as his smile turned somewhat bitter. "Fortunately, the military hasn't given us any deadline on when she should be gone."

"Though, I can't really say the same thing for the Grand Chieftain."

"Let me guess..." Valyr immediately had a bad feeling the moment he heard Hal's words.

"Tomorrow?"

Hal nodded in response to his question, giving the young man all the confirmation he needed.

"Tomorrow?" Harold began to complain. "Does the military really think we could kill

someone like the Grand Chieftain in just a day?"

"They don't." Hal shook his head as the smile on his face turned more bitter. "We aren't the

only War Squad that has been given the mission to kill those two."

"What would we get if we were the ones to do it, then?" asked Valyr, having already read

between the lines of Hal's words.

"You're really making my decision of having you join us more worth it than ever before," said Hal with a chuckle, only to then take in a deep breath as his expression became solemn once

more.

"According to what the military told me, if our War Squad is the one to kill the Grand Chieftain before the others, the military would not only unconditionally raise our current ranks to Crimson Mercenary..."

"But they'd also spare no effort in supporting us up to the peak of Rank 5."

"By support, you mean?" asked the demure-looking woman with a slightly raised eyebrow. "Everything. XP, skills, equipment, stats, titles, and even the comprehension of Intent to the highest grade. They'll help us fortify our foundations as much as possible.

"... Is that so?" Although he didn't really need any of the other things Hal mentioned, the fact

that the military would help improve their comprehension of Intent certainly piqued his

interest.

With that, he decided to show one of his cards.

"I suppose I'd be able to help with that, then."

"[Phases of the Azure Primacy]."

"[Traceless]."
