Chapter 109 Rattle Drum
Chapter 109 Rattle Drum
Lin Fan held his index finger to his lips, signaling Sima Liang to be silent.
With a nod, Sima Liang kept the pearl and picked up his sword.
Silence ensued.
"Hehe."
A moment later, a child's giggle echoed in the air.
It abruptly stopped and the child shouted, "Look, Grandma! There are two of them here."
Bang!
The door smashed open, and Lin Fan dodged it.
They could see a man dressed in kid's clothes standing outside.
He looked like a corpse, skin and flesh decaying, and had a metallic rattle drum in his hand.
He lunged at Lin Fan, with the rattle drum swung at Lin Fan's waist.
Lin Fan side-stepped, and he missed.
Bam!
The wooden floor burst into splinters as the rattle drum hit it.
Before the man could turn around, Lin Fan gave him a frontal kick at the man's head. Read exclusive content at My Virtual Library Empire
Thud!
The man flew and broke the wooden wall of the living quarter, tumbled on the ground for ten meters before stopping.
"My grandson!"
An old lady's voice shouted.
She went over to the man and checked on him.
To Lin Fan's surprise, the man just got up, smiled eerily, and rattled his drum.
Dong.
Dong.
Dong.
The grandma then stood up and stared at Lin Fan with her bloodshot eyes.
She drew out needles from her sleeves and shot them at Lin Fan.
Thud.
The needles were too fast for Lin Fan, but they couldn't get through Lin Fan's Primordial Earth Bastion ability.
The grandma's eyes opened wide in disbelief.
Boom!
Not giving her any breather, Lin Fan leaped and slashed with his curved sword at her.
The man quickly stepped forward and smacked his rattle drum at Lin Fan's legs.
"Damn you!" Sima Liang shouted and threw a net at the man.
The net glowed red as it flew in the air.
"Argh!" It caught the man, and the net started to burn in bright flames.
"My grandson!" The grandma tried to rescue her grandson but couldn't.
Lin Fan's curved sword was inches away from her forehead.
She couldn't do anything else but leap back.
The man screamed, flailed around, and stopped moving after a few moments.
"You shall pay for this!"
She drew out more needles and shot them at Sima Liang.
Sima Liang reached into his sleeve and took out a bottle.
He smashed it on the ground.
A white glowing wall then appeared in front of Sima Liang, blocking the needles.
Lin Fan took the opportunity to stomp on the ground with his Earth Splitter Stomp ability.
The ground shook and cracked open.
"You despicable beings!"
The grandma shouted as she fell into the opening.
Lin Fan lunged at her and with the curved sword, slashed at her neck.
Slit.
Her head flew away as she got decapitated.
Lin Fan wiped the sweat off his forehead as he turned and checked on Sima Liang.
"Are you all right? You got more of those artifacts with you?" Lin Fan asked.
Sima Liang's artifacts were useful, and they might need them later.
Sima Liang nodded and replied, "I'm all right. I got some artifacts left. Not much, but they should suffice."
They checked on the bodies of the man and the grandma.
What's left of the man was now the metallic rattle drum.
It must have been made of precious metal.
"You have any idea what it's made of?" Lin Fan asked Sima Liang.
Sima Liang inspected the rattle drum but couldn't figure it out.
He had never seen the metallic material before.
"I'm not sure. Some elders in Sima Family might know about it." Sima Liang replied.
Lin Fan nodded and kept the rattle drum into his toad statue.
The grandma now lying in the ditch created by the Earth Splitter Stomp ability didn't have much.
Lin Fan searched around and could only find the needles she had left on her.
Same thing with the needles.
Sima Liang had not seen the materials before.
Without any clues, Lin Fan kept them, and they ventured further into the mansion.
…
Sima Quan, a stout middle-aged man, swallowed a Blood and Qi Restoration pill.
His assistant, Hu Tuo, a monk from the Western Monastery, stood on alert by his side.
"Damn that Sima Yun! Letting us do all the hard work."
Sima Quan cursed silently as he recalled what had happened all the way.
He looked at Hu Tuo, but Hu Tuo was emotionless.
Sima Quan could only turn and look ahead.
Of course. Hu Tuo is just here on a mission, Sima Quan thought.
"Enough rest. Come, let's move on." Sima Yun shouted with his mysterious assistant, Jian Nu, beside him.
Sima Quan couldn't help it and cursed Sima Yun silently again.
At the corner of his eyes, Sima Quan suddenly saw Sima Huang giving him a glance.
Sima Huang pointed at Sima Yun and then gestured with his hand going across his neck.
His assistant, Ning Na, gave Sima Quan creepy vibes with her Gu Cultivation, so he quickly looked away, avoiding her glance.
Sima Quan stopped and thought for a moment.
"Is Sima Huang serious? Or was he baiting him to backstab Sima Yun?"
He couldn't decide, so he pretended nothing had happened.
They continued further into the mansion and finally they arrived at the main hall.
When they stepped into it, they heard murmurs.
The murmurs grew louder and louder.
They started to have a splitting headache.
It must be due to the murmurs.
"Sima Quan, ask that Hu Tuo to do something! These monks can forgo one of their senses for temporary powers. Giving up his hearing would help us!" Sima Yun shouted.
Sima Quan stared at Sima Yun.
If Hu Tuo was weakened now, he would be disadvantaged later.
He shouted back with his hands on his temple.
"Why don't you ask your assistant to help! Sima Huang, say something!"
Sima Quan threw the question to Sima Huang.
If he was serious about backstabbing Sima Yun, he would support him now.
Sima Huang looked at Sima Yun and then back at Sima Quan.
Finally, he turned to Ning Na, and said, "You have any ideas?"
Ning Na stretched out her hands and snakes shot out of her hands.
The snakes crawled around for a few moments, then looked and hissed at the altar table in the main hall.
She opened her mouth and insects then flew out of it.
They fly at the altar, when they hit it, they splattered into bits and their juices burned through the altar like acid.
The altar was destroyed within seconds.
All the murmurs went silent.
