Chapter 186 - 148: Baiting Immortal
Chapter 186 - 148: Baiting Immortal
Before the Red Tide surged in, any craft could easily leave the harbor, the small islands.
But after the Red Tide, everything returned to its original place.
Having been delayed on shore for some time, Wang Rui had sped up his driving to reach his usual fishing spot.
"This is it, first use these bags of blood for baiting." Wang Rui, familiar with the process, poked several holes in the bags of blood and then tossed them into the sea.
The scent of blood dispersed under the water, quickly attracting swarms of luminescent fish.
As these fish fought over the food, darting about like bullets, the danger was not just from falling in and being torn apart, but also from them suddenly leaping out of the water to attack the people on the boat, no different than bullets spraying over in a hail of gunfire.
Beyond the school of fish, there were some dark, shadowy figures with enormous mouths that could swallow dozens of pounds of fish in a single gulp.
They weren’t there for a taste of the blood; rather, they were drawn by the assembly of fish.
With the appearance of these fish-swallowing creatures, the surrounding seawater began to churn once more.
A creature reminiscent of a terrestrial predator stirred below, and although Wu Hen could not see it, he could map out its size with his sonar, comparable to a sperm whale and equipped with incredibly sharp fangs...
These creatures, invisible to the naked eye, blended nearly completely with the red water and were not interested in humans, only in preying on those fish-swallowing creatures.
However, beyond such predators, there were other species that were very strange and enigmatic, giving Wu Hen the feeling that they were like ghosts in the water, apparently not feeding on the usual flesh and blood but rather relishing the atmosphere of this "feast."
It seemed that with predation came death, and soul breath was their true sustenance, including the bodies that sank beneath the waves.
"We might have baited a bit much this time," Wu Hen remarked as he watched the vibrant little world beneath the water.
"Have we?" said Wang Rui, his expression calm, "Our target hasn’t even appeared yet."
Indeed, he saw none of these things.
From his perspective, he saw only a swarm of luminescent fish fighting over blood and the occasional large fish that darted back and forth. He was oblivious to any other forms of life there.
If he had Wu Hen’s perception, he would probably be terrified out of his wits, for it was as though he were standing above a horrific abyss with each layer housing extremely dangerous predators. They each had their needs, and they could easily devour the humans above the abyss... yet, they adhered to some hidden law of survival!
"It seems something else has been disturbed," Wu Hen’s listening sense once again picked up a very subtle sound.
This noise was like the mumblings of an ancient sea demon sealed beneath the depths, emitting a siren song that seemed to lure those who search for treasures in the sea to come and unlock it.
The whispering of the devil.
After hearing this demonic voice, Wu Hen felt increasingly that the world under the water was terrifying!
Fishermen often liken themselves to Baiting Immortals, with the bait representing a gift to the school of fish. And netizens often joked that upon seeing the Baiting Immortals, the Fish Clan would hang up their "child boys and girls" to ensure a bountiful catch the following year.
But Wu Hen felt that the fishermen who came here were the real child boys and girls, because you never know how deep the water is or what lies beneath!
Glancing at Wang Rui, whose face was filled with the joy of fishing, Wu Hen thought it over carefully and decided not to tell him about the dangers lurking beneath the surface. Sometimes, being a little fish with blurred vision and a memory that lasts only seven seconds can be a happy thing. Why trouble oneself for no reason? After all, the plight of humanity was not so different from that of the luminescent fish – simply another link at the very bottom of the food chain, notable only for their large numbers.
"Here it comes, finally, there’s the Silver Spot I wanted!" Wang Rui said excitedly.
Wang Rui’s fishing technique had proven itself well here.
From baiting and luring to hook setting and waiting, every step had to be just right or the cautious Silver Spot would leave.
The Silver Spot were situated between the large devouring fish and ferocious beasts in terms of hierarchy; they were incredibly fast and preferred to feed on demon beasts with crystal organs inside their bodies.
These crystal-organ demon beasts mostly fed on ores, living like Scavengers on the bare islands around Red Port, detecting special rocks and minerals with strong perception and even unearthing Star Moon Gold.
The people of Red Port called them Tao Demons.
"They’re incredibly fast, like Silver Bombs launched from a rocket launcher. But I’ve put this Silver Magnet in the bait; it’ll hold them tight," Wang Rui whispered to Wu Hen.
"It’s not so much fishing as it is mining," said Wu Hen.
"Haha, you could say that," Wang Rui nodded in agreement.
As a Mechanical Beast Master, what he needed were various types of rare metals, and many metals in Desert Dust carried energy. To unleash the terrifying combat power of a Mechanical Beast akin to a nuclear bomb, these high-energy metals were indispensable.
However, the metals of Desert Dust were not necessarily found in caves or underground; they might grow on certain species or even evolve into unique organs of special creatures.
"Shit! The color’s wrong!" Suddenly, Wang Rui exclaimed, staring intently at the Red Plane.
