Chapter 35 The manticore

Immediately Xander was dragged into the cave he Immediately let go and he rolled on the floor violently without control, leaving a trail of something being dragged on the sandy floor.

When he stopped rolling he immediately stood up, ignoring the pain he felt all over his body. He casted his magic flames and immediately, a big sized blue flame appeared over his hand and the heavy footsteps he heard slowed down.

The manticore stepped into the light and like the first time, it looked controlled as it swayed it's head as it stared directly into the fire.

Xander had enough of this monster, it has terrorized him and put him in fear for too long and it was time he ended it.

'With it distracted by the flame I can finally kill it.' Xander thought.

Two red swirling flat disk of energy floated behind the minotaur.

'It wouldn't be enough.' Xander thought and summoned a total of twenty chains ready to wrap the minotaur.

'It could wake up from it's daze so I have to make it unable to move as fast as I can.' Xander stretched his hand towards the minotaur and clenched his fists.

Chains spurted out of the swirling energies and immediately wrapped the minotaur and suddenly, the minotaur started letting out loud roars as it struggled to get out of the chains.

Xander pulled out his spider sword and ran towards the huge minotaur. He circled it and jumped up with all the strength in his legs.

On the air, Xander used both of his hands to hold the hilt of the sword and point it downwards.

As he fell he brought the sword down on the minotaur's head in a stabbing motion with all his strength. It was like do or die for him so Xander put all his hope, strength and his focus on bringing down the sword.

Upon contact with the minotaur's head the sword shattered like glass and Xander's eyes widened.

The minotaur shook it's head and threw Xander off of it's head.

Xander was still in shock when the minotaur threw him and he flew through the air without resistance and he hit his back on the wall of the cave.

Xander was feeling weaker than ever. He coughed up blood and his vision was blurry but it would clear in a few seconds intervals.

The minotaur kept on roaring and roaring, each time louder than the last.

Xander kept on using his mind to tighten the chains to buy himself some time to crawl away.

Seeing the human leaving the minotaur roared louder than ever and cracks began to appear on the chains.

Xander stopped crawling and his heart began to beat loudly. 'Is this the end for me? I didn't even get to see my mom once more. I didn't even get to have a daughter and a perfect family of my own like I've always dreamed.'

A bright light flashed in the side of the minotaur and Xander looked beside it to see a huge ball of flames coming from the labyrinth towards the tunnel where he was.

Xander closed his eyes and the fire collided with the tied up minotaur and a loud explosion boomed all around the surroundings.

Smoke clouded Xander's vision and when he turned, he saw the minotaur with a broken horn lying beside him, it's breathing was getting weaker.

Xander was quite startled but he took opportunity of this to attack the weakest part of it's body, it's eyes.

Xander summoned one swirling ball of energy and shot out a Primordial chain which pierced through it's eye immediately, killing the minotaur.

*Ding!*

[You have killed level 51 minotaur. You have gained 505,000exp]

Xander immediately felt refreshed and his vision cleared and so did his hearing. All the pain that he felt immediately went away and he breathed a sigh of relief.

Xander furrowed his brows as he heard something he didn't pay attention to before. Three was a loud roar coming from the labyrinth. It wasn't that of the flies, no. Flies don't roar.

It was exactly the roar of a lion. Looking towards the labyrinth Xander saw a gigantic lion with bat like wing flying towards him. Luckily he was in a blindspot and he immediately hid inside the crevice in the wall.

The large creature finally landed on the sand in the tunnel. It let out a loud bellowing roar that reverberated throughout the tunnels and Xander's eyes widened as he has heard a similar roar before.

The roar he heard when he was about to start exploring the caves before the minotaur first found him.

'Is that the manticore?' Xander thought as he looked at the beast that would probably tower over him; it was almost twenty feet tall while standing.

It's large wings each as wide as it's body and it's tail, no tails! The manticore had three tails which were extremely flexible. They weren't covered in fur but was like a hard shell with spiked tip.

Each tail was slim and was moving around individually. Xander watched as the Manticore walked to the minotaur and grabbed it with its mouth... no it didn't grab it, it bit the minotaur in half.

'My God!' Xander exclaimed inwardly as he saw the minotaur whose skin he couldn't even cut or even leave a mark on with his level 20 sword being chewed up like as if it was the softest thing on the planet.

'It must be at least twice the level of the minotaur to rip it apart so easily.' Xander thought.

The manticore took the other half of the minotaur in it's mouth and chewed as it flapped it's wings, blasting itself out of the cave and causing wind to carry sand around, making a mini sand storm in the tunnel.

Xander covered his eyes to avoid sand getting in and after a while the storm subsided.

Xander fell on his knees as he started thinking, 'How am I going to get out of this place? Seems like the minotaur's loud roars awakened the manticore. With it awake I wouldn't be able to escape this place.' Xander put his fist to the floor as all hope was lost.

"No. All hope isn't lost. As long as I can hunt creatures and level up, I'll be able to beat the minotaur one day." Xander said as he stood up.

As he was about to go back into the tunnels he started seeing that familiar red aura in the air, the same one he saw in that secret cave behind the waterfall. Xander didn't understand what the aura would be doing here so he followed it back to where the minotaur was blasted.

The aura seemed to be on the sand and Xander began to use his hand to dig. It seems like the sand storm covered whatever the aura is pointing to.

After five minutes of digging Xander found the minotaurs large axes covered in the red aura and he furrowed his brows in confusion.

[The cursed weapon 'Bringer of death' has chosen you as it's new owner.]

[Do you accept?]

Xander stared at the system screen with mixed feelings and emotions. At this point he didn't know what to do.

He needed a weapon but, the system says the weapon is cursed.

'The weapon is cursed. Does that mean it will take over my mind or something?' Xander thought as he didn't say anything and pondered.

'Only one way to find out.' He had to take the risk. He didn't want to but something about this feels right.

"I accept."
