Chapter 280 Thunderstruck

Chapter 280 Thunderstruck

When Luna reached the top of the wall she was met with something no one expected, the place was deserted. From the looks of it, it had been a while since the rangers last came to that part of the wall.

The death of so many rangers at the outpost near the lost city was a big hit for the limited forces that were already spread too thin at the wall, but no one in Luna's group had any means to know about this. The fact that the wall had no guards had to remain a secret, but that played against them at such critical moment.

Luna could feel heat rising through her spine and she knew the meaning behind it, she would soon experience one of her episodes and wouldn't be able to control herself. She would lash out for at least an hour unless someone comforted her, but she was all alone in that wall.

"Mister Wabbit... uhm... Uriel..." She loudly gritted her teeth trying to think of something that made her happy, but it was useless.

As the sun began to set, Uriel's shadow cloak grew dimmer and weaker. A scratch here, a bruise there, soon enough he was covered in gashing wounds and gruesome swellings. He looked just like a boxer from the old times, back when humans didn't have traits and participated on regular sports.

Medusa rushed in to try and rescue him from his disadvantageous position, but Nika stopped her.

"We need to do something, he's going to die!" Medusa cried, but Nika shook her head.

"It's on his hands now." She let out.

The changelings soon swarmed all over Uriel, drowning him in a sea of punishing limbs and cruel teeth until it became impossible to see him anymore and for a couple seconds silence ensued.

At that moment, a cyan light erupted from the midst of the frenzied creatures as Water warlock's blessing kicked in. Uriel's fractured bones healed immediately and his many wounds were nowhere to be seen.

He lingered for a second or two as the cryptids cowardly took their distance from the unknown threat they sensed on the hunter's shimmering eyes. Something unsettling hid behind Uriel's prideful smile as he grasped the hilt of Thunderbolt Iron and channeled flux onto it once more, but the result was way more powerful than he anticipated it.

The sparks of lightning somewhat resembled the shadowy limbs that enveloped him and the nearest cryptids were burnt to a crisp in a matter of seconds. The only ones who survived were those cautious enough to detach themselves from the mass before the lightning struck, but Uriel wasn't willing to let them go. He wasn't willing to let any of them go.

Each swing of his sword left a hole the size of a cannon ball and the unsightly creatures were reduced to cinders and shreds. Flux orbs seemingly rained from the sky as the only evidence of the carnage unleashed upon them and when the last one touched the floor, Uriel too fell limp.

"Uriel!" Medusa rushed in to help and this time Nika didn't try to stop her.

"Don't forget," Uriel let out in a faint voice fitting for someone on his death bed, causing Medusa to lean in closer. "don't forget to collect them." He continued before passing out of exhaustion.

The lightning Uriel summoned could be seen from all corners of the city and it caused the city to fall into chaos thinking that the wall had been breached. People ran mindlessly from place to place in a disorderly fashion and the army was deployed to prevent ransacking, leaving the most difficult task which was to calm the situation to the government officials.

Samuel Song summoned the heads of all government agencies to address the situation and try to figure out whether they had to issue an evacuation order or not but no one had a clue about what was going on.

It wasn't until the watchmen were added to the online meeting that they found out that there was no threat at all and that it was most likely something related to the trait of one of the Dungeon Raiders. All they were able to see was the aftermath of Uriel's berserk fit, but knew nothing about what caused the lightning or why would someone activate a trait so powerful within city walls.

"It must be Raider, I've heard a lot of stories about him." Said the head of the Internal revenue service, who played no part in any discussion not directed specifically to taxes but still formed part of the city board.

"Raider? But why would he do something like that? If he's a holy rank hunter he must know the law. He's not even registered!" The head of the Cryptid hunting agency, a woman that gave off the vibe of a paper pusher instead of the strongest hunter in the city, said as she nervously attempted to adjust her glasses but ultimately failed because of her trembling hand.

"He knows what he's doing," Tina's father, who was the head of the most important corporation and represented the voice of the wealthy citizens, said in an accusatory tone as he joined the online conference. "he just declared war against us. There's absolutely no reason for a holy rank hunter to use his trait inside city walls."

"You know damn well that's bullshit, there's been a lot of talk about cryptids within our walls for a while now or are you so dumb that you believe your own lies?" A man who looked to be the epitome of cowboys spoke with a rough tone of voice. He clearly wanted to keep pressing, but Samuel Song cut him short.

"Enough! Those aren't lies. Up to this day we have been unable to confirm the presence of cryptids within our walls, but we have been able to catch many offenders who abused their traits, especially in the slums during curfew.

We can't speak about Raider's intentions because we don't know the man, but if he's the one responsible for that lightning then he must abide by law just like any other hunter."

"You only say that because you know there's no way to bring him to justice now that our holy rank Hunter is out on a mission!" Tina's father erupted in anger causing the whole conference to become like a wasp nest.
