Chapter 262 Candidate of God

Chapter 262 Candidate of God

"Sounds like a load of bullshit to me, personally," Mikhail shot back. "If God truly killed himself, don't you think he'd have left some kind of will behind? Like, who would take over as the next head of heaven?"

"It's right to assume so, and that's why I pulled a few strings." Lucifer tugged at the mana core in his hands when, all of a sudden, a bright white light shot out, covering both of them.

Mikhail was on guard; however, feeling no malice, he swiftly let up.

As he did and reopened his eyes, the sight of a white palace greeted his sight.

"God's palace, what are we doing here?" Mikhail asked, and Lucifer merely shrugged.

"Beats me. This is what happens every single time I inject mana into the mana core," Lucifer replied.

"Every time you inject mana... You appear inside God's palace?" Mikhail raised his brow. "That makes sense. I mean, this is where he spent most of his days after all."

"Or so you would think," Lucifer said with a massive grin before suddenly taking a step forward.

As he did, the space cracked around him; however, he wasn't thrown out of the imaginary space. Instead, he kept moving forward, leaving the bewildered Mikhail behind.

Nonetheless, Mikhail was not a pushover, and after so many years of experience, he knew how to copy what he saw.

Therefore, by simply covering himself in mana that nearly masked his presence, while at the same time assimilating with God's mana core, he began walking forward.

The process was much smoother than what Lucifer had done, and soon, the two of them arrived at the very top of the stairs.

What greeted their sights was a blurry landscape, as one would expect from an imaginary construct.

However, all of a sudden, Lucifer's face scrunched up, and in the very next moment, the mana core appeared again, just this time, it was cracked.

"What are you doing?!" Mikhail asked, panicked.

For someone to desecrate God's mana core, it meant certain death—at least, that's what should have happened.

After all, laws existed in the world, which were created by none other than God, and therefore, Lucifer should be dead.

Yet he wasn't.

Soon, the surroundings began clearing up, revealing the top of the palace stairs perfectly.

There was a small couch, a few plates of food, and lastly, a massive white throne.

However, on the throne sat God, the same perfect yet faceless being Mikhail had remembered from his memories.

But that same being was now idly chatting, eating food leisurely, and practically slacking off.

"This is the past?" Mikhail questioned, seeking confirmation.

"This is the latest memory before his death, yes," Lucifer affirmed, walking closer and stopping in front of God, before sending a kick straight through his head.

Obviously, it went through, but Lucifer merely did so to ease Mikhail's suspicions.

Mikhail narrowed his eyes. "How long before his death?"

Lucifer turned around, flashing a massive grin. "10 seconds."

As those words fell, Mikhail suddenly straightened his back, watching everything in great detail.

However, he could not tell that would be the factor that would make God die.

After all, an immortal being can't just choke on food, probably.

"3," Lucifer began counting down.

"2."

"And of course, 1."

Just as his words finished, a loud crack resounded throughout the entire white palace, and following that, God fell to the ground, lifeless.

Mikhail could not process what had just happened, but soon, a pair of footsteps resounded.

"Oh?" Lucifer let out, amused. "Seems like the old man did not kill himself after all."

"..." Mikhail turned toward the footsteps, and upon doing so, saw a figure he wasn't expecting to see.

It was a golden-haired man, with equally golden wings and eyes, slowly walking closer.

What...? Mikhail's eyes widened upon seeing the perpetrator.

After all, it was none other than he himself.

"Hahahahaha!" Lucifer's crazed laughter rang out as he fell to the floor, seemingly unable to stop.

All the while, Mikhail was staring in shock as he himself approached God and retracted a miniature golden sword from his neck.

But there was something off; the look in his eyes, it was different.

His eyes weren't even golden; in fact, they were red, one of the characteristics of demons.

It seemed like Lucifer had taken notice of that, as aside from laughing, he wasn't saying anything else.

Nonetheless, the events soon played out as one would expect, with the fake Mikhail cleaning up the evidence and plopping God back down on his throne before walking away.

With that, the space around them suddenly shattered, bringing them back into the open, yet extremely empty cosmos.

