Chapter 2618 Return Of Fertas' Skull And Inspection
Learning about the Temple and the Immortal Court's stance, Lin Mu wished to know more.
"What about the Guardian Beast bloodlines? Has anyone on your world assimilated them?" Lin Mu asked.
"There were some in the past, but it has been a long time since anyone obtained them again. Though the Tournament of the Four Guardian Beasts still occurs every hundred years," Karlia replied.
"It does?" Lin Mu was a bit surprised.
"Not only that, but it is one of the most popular events too," she confirmed.
"That makes sense. For Demons who like to fight a lot, it would be the best event," Lin Mu understood.
"Yeah, and since our tournament happens every hundred years, the experts from nearby worlds as well as farther ones visit for it too. It's one of the best times our people get to fight with other experts without any problems. If they try the same by going out to other worlds, things tend to get complicated," Karlia added.
"I understand." Even if Demons were a neutral race, their past history and people's image of them always came to mind. Others would be very quick to consider them a threat.
It couldn't be helped either, as Demons would challenge people to their face and might even attack right away—which, in an orthodox world, would be taken as unprovoked aggression.
"They always look forward to it, especially since they can't participate in other worlds' tournaments," Karlia stated. "The last one happened about ten years ago, which Ziran obviously missed. It was one of the best tournaments for my children, as most of them are around the strength needed to participate."
"What about you? Did you join in?" Lin Mu couldn't help but ask.
With her strength and personality, he reckoned she would jump at the chance.
"I did, of course. But I've only reached the top three twice in the seven times I participated. I've never been the top winner," Karlia revealed.
"You weren't?" That was surprising to Lin Mu.
"I'm not necessarily the strongest in my world, you know? There are many other demons stronger than me, but since they don't wish to take on the burden and responsibility of being Tribal Chiefs, they just keep to themselves.
"The first time I lost, it was actually to my own clansman, my cousin. He later left the world to pursue stronger opponents. And the second time I lost, it was to someone from a rival tribe. But I managed to defeat him later on outside the tournament," Karlia answered.
"That's interesting," Lin Mu said, stroking his chin.
Time went by quickly as the two chatted, and without realizing it, evening had already arrived.
Lin Mu had satisfied his curiosity and obtained all the answers he wished for.
"If you want to spar or just chat again, do visit our world," Karlia said before adding her communication tool signature to Lin Mu's.
"Oh? It's not a Jade Slip?" Lin Mu noticed that what Karlia had used was a bone charm instead.
"It works the same. Jade isn't that common in our world, so we use a lot of alternatives," Karlia replied.
"I see…" Lin Mu said, looking at the dark sky where a vague figure could be seen hidden among the clouds. "Looks like I'll get to observe Fertas' skull earlier than I thought."
"That was faster than I expected," Karlia said, spotting the giant demon skull approaching. "I was sure they wouldn't return for at least four or five days," she added with surprise.
"Did the children get tired?" Lin Mu wondered.
"No way. I bet they're just hungry and came back early," Karlia said, knowing her children better than anyone. "Though Ziran is probably exhausted too."
The two watched as the giant skull got closer, and after a few minutes, it reached the Seventh Burdock Courtyard. It hovered above the courtyard, and soon, people started jumping out from it.
SHUA SHUA SHUA SHUA
Within a minute, all the Demons had returned, led by their very tired father, Ziran.
The half-elf looked even more fatigued than when he had fought nonstop for a week in the Bridge Plane. His eyes were bloodshot, and his face sagged with exhaustion.
"Darling!" Ziran said as he ran over to Karlia quickly, fearful that his children might pull him away again for a meal in the city.
With their numbers and appetite, he knew that they would bankrupt him easily.
"Had your fun?" Karlia said with a smirk.
"Yes, yes, it was a lot of fun," Ziran nodded his head like a chick pecking grain. "But now I want to spend some valuable time with you," he added.
"Alright. We can have a meal with the children then," Karlia said, letting the man relax a bit.
"I'll call over the food!" Ziran acted quickly and contacted the servants assigned to them for food.
While they might not be in the courtyard, it didn't mean the food couldn't be delivered. Keeping the appetites of demons in mind, much of the food had already been prepared and could be called at a moment's notice.
"I'll go inspect Fertas' skull if you don't mind," Lin Mu said, choosing not to join them.
"Feel free," Karlia said, tossing a small bone token to him. "That'll allow you in."
"Thank you," Lin Mu said and quickly flew into the giant flying skull.
Once there, he wasted no time and began inspecting it closely. He used his Immortal Sense to scan every inch of the giant skull for clues while also analyzing its arrays.
"This is definitely not the work of a normal Formation Master. The runes used are a mix of the Dao Script and the Shamanic Script of the Demonic tribes," he noted immediately.
He continued analyzing the arrays and found many of them encrypted. For a typical Formation Master, it would have been very difficult to decipher, but since he already knew the Shamanic Script, the task became a bit easier.
It took him the entire night, but he finally found something hidden among the inscriptions.
