Chapter 463 Zombie Challenge Event ( 6 )
Shane moved strategically, taking cover to avoid stray acid-like bursts that sometimes accompanied the Screamers' death.
It wasn't similar to the explosive deaths of Spitters, but the Screamer Zombies' flesh seemed to be corrupted as if he would catch a disease if he inhaled their odor a lot.
Well, since they were all infected by a virus that made them like this, it wasn't really that surprising.
Anyway, his shotgun provided additional support, blasting apart individual zombies that strayed too close.
By Level 24, the number of the Screamer Zombies had increased to twelve. Shane even used up a whole ammunition box.
He originally had ten boxes of ammunition, and five of them had all their shells upgraded. What he emptied just now were those unupgraded shotgun shells.
Anyway, he wasn't too worried about this since he still had other guns with their ammunition.
Nonetheless, Shane decided to just assist the Turret with his Silver Knives, which were controlled by his Telekinesis. He then used these Silver Knives to throw at the Screamer Zombies to distract them while the Turret did the heavy lifting.
Soon, Shane saw a total of fifteen Screamer Zombies appear opposite of him. Because of their positions, it became harder for the Turret to focus on clusters. Shane had to take this serious in order to properly protect the Turret.
"Alright, let's see how you handle this…" Shane muttered.
Then, as he was readying himself, Shane heard Cloud's report. Apparently, the A.I. just activated the Sentinel Mk-IV's Overdrive Mode. This mode could increase its firing rate and efficiency for a short duration.
Clink…Clink… Clink…
The Turret's barrel then spun rapidly… It was to the point that barrels started glowing red-hot as it fired bursts of energy bullets that sliced through Screamer Zombies like butter.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The Turret didn't even have to activate its incendiary bombs since the energy bullets were just more than enough to deal with them!
Previously, the 12 Screamer Zombies were able to work together and move about 30 meters. Just 10 meters away from Shane and the Turret.
However, as the Overdrive Mode was triggered, the 15 Screamer Zombies didn't even manage to teach 10 meters before being obliterated!
Just like that the level was immediately cleared.
"Whew~ That Overdrive was awesome, Cloud. Can you use it again on the next level?"
[ It requires at least 2 minutes of rest as long as I don't use the Incendiary Bombs during the Overdrive Mode. ]
"That's really fast…" Shane was impressed since he initially thought that it would take an hour or even longer before it could be used again.
Of course, although it could be used within 2 minutes, Shane didn't want to push it to its limit and informed Cloud not to use it again unless necessary.
Cloud acknowledged this and replied that it was simply trying it out to see how effective it was.
With this, Shane switched tactics, summoning more Silver Knights to throw out. Well, with his low rank Telekinesis, he could do complicated maneuvers, especially when he controls two or more things at the same time.
Considering this limitation, he could just throw them out in a straight line and use quantity to deal with the Zombies. Anyway, he had hundreds of these Silver Knives in his possession. They were supposedly items he planned to sell or use against the Vampires.
Soon, the Turret and Shane worked together perfectly and took out the Screamer Zombies in quick succession.
These Zombies were still able to attack with their soundwave, but despite these invisible attacks hitting them, Shane was able to endure them. He calmly used his Aura Sentinel to deflect any shockwave attacks and used Telekinesis to throw knives repeatedly.
He was basically dual-casting at this point, and it was consuming a lot of Spirit Points, but because he was unhurt, he didn't mind it.
'They're a lot tougher than I thought.' Shane mused as he hadn't expected to use this many Spirit Points. Nonetheless, this was a lot less when he dealt with the Spitter Zombies.
It was still acceptable.
By the end of the round, the battlefield was littered with the scattered flesh remains of Screamers.
By Level 26, Shane faced 19 Screamers. Their numbers and coordinated attacks had truly become a real threat.
The sonic waves created visible distortions in the air, causing cracks even in the arena walls. Aside from the Aura Sentinel, Shane had to deploy Safety Protection Tokens to shield himself and the Turret from the worst of the blasts.
Of course, the Turret or Cloud adapted to the growing horde by alternating between single-target shots and area-denial incendiary bombs.
Shane supported it by using his Telekinesis and firing with his shotgun from time to time.
"Bring it on!" Shane shouted as he triggered his Basic Throw Skill as soon as his shells were emptied. The Basic Throw was, of course, for his Silver Knives… With his strength that had already surpassed the human limit, he actually had a stronger piercing power with the knives compared to when he uses Telekinesis!
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Each knife was able to pierce through the Zombies, and although they weren't dying immediately with their high vitality, he was still able to stop their tracks.
None of the Screamer Zombies could reach them at all!
At Level 28, the Screamer count rose to 25. Acidic bile and sonic waves crisscrossed the battlefield, forcing Shane to move constantly. He relied heavily on the Sentinel Mk-IV's auto-recalibration to keep it firing accurately even as the environment shifted.
Shane's shotgun had run dry by this point, so he retrieved his Blight Fang Daggers, using Telekinesis to hurl them at critical targets. Each dagger struck true, disorienting or killing Screamers before they could overwhelm him.
Then, at Level 29, Shane was already facing 25 Screamers. They were in a long arc, and with their synchronized screams, Shane struggled a bit against the shockwave that rattled his bones.
"Ughh…"
Shane gritted his teeth as he endured the sound-based attack. He couldn't trigger his Telekinesis at this point and could only focus on defense.
"Cloud!"
