Chapter 759: Chapter 759: Integration of Skills

Players from the same camp killing each other is a rare event, with almost no chance of dropping anything. Kill dozens of players in your own camp, and you’ll probably get nothing for it.

But the drop rate increases dramatically when players of different camps kill each other. Song Jian had only killed five players from a different camp, and there was already a drop from one of them – the strongest one in the group.

Picking up the drop from the Soul Ripper player, Song Jian frowns. It isn’t equipment this guy dropped; it’s a skill scroll. This isn’t common – a drop like that is less likely than equipment drop.

But of all the potential drops, skill drops are the least popular. That’s because the dropped skills are all class-restricted; players of a different class cannot use them.

The dropped skill scroll contained Soul Ripper’s core skill; Soul Wander.

Skill Scroll – Soul Wander: Gold quality. Effect after use: Acquire the skill Soul Wander. Only players of the Soul Ripper class can learn this.

Soul Wander: Level 1, Instant cast. Skill effect: User enters a special 2D space. All damage except space spells is negated and the user’s movement speed increases by 50%. This effect lasts three seconds. After three seconds, the user returns to their own space. Skill Cooldown: 5 minutes. Spirit Points consumption: 30.

This skill is incredible. Even at level 1, it’s tantalizing. It essentially makes you invincible for three seconds, with the only potential for harm being from powerful space spells – something that Song Jian has not seen any player or NPC capable of casting so far.

It also boosts your speed. Whether you use it to pursue opponents or escape from enemies, this skill is a razor-sharp tool. Too bad it’s only for the Soul Ripper class. Even if Song Jian gets the scroll, he cannot use it. Worst of all, he’s misaligned with the Abyss, the class that produced the Soul Ripper – this scroll would only end up as dust collector on the bottom shelf of his inventory.

“Such a pity!” Song Jian sighs. As he’s about to put the skill scroll back in his inventory, he sees the Book of Fusion. A lightbulb goes off above his head.

The Book of Fusion can blend two skills into one. At worst, it will boost the proficiency of the main skill. But does it work with skill scrolls?

Lost in thought, Song Jian takes out his Book of Fusion and opens his skill list for a detailed check.

If fusion’s possible, the closer the two skills are, the better, or else there’s a large probability that only the main skill proficiency will increase.

Technically speaking, Soul Wander is a movement skill. Among the skill he possesses, the only other movement skill is Sword Shadow Step.

He sets Sword Shadow Step as the main skill, then puts the Soul Wander skill scroll into the secondary skill box. Unexpectedly, it fits, and the previously grayed-out “fusion” button lights up. Instantly, Song Jian’s face reveals a surprised joy.

System: Do you want to fuse these two skills?

Fuse! Song Jian clicks the “fuse” button and a Tai Chi symbol appears on the fusion interface with the two skills rotating in the positions of the yin-yang fish eyes.

In no time, a dazzling golden light emerges from the Book of Fusion. A skill box is left where two stood.

System: Skill fusion successful. Please name your new skill!

“Successful! And it fused into a new skill!” Song Jian bursts into laughter at this development. There are three outcomes to skill fusion: increased skill proficiency, skill variation, and new skill fusion – the latter being the best outcome of the three.

Skill: Unnamed (Active), Level 1, Instant cast. Skill effect: After activation, the player instantly becomes a ghost, immune from all damages. This effect lasts for 1 second. Meanwhile, movement speed increases by 30%, with the ability to go through any obstacles. After 1 second, the invincible status fades but the user only sustains damage from soul attacks. Skill duration: 3 seconds. Spirit Points consumption: 15. Skill cooldown: 5 minutes. Usage restriction: User Song Jian.

Reading the skill description, Song Jian can’t suppress the gleeful expression on his face. This skill is far more powerful than either Sword Shadow Step or Soul Wander. Perhaps only the core skill of the Thief class, Gale Step, could rival it.

Though if truth were told, this skill is more powerful than Gale Step. After all, aside from being invincible for a second after activation, Gale Step cannot experience any type of attack, and it cannot pass through obstacles.

However, Gale Step does increase movement speed faster, if limitedly so.

“An exclusive skill! A golden quality exclusive skill, haha!” Upon seeing the usage restriction at the end of the skill description, Song Jian couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Exclusive skills were once a legend – skills tailored for the user. Song Jian thought it was a rumor. Who knew the day would come when he had his own exclusive skill.

After great deliberation, Song Jian, who suffered from a chronic inability to name things, ultimately decides to name this skill “Soul Wander”.

Just as Song Jian is about to close his skill interface, after putting the Book of Fusion away, he discovers that the plus sign next to Soul Wander is lit up.

You should know, the plus sign on all skills is grayed out when the proficiency value doesn’t reach 100%. When the proficiency value reaches 100%, the plus sign lights up. At this point, spending a skill point will upgrade the skill by one level, reset the proficiency value, and the plus sign would darken again.

Song Jian had only previously encountered the situation of a newly learned skill’s plus sign lighting up during the double S world trial of the first tier combat power assessment.

With this thought in mind, Song Jian couldn’t resist clicking on the lit plus sign next to Soul Wander. Surprisingly, it really spent one skill point and upgraded Soul Wander to level 2.

This was literally an unexpected windfall. Song Jian now had eleven skill points saved up, and he promptly used all of them on this skill.

Finally, the Soul Wander skill was upgraded to level 12 – the level cap for this skill – and all the skill points Song Jian had earned from the first tier combat power assessment had been exhausted.

The attributes of the skill had greatly enhanced by now and it was another deadly weapon in Song Jian’s arsenal.
