Chapter 1095: Luck running out

Chapter 1095: Luck running out

1095  Chapter 1095: Luck running out

"Hmm?" The young lord had just entered the room when he heard something fall to the floor nearby.

Turning toward the source of the noise, he saw two people frozen in disbelief, like statues. They were already shivering in fear.

They were carrying an armful of treasures, which kept slipping from their trembling hands.

They had thought that Karyk had killed everyone in the city. This, they assumed, gave them an opportunity to loot the city's treasures and escape.

None of them had imagined that anyone was still alive. Moreover, it was the worst person possible; the Lord of the City, the one who had founded it. Though he was often absent, the guards knew his identity.

This place was his home. Had they known he was alive, they would never have dared to set foot inside.

They were heavily regretting their decision of stepping foot inside this building. Just where did they get this courage? They were cursing themselves for this foolishness.

Until a few moments ago, they had been overjoyed, believing the treasures they found might help them escape this nightmarish world. Now, their joy had turned into a nightmare itself.

Meanwhile, the young time lord was also looking at them in confusion. He didn't recognize them. He didn't know their identity. The one thing he knew was that they were not Aetherians.

"Are you from this city?" he asked the two people, who felt quite weak at first glance. He wasn't sure if they were sent by Karyk, or they had another reason to be here.

The two guards immediately fell to their knees, slamming their head on the ground so hard that their heads started bleeding.

"W-we are sorry! We didn't know that you were still alive! If we had known-"

"Ah, I see what's going on." The young man didn't wait for them to finish their sentence. He realized what was going on.

These people were the few survivors that were probably trying their luck by stealing treasures that they could find. It wasn't half bad. If everyone in the city was actually dead, then it was better to take the treasures than to let them rot here.

"Take whatever you were carrying, and scram before I change my mind," he told the two guards who were looking at him in disbelief.

Was he really telling them to take the treasures that they had already gathered? Or was this a trap?

If he was being genuine and they left the treasures behind, it was the same as offending him. But if it was a trap to see if they were honest people or not, then they were going to fall straight into that trap.

Their heads were filled with conflicting thoughts. In the end, one of them decided to shut off his mind and follow the instructions.

He picked up the treasures that he had dropped on the ground, and rushed out. The other watched him safely leave. He also followed suit and took the rest of the treasures on the ground and rushed out.

The young lord didn't pay any heed to them. The treasures that they were carrying were mostly useless for him in any case. All the treasures that were important to him, were with him after all.

There was another reason as to why he didn't kill the guards. He just didn't want to get his hands dirty with their lives. Hence, even if something was stolen from his house, he didn't lift a single finger to stop them.

"They survived inside the city, even when that devil killed everyone here. Did he also let them go because he was too lazy to deal with the insignificant ones? So far, they have been quite lucky to survive."

"What a pity, that after all this luck, they are still going to die before leaving the city." He didn't think much about it and entered his bedroom.

Just because he didn't kill them, didn't mean his followers weren't going to do it. Just like he was too lazy to kill them, he was too lazy to tell his followers to let them leave.

After entering his bedroom, he started taking off his clothes and entered the shower. After fifty straight days of suffering through the same cycle, finally he was going to see a new day.

After a long and satisfying shower, he left his room. He dressed up in his new clothes and left the building to take care of the Angel's corpse, which was one of the most important things in his quest to find Aether.

He reached the exit of the city, where his followers were standing. Not far from them, there were two lifeless bodies, belonging to the guards that had left his house.

Just as he had thought, their luck didn't last all the way. It was truly a pity, since they had survived coming across two of the most dangerous people in this world, only to die at the hands of weaker people.

"Why haven't you taken care of the bodies?" he asked his followers, who only now sensed his presence.

The followers quickly reached and started taking care of the bodies while moving the artefacts to the side, like they were some trash. They cleared the passage, letting the young man leave the city and approach the Angel.

The young time lord approached the angel's corpse and placed his palm on its body. Just like he could reverse time for himself, he could also see through the time that the corpse had experienced.

It consumed just as much of his life as the time reversal, but it was also his most important clue into the whereabouts of Aether. If he wasn't worried about getting attacked by Aetherians, he would have done it right where he found the body.

Only he knew how his patience was tested, to drag this body all the way here, waiting.

"Let me see what you have seen, in life, and in death. Let me see where the Aether is hiding!"
