Chapter 331 - 164 Kael: I’m Still Used to Talking with the Elegant Elder Sister (10K, 54/76)_4
This race has an average lifespan of up to 150 years and, due to their frequent solitary travels, often change from being settled in one place to being nomadic. This adventurous nature is widespread among the halfling communities.
As a result, the halflings’ loyalty to the Orean Independent Kingdom wasn’t as high as one might imagine. In fact, due to the long-term participation and departure of halflings within the kingdom, there was a rapid turnover of its population.
Eventually, although a kingdom of halflings, it was ironically controlled by another race from within.
This race was known as the dwarves, with a stature and situation similar to the goblin race. Legend had it that they used to be some kind of mechanical puppets which, after encountering a curse of flesh and blood by an Evil God, transformed their bodies from mechanical to flesh and blood, eventually evolving into the dwarf race.
The ironic thing was that they also maintained a strong curiosity for technology, proving to be powerful engineers and inventors. Over the years, by exploring various goblin dungeons, the dwarves had absorbed much of the knowledge from the era of the goblin empire, forming a unique system of alchemy and gunpowder.
Initially, the dwarves had simply come to the Orean Independent Kingdom to amass the wealth accumulated by these adventure-loving halflings, who would always find some technologically intriguing items in various dungeons or relics in the wilderness that the dwarves favored.
But as time passed, the dwarves’ influence within the Orean Independent Kingdom grew stronger, even eventually suppressing the halfling faction that originally controlled the independent Kingdom.
The result was a kingdom that veered towards profit and thirsted for knowledge.
Kael didn’t need to guess that those dwarves were eyeing the knowledge possessed by the Bartlet Monarch.
Such audacity, to provoke the Yibel Federation with the power that the Kingdom now possessed?
He shook his head and said, "Before the Bartlet Monarch returned to his country, he was first a Mage and only secondly a strategic talent. You chose to make this trip for the interests of the Yibel Federation."
"But for us, the Mage Group, winning a new Magic Monarch is equally important. Let me put it this way, this time the Mage Academy will send out top Mages including Mr. Luxius, whose average strength is above Transcendent."
"A total of 15 teachers, aside from the dean who must stay at the Mage Academy, the top batch of teachers need to make the trip to boost the morale of the Bartlet Monarch."
Having listened to what Kael said, Elanna’s face showed a joyful expression. "If that’s the case, then I think I can spend more time with you moving forward."
Kael smiled and nodded, silently swallowing the words "Senior Sister Lily is also going" that almost slipped out.
It’s better not to say, just play dumb when the time comes.
Despite feeling that nothing had happened between him and Senior Sister Lily, Kael inexplicably felt a trickle of cold sweat down his back.
He was joking, there would be no such mayhem!
"By the way, Kael, who were you just talking about, Sister Franca?" Suddenly, Elanna asked.
"Ah, she’s the youngest daughter of Duke Lion Heart. Strictly speaking, she shouldn’t be called ’sister’; she’s more like an elder. But we get along quite well, usually each sticking to our own path."
As Kael said this, his face showed no signs of guilt. What a joke, he indeed had no messy relationship with Flandre.
He was actually quite comfortable speaking with a lady of her genteel demeanor.
Yet unconsciously, he began to ponder another issue.
"Elanna, I think you need to make some preparations. Given the current situation, it might not necessarily be peaceful when we get there."
"Or rather, we weren’t planning on allowing peace when we set off."
"When the time comes, even though you are students, I’m afraid you’ll also need to engage in some ’friendly’ interactions with their students."
What kind of interactions? By using fists to show them who truly understands the principles!
Kael didn’t even need to think about it to know that there would definitely be turbulence among the young students.
However, that group of halflings is not exactly an easy bunch to interact with, given that they sincerely treated adventuring as their profession.
For these students, who haven’t been battered by the dungeons many times yet, despite being nurtured in a superior system and even having a larger number of elite students selected from the top Knight Academy, their overall talent still surpassed that of the students dispatched by the halflings.
But when a fight broke out, it would no longer be just about talent and skills.
For young people, most of them hadn’t yet reached the stage to compete based purely on talent. The gap between academy training and experience could be completely bridged at their stage.
If they went into the contest with a haughty attitude, it might end up like some team whose future was blocked by a divine guardian, forcefully creating a "Rhapsody" by the same token.
"Kael, will you be fighting them when the time comes?"
"Hard to say."
Kael answered realistically.
After all, whether or not a fight would break out depended on the circumstances at the scene.
But he felt that his teacher would not miss this opportunity to make a grand showing.
Mr. Luxius, too, was a man keen on showing off.