"So that's what happened then," Lucifer finally spoke up, his face still a bit red from laughing. "I didn't expect someone to be powerful enough to ambush God, let alone trick Uriel and even enter God's palace in the first place."

"It almost sounds like you are accusing me," Mikhail narrowed his eyes and drew his sword, placing it right on Lucifer's neck. "Do you seriously think I would kill him?"

He was met with a nod. "Yes. In fact, I do."

"You are not making sense, Lucifer," Mikhail said with anger, before slashing his sword sideways, cutting off Lucifer's head.

But of course, aside from taking an extra nanosecond to regenerate, there was nothing else that could be done.

After all, Mikhail had no way to kill an immortal being, hence why it was impossible for him to kill God.

"I'll give you a piece of advice, Mikhail," Lucifer said with a sigh. "You should really watch your temper."

As the last of his words fell, Mikhail suddenly felt a fierce impact on his chest, and as he gazed down, he realized that his entire body, apart from his head, was completely destroyed.

It was a bit of a shock, but it was soon replaced with confusion.

"What did you do?" Mikhail asked, his expression growing more hollow.

"What did I do? I wonder?" Lucifer chuckled, fiddling with the dim white mana core in his hands.

He used it to seal my mana... Fuck, Mikhail exclaimed inwardly.

In the current situation, he was helpless, and if Lucifer decided to finish him off, there was nothing he could do.

After all, escaping God's power was impossible, not even for him.

But the expected killing did not happen, as Lucifer merely stared at him with a grin.

And in the very next moment, he floated closer and brought God's mana core closer to his forehead, practically touching it.

"What are you—!" his words were interrupted when all of a sudden, Lucifer stuck the mana core into Mikhail's eye socket, destroying his normal eye in the process.

And at the same time, a row of strange messages appeared.

<Inheritance of God has been accepted, recipient: Mikhail Light>

Accepted? I didn't—

<Forceful merging of memories has started...>

<Canceled!>

<User has enough knowledge to proceed onto the next phase!>

"Hahaha, you sure are enjoying yourself now, aren't you? Mikhail," Lucifer said teasingly, rubbing the eye in which the mana core lay.

In a bout of anger, Mikhail thought of disintegrating Lucifer in an instant, and surprisingly, that was exactly what happened.

One moment, Lucifer was there, and in the next, only his feet were left floating.

Even then, they were not moving anymore, which meant he was dead.

Just like that, a Seraphim, one of the strongest in the universe, had died with a mere thought of Mikhail's.

But his confusion was short-lived, as in the very next moment, pain assaulted his eye socket, as the mana core was seemingly combining with everything he was, until eventually, Mikhail saw the world slightly differently.

There were pathways of light leading everywhere, and as he focused on them, Mikhail was able to spot extremely strong beings, who, for some reason, looked identical to God.

Frankly, even their strength was the same, and every single one of them seemed to have taken notice of him too, as one by one, their gazes turned toward him.

<You're not worthy of being a god... How?>

A message appeared, and he did not exactly know how to respond.

"I'm not trying to be a god. This is a mere coincidence," Mikhail bargained, and soon, his body began reconstructing itself.

Just this time, it was many times faster, and even more so, he was able to get an even bigger pinpoint on their locations. Explore more adventures at My Virtual Library Empire

Yet as he focused more and more, a single one of those strange strong beings appeared, looking down at him menacingly.

"What is your name? Subject of universe... 6?" The being asked, its voice robotic.

"Mikhail... I was serious when I said—"

"I do not care for your squabbles; there are more pressing matters at hand." The being suddenly twisted its hand, and as it did, Mikhail was propelled toward it.

"I wish to keep this brief, as we are incredibly busy as is, Mikhail," the being stated, its white eyes staring practically into his soul. "I shall grace you with an opportunity, one which would determine whether you are worthy or not to become a god."

As the last of the being's words fell, a row of messages suddenly appeared before Mikhail.

But there was one that, for some reason, felt both familiar and alien.

<Do you wish to start born anew?>

<Yes/No>

Before he could pick, the words continued.

<Option "Yes" forcefully selected by ###>

<Welcome, candidate of God>