Wu Hen also looked towards the dark depths beneath the water to see a flash of gold moving incredibly fast, the gold stringing like a small flying sword. It pierced through any beast that tried to stop it, suggesting that not even a yard-thick steel plate could halt it!
"It’s attracted something different; is it because we mixed in these people’s blood?" Wu Hen asked.
The blood bags were not filled entirely with animal blood, but also with bait from senior human sources, which, for some reason, excited the creatures of the Red Plane exceptionally.
"It’s a Golden Spot, oh my dear, if I could catch this, I could truly create something of the Twelve Zodiac Beasts’ level!" Wang Rui was both shocked and delighted, his eyes filled with longing.
"Be careful; it might not be here to be caught by you," Wu Hen warned.
"I know, I know. Let’s send down a ’green peel’ and test the waters," Wang Rui suggested.
"OK!"
Wu Hen kicked the green-skinned scoundrel into the ocean with a single foot.
The green-skinned man was so scared he lost control of his bladder. He could never have imagined that he would cross paths with a living Yama today. All he thought was to stroll out to make some petty cash, yet ended up being used as bait for fishing!
"Swoosh!"
Before the green-skinned man could react, the Golden Spot rushed over and left a gaping wound in him.
Initially, the green-skinned man didn’t comprehend what had happened; it wasn’t until his blood diffused wantonly under the water that he realized something had pierced him through, and he cried out in agony.
"Don’t feel sorry for them. Several of our schoolmates were thrown to the Tuna Fish by them. These strange-skinned people are actually the lowest class in Infinite Red Port, but they specifically target us for torture. If I didn’t have some strength, I would have been killed by them long ago," Wang Rui said to Wu Hen.
Wu Hen picked at his ear.
How could he possibly feel pity for a bunch of Red Port scoundrels?
"Your magnetic bait doesn’t seem to hold the Golden Spot," Wu Hen said.
"Then I have no better plan, unless I can get some Crystal Stone that can paralyze the Golden Spot the moment it enters here," Wang Rui said.
"Does electricity conduct underwater here?" Wu Hen asked.
"It’s about the same as normal air, not much conductivity... although those glowing fish are conductive," Wang Rui explained.
Wu Hen glanced downward and noticed that the glowing fish were gathering in ever larger numbers, almost turning the area into a neon sea, consequently attracting predators of various levels.
"They’re really conductive?" An idea sparked in Wu Hen’s mind.
"Of course, they don’t just conduct electricity, they can generate it too," Wang Rui said.
"Fishing is fun, but there’s no faster way than electrofishing. I have an idea!" Wu Hen grinned mischievously.
Wang Rui, true to his friendship with Wu Hen, knew that grin meant either stealing fruit from the neighbor’s tree or peeping at the neighbor’s elder sister...
"Is your electric power strong enough?" Wang Rui asked.
"Of course, the kind used for crossing thunder!" Wu Hen said.
"So I can bait heavily?" Wang Rui’s eyes sparked with shrewdness. Continue reading at NovelBin.Côm
"Go ahead and bait!"
Wang Rui didn’t hesitate further; he kicked the other three villains into the sea and didn’t forget to throw all the prepared Bait Blood Bags, baits, and Crystal Stones from the boat down as well!
"Bro, I’ve got some high-quality Yuan You here. Shall I throw it down too? Yuan You is the best for baiting!" Wang Rui was getting a bit carried away, ready to invest heavily.
Wu Hen was very pleased. Trust Wang Rui to be the clever one – using Yuan You as bait, and not just for fish, you could even lure mermaids with that!
"OXBK, just do it and it’s done!" Wu Hen made a hand gesture.
As he spoke, Wu Hen had already extended a finger and was quietly activating the Thunder Transition Factor within his body.
He knew many Desert Dust Life creatures were highly alert and would immediately evacuate at the slightest energy disturbance.
But the Thunder Transition Factor was quite special; it was closer to being completely natural, very similar to the thunder energy in this otherworldly realm, not like something a Predator would release.
As Wu Hen was accumulating the Thunder Transition Factor, only a few species chose to flee. Most of the creatures still lingered nearby, creating a big fish eat little fish, little fish eat shrimp scenario...
In fact, some were able to sense it.
But including humans, everyone has a herd mentality.
With so many voraciously feeding, they couldn’t all be fools, unaware of danger.
Even if there was danger, with tens of thousands present, the chance of it affecting oneself was low, and perhaps one might be the early bird that gets full and leaves.
"Bro!!" Suddenly, Wang Rui got excited.
"What’s up?" Wu Hen asked.
"The Golden Fin you wanted!" Wang Rui said excitedly, pointing underwater where a large swath of golden light appeared in the deep water.
Wu Hen was stunned too.
This was the first time he had seen such resplendent golden fish, similar in size to sharks!
"Your Yuan You has done great work!" Wu Hen got excited as well.
A Third Rank Physique seemed achievable today!
"Not at all, it was Brother Hen’s savvy human bait that did it!" Wang Rui said with a laugh.
"We’re both geniuses."
"Hehe! We’re gonna be rich now!"
