Chapter 72 Boss Buffalo
Chapter 72 Boss Buffalo
The massive beast loomed before Alex, its hulking frame covered in thick muscle and an almost metallic sheen.
On its legs were what looked like gauntlets, crudely shaped but undeniably enchanted, radiating a faint, magical glow.
Alex's eyes narrowed. "Not your average buffalo," he muttered.
The beast suddenly spoke, its deep, guttural voice echoing. "Puny human. Prepare to be crushed."
Alex blinked, then sighed. "It talks. Great. But not very bright." He cracked his neck, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "This'll be quick."
Without hesitation, Alex surged forward, blade in hand, closing the gap between them in seconds. But the buffalo didn't flinch. Instead, it slammed a massive hoof into the ground.
BOOM!
The ground quaked violently, sending shockwaves rippling outward. Alex stumbled, caught off guard as the earth beneath him cracked and shifted.
"Okay, didn't see that coming," Alex thought, regaining his footing just in time. His left hand brushed the ground as he crouched, activating [Exploding Touch]. A faint shimmer marked the spot where he placed the explosive, ready to spring a trap.
Rising back to his feet, Alex caught sight of the buffalo charging at him. Its enormous horns gleamed under the light, aimed directly at his chest.
It was shockingly fast for its size—its massive frame barreling forward like a freight train.
But to Alex, it wasn't fast enough. Not even close.
Alex moved instinctively, rolling to the side just as the buffalo's massive horns grazed the air where he'd been standing. The beast thundered past, its momentum making it difficult to stop.
Before the buffalo could turn around for another charge, the ground where Alex had planted his [Exploding Touch] erupted in a fiery explosion.
The force of the blast sent dirt and debris flying, and the shockwave slammed into the buffalo, throwing it off balance and sending it skidding to the side.
Alex straightened, his sword at the ready, expecting the beast to stay down or at least show some damage.
But to his surprise, the buffalo pushed itself back up, seemingly unharmed. Its glowing gauntlets pulsed faintly, and it let out a guttural snort. Find more chapters on My Virtual Library Empire
"Your puny attacks won't stop me," the buffalo bellowed, its deep voice rumbling through the air.
Alex raised an eyebrow, mildly amused.
"Oh," he muttered, his voice carrying a note of intrigue.
A sharp glint flickered in his eyes as he studied the beast more closely.
The buffalo lowered its head for another charge, but Alex didn't wait.
He puffed out his cheeks, letting out a piercing [Sonic Howl].
The sound waves rippled through the air, an invisible force slamming into the buffalo and halting its advance.
The beast staggered back, its hooves digging trenches into the earth as it struggled to resist the attack.
Then Alex saw it clearly—a shimmering, almost transparent barrier surrounding the buffalo.
It hummed faintly with energy, flickering like a magical force field.
Alex squinted as he studied the barrier surrounding the buffalo. It reminded him of his [Aegis Arcane], a skill designed to repel magical damage. His eyes narrowed as he focused on the glowing gauntlets. They were clearly the source of the beast's shield.
"So it's resistant to magical attacks, huh?" Alex muttered under his breath. "Guess I'll have to do this the old-fashioned way."
Without hesitation, Alex equipped Murzok Fangblade, the weapon gleaming menacingly in his hand.
He tightened his grip and dashed toward the beast, his movements swift.
'Resistant to magical attacks, but let's see how it handles physical ones.'
The buffalo let out a thunderous roar as it saw Alex closing the distance.
It lowered its massive horns, digging its hooves into the ground, and charged full speed.
To the beast, Alex's approach was a challenge it wouldn't back down from.
The two raced toward each other like an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.
But just as they were about to collide, Alex disappeared in a blur of speed, vanishing from the buffalo's sight.
The beast skidded to a halt, confused, its eyes darting around.
Then it felt it—sharp, searing pain slicing across its sides and back. Alex's blade struck repeatedly, leaving deep gashes in its hide. Blood seeped from the wounds as the buffalo let out a pained grunt.
Alex reappeared behind the beast, wiping a bit of blood off his blade with a flick of his wrist. "Guess you're not immune to being cut down," he said with a smirk. "Good."
The buffalo snorted, its anger boiling over. "Damn you, human!"
Alex didn't give it a chance to recover. He charged again, aiming for the beast's neck, his blade ready to deliver a decapitating blow.
But the buffalo surprised him—it leaped backward with surprising agility for its size, avoiding the strike at the last second.
Alex's blade cut through empty air, and he paused, watching the beast carefully.
"Huh," Alex muttered, raising an eyebrow.
He didn't expect the buffalo to have reflexes like that.
As the buffalo landed heavily on the ground, a sharp rumble sounded near it.
Without warning, a jagged piece of rock materialized beside the beast, shimmering with power.
In the blink of an eye, the rock detonated, unleashing a fiery explosion.
The blast sent the buffalo reeling, its magical barrier barely managing to absorb the brunt of the impact.
Even so, the force shoved the massive beast backward, sending it tumbling across the clearing and slamming into a cluster of trees.
Before the creature could recover or even process what had happened, Alex was already airborne, descending like a predator with Murzok Fangblade gleaming in his hands.
He landed with precision, his blade carving through the beast's thick hide in a clean arc.
Blood sprayed as Alex severed one of the buffalo's massive legs.
The buffalo let out an ear-splitting scream, its voice a mixture of pain and fury.
Its glowing eyes locked onto Alex, filled with unbridled rage.
Enraged, the beast lunged forward, its horns aimed to gore Alex with all its remaining strength.
But Alex didn't flinch.
Calm and composed, he caught one of the beast's horns with his bare hand, halting the buffalo mid-charge.
The sheer strength in Alex's grip caused the horn to crack slightly, the beast's power no match for his own.
With a swift twist of his arm, Alex spun the buffalo's massive body, forcing it off-balance.
In one fluid motion, he raised Murzok Fangblade and brought it down with lethal precision.
The blade sliced cleanly through the buffalo's neck, severing its head from its body.
The buffalo's body collapsed to the ground with a thunderous thud, lifeless.
Alex stood over it, gripping the beast's massive head in his hand.
He brought the head close to his face, studying the expression frozen on the buffalo's features.
Its eyes were wide with shock, as if it couldn't believe its own defeat.
With a casual flick of his wrist, Alex tossed the head aside, letting it roll across the forest floor.
And a familiar sound echoed in his ears.
