Chapter 833: Chapter 492: Mark City
Nineteen jumped down from the windowsill; he was barefoot, his feet touching the ground directly, and his attire looked like that of an old man who scavenged for rubbish, completely different from the venerable Daoist he had met the last time.
“This is his tribulation. The Destiny Fragment has fallen here, and whether he can resolve it depends entirely on himself. If you insist on claiming you can alter the outcome, the only variable you might change is a demon hidden within this city, and that’s the only variation you can affect,” said the Old Taoist.
Logan’s eyes lit up upon hearing this. He didn’t care whether the Destiny Fragment was harmful or beneficial to the City Lord; since Nineteen said that finding the demon could help, he was determined to do it.
As for what kind of fortunes or misfortunes the Destiny Fragment would bring to the City Lord, that would depend entirely on the City Lord’s own destiny.
Logan understood that this was something he could not change.
“Then let me tell you, the demon is now hiding inside the Hundred Flowers Pavilion in the city. Find and kill her, then come look for me. I will wait here for you, but try not to take more than three days; otherwise, we’ll be too late,” Nineteen instructed.
After speaking, Nineteen flicked his finger, and a wisp of blue smoke drifted in front of Logan, slowly sinking into his forehead.
Suddenly, Logan felt clear-headed, as if something about his body had changed, but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was exactly.
“Thank you, senior. I will set out now and return as soon as possible.”
As Logan was about to leave the house, Nineteen frowned and suddenly spoke to stop him.
“Do you have something extra on you?”
Logan turned his head in confusion, not understanding what Nineteen meant by “something extra.”
He checked himself and a thought flashed through his mind. If he indeed had acquired something extra, it should be the object Daoist Qingyan had given him.
“Are you referring to this, senior?”
Logan took out the stone that Daoist Qingyan had given him.
Sure enough, Nineteen’s gaze sharpened instantly as he took the stone from Logan’s hand, examining it closely. After a while, he shook his head, disinterested.
“How boring. I thought it would be something impressive, but it’s just a minor trick,” Nineteen remarked.
Just as Nineteen was about to crush the stone in his hand, he remembered Logan was there; it wouldn’t be polite to destroy a gift given to Logan in front of him.
Consequently, Nineteen cleared his throat and looked seriously at Logan.
“This object was only slightly useful when you first left their side; it won’t be of much use later on. Moreover, keeping it on you holds no benefit. It would be better if I extinguished it for you.”
After pondering for two seconds and considering that Nineteen hadn’t done anything to harm him thus far, Logan nodded and agreed.
“Then I’ll trouble you with this, senior.”
The stone, hard as steel and sparkling in the sunlight, easily turned to dust in Nineteen’s hand.
“Alright, off you go. I’ll wait for you here.”
“Yes!”
Logan ignored the chaotic servants of the City Lord’s Mansion and went onto the streets, where the people seemed unaware of the looming disaster, still busily living their small lives.
Some hawked their wares on the street corners, while others performed various acts. The scene was bustling.
Watching the activities on the street, Logan felt even more determined to find the demon. If the demon was to cause trouble, he would eradicate it and ensure the peace and happiness of the people.
“Would you like to come in and have some fun, young man?”
A beautiful woman with a slender figure, dressed in colorful silk, stood in front of the Hundred Flowers Pavilion, her smile inviting as she extended her hand toward Logan, as if trying to lure his soul into the pavilion.
Seeing the dazzling lights and the throng of guests entering the Hundred Flowers Pavilion, Logan’s concern grew. He did not know when the demon planned to strike and feared that during the busiest time, he would not be able to protect everyone.
Putting aside those thoughts, Logan continued forward. Lingering here was not wise; he needed to enter and search for the demon’s presence.
Without regard for the woman beckoning at the door, Logan passed through the main entrance.
The moment he entered, Logan truly understood the phrase “intoxicated by wealth,” as the interior was even more opulent than the street outside. Numerous attendants bustled around the pavilion, holding all sorts of wine, tea, and even food.
On the stage ahead, dancing girls were performing synchronously, their coordination so impeccable it was hard not to wonder if they were sisters.
Logan walked in slowly. The place was so crowded it was difficult to find a spot to stand, so he made his way to a table on the second floor and sat down.
Immediately, waiters came over.
“What would you like to have, sir? We can arrange for company from beautiful women if desired. If it’s your first visit, we can also recommend our finest wines, dishes, and loveliest ladies.”
Logan hadn’t frequented such places before, but he entered this time without blushing or hesitating; after all, he had faced many trials and tribulations—what was a flower pavilion to him?
“Bring me some of your best dishes and wine.”
Logan’s instructions were concise, and the waiter was happy to deal with such straightforward customers, promptly leaving to prepare the food and drink.
By the time the dishes and drinks were served, Logan had not detected anything unusual about the Hundred Flowers Pavilion.
The dishes and wine before him were all top-notch, appealing to the senses with their looks, aroma, and flavor, kindling one’s appetite at the mere sight of them.
