Chapter 1144: Riley vs. Odun
"Well then… want to try repeating that again?"
Odun's hall was incredibly lavish, extremely luxurious—and magical beyond words, and any attempt to actually describe it would fall short of even what it has to offer. But this magic was not easily seen; after all, one would usually find themselves just focusing on all the ornaments and the seemingly infinite amount of food its tables have to offer. But if one were to look up, one would actually find a map of the entire Grand Triangle in all of its brilliance and color.
But no one would be looking at that now, even if one were to be told to—how could they, when something even more… magical was about to happen?
Even the frenzied crowd who had been previously frozen by fear of Death were now very slowly moving from the floor—one by one, they pushed each other as they moved to the side of the hall. They could probably escape now, but what they were about to witness was probably worth being Heli's slave again for another hundred years.
In truth, these people were criminals—all trapped under the dungeons of Aegard, some of them to be tortured for eternity. And since Heli was the one who managed the dungeon of Aegard, they had no choice at all but to follow her whims and all of her wishes—and this was just one of her latest whims.
She told them to act like guests, like proper people just casually having a lavish party. And lo and behold, it was because the Goddess of Death's ex-lover was here. They all knew Monkeh, after all, in her previous life, she also spent some time in the dungeon—that's where the two of them met.
But out of all the things that could happen, this was not at all in their minds—literal Death joining them? And now, the man who had Death literally at his beck and call was about to fight the supreme ruler of Aegard. Even if their sentence would double, or even if they would die here—then it would be worth it to witness.
None of them were willing to escape and miss this.
And very soon, as they were now all on the sides as spectators, Odun finally moved from the wall—very slowly pulling out his spear; his humming breaths, causing a chill to run down their spine.
"You said your name was Riley Ross?" Odun stood up and tapped the shaft of his spear on the floor, causing a ripple for blow across the entire hall, "Are you here to challenge me for the throne of Aegard?"
"No," Riley just quickly shook his head, "I have already told you that it is already mine—you can have the other one."
"Hm…" Odun just smirked; his remaining eye, looking at Riley from head to toe as he sat on his throne, "...I see your past, Child. The path that you have taken, and the path that has led you there."
"That will not really be helpful to you right now, Odun," Riley just shrugged as Odun very slowly started approaching the throne again, "It would be more helpful for you to see the future."
"I already know my future," Odun let out a small chuckle, his wrinkles showing themselves while his long eyebrows trembled, "I see myself sitting back on that throne you are sitting on—with your head at the tip of my spear."
"That is a very ideal future, no?" A very small smile crawled on Riley's face, "Did your eye also tell you how you would do that?"
"Like this!" And with that as his only warning, Odun swung his spear right across Riley's neck—who just casually caught the blade with his fingers. And he didn't catch it by blocking his neck, no—he caught it on the other side of the blade.
"Why are you holding back, Odun?" Riley blinked a couple of times as he tilted his head closer to the blade of the spear, "I know you are strong—perhaps even stronger than Kravos—and from what I have seen so far, I do believe that you were not even sent to the Domain of the Gods? It would seem there is a mystery for us to solve here, Miss Pepondosovich."
And while still holding the blade of the spear, Riley just casually tilted his head again so he could look behind Odun and see Miss Pepondosovich—but alas, Miss Pepondosovich just glanced at him and shrugged, still incredibly busy eating her carrot-like dishes.
"Death also did not know this place existed…" Riley squinted his head as a small hum escaped his lips, "...Interesting, very interesting. Don't you think so, Odun?"
"What are you even talking about?" Odun did not seem stunned at all that Riley was able to catch his spear, "And I think you know why I am holding back, Riley Ross."
"And why is that?"
"Because I do not want to destroy my kingdom," Odun whispered, causing a growl to echo throughout Aegard, "But if you truly want to fight for my throne, then it would only be fair if I ask for something of equal value."
"I already told you, Odun—the throne is already mine."
"Her," Odun did not listen to Riley at all as he just pointed his finger. Everyone quickly looked to where his finger actually landed…
…only to see V with her mouth slightly open as she was also busy eating.
"If I win against you, I will get to have her," Odun then glanced at V, causing a shiver to once again run down her spine.
"What the—"
"No."
V quickly stood up from her seat, but before she could actually say anything, Riley's voice started to whisper through the entire hall.
"She is not mine to give, Odun," Riley shook his head, "She has her own free will—and although I may have been inside her once, she has long relinquished whatever sexual feelings she may have for me."
"What…" V could really only look around as she heard that—did he really just say that in front of all these people? Of course, of course, he did. He is Riley Ross, and he does whatever the hell he wants.
"Is that so?" Odun's old tired eye stared at V from head to toe, "I suppose that does not matter—after your head falls upon my spear, she would be swooned by all of my glory and strength!"
And with those words, Odun swung his spear again—and since Riley was still holding it, he was once again violently thrown away—this time, however, much faster and stronger… to the point that everyone could see his image almost blur and bend in the space.
Riley disappeared, but so did Odun.
"Hm…" Heli quickly moved to the center of the hall—her hands, raised as she quickly controlled the map of the Grand Triangle that was resting on the ceiling. She then pulled her hands down, bringing the map along with her, "...There they are."
Heli stretched her arms to the side—and as she did so, the hologram, if it really was a hologram, zoomed in to two figures who were currently battling it out in the expanse of space.
One could actually barely see anything, however, the only thing they could see were flashes of light here and there—and if they did see either of the two's silhouettes, it would be gone a quarter of a second later.
"Hm…" Miss Pepondosovich stopped eating as she squinted her eyes, "...So, I guess we can now excuse the fighting animation in that anime that Riley's son liked to watch—it really would look like this from afar."
"What… even am I seeing?" Aurora, who considered himself to be the most normal in the room, could not help but move her eyes as she followed the movements.
"...Don't tell me you can see it?" Monkeh squinted her eyes as she glanced at Aurora. Of course, Monkeh could also see it—but they were not actually fighting in front of her, they were only seeing snippets and images of it from the map of Odun's hall, it shouldn't be as accurate—but judging from the way Aurora's eyes were moving, she could actually see beyond the map.
"This… is how gods fight," Aurora completely ignored Monkeh's words as her eyes were fixated on the fight.
As for V, who found herself as one of the stakes in this sudden match, she was just shaking her head again and again—why was she suddenly involved in this? But she was, however, not concerned at all.
Because no matter what, she knew that Riley would win.
"They're gone," Aurora blinked as she looked at the map in its entirety.
"Where are they?" Heli also started moving the map—but she did not need to at all, however, as Odun and Riley showed themselves back in the hall.
And true enough…
…Riley's head was currently sitting on the blade of Odun's spear.
"What the… did…" Aurora could not help but just look at Miss Pepondosovich as she saw that, "Did…
…did he just lose!?"
