Chapter 183 Relic conundrum Part 4

Chapter 183 Relic conundrum Part 4

"That doesn't make a difference, you shouldn't be here at all. Get them both out of my sight." Ethan commanded his soldiers.

"Actually, they should be here. If you don't want them around, I'll let them stay as part of my crew. Does that work for you, Nikki?" Jon winked at Nika.

"We're not part of anyone's crew." Nika scoffed at Jon.

The room burst into a loud discussion about whether or not Nika and Uriel should be allowed to stay. After all, Uriel was invited by Pangiotis who only had a minor participation in the affairs, but Jon raised his hands making everyone fall silent.

"Lads, please calm down. There's no time for power plays, we need to find the last relic before it's too late."

"That's the reason why I'm here. We're currently in possession of the last relic but I'll only bring it if you agree to share an equal part of the profit from the orichalcum vein."

"Why would we agree to something like that? We put a lot of work and invested heavily on this enterprise. In order to explore the dungeon we are sending our strongest soldiers and the Mapple corporation is sending their strongest hunters." Ethan argued.

"Also, professor Pangiotis here is in charge of the scholars that will figure out how to open the dungeon and Mister Jon provided David Crockett's diary. Your contributions, if what you claim is true, would amount to nothing but the relic."

"Why does it matter? If you don't agree then we won't hand over our relic and no one will be able to go inside." Nika shrugged dismissively.

"We, as the army, can requisition it." At Ethan's command every soldier in the room readied their weapons and in response, the Mapple corporation did the same. Jon watched the scene unfold with an amused smile and took a sip from his flask.

Uriel wished Nika didn't do so many unnecessary things. By walking in and claiming she was his employer and that they possessed the relic she allowed them a seat at the table, but they didn't gain anything by opposing the other parties involved.

"The Mapple corporation agrees to those terms." Although Medusa's words eased the situation a little, the soldiers remained armed.

"The Celes company does too." Tina finally said and Ethan signaled his soldiers to lower their weapons.

"Why would I believe either of you?" Uriel asked with a stern look on his face. "Both companies screwed me over in the past. First, the Mapple corporation has yet to pay me anything for the expedition to Chichén Itzá."

"That is not true, we..." Tina tried to speak but Uriel cut her short.

"It was me who told you about the dungeon in the first place and that was only with the agreement that the rights to exploit its benefits would be mine alone. Tell me, Tina, how did it go from me being the sole owner to not even being invited to the discussions you made with the army? You should have asked me in the first place."

"Cheeky young lad!" Jon burst into laughter as he grabbed his belly. "I like this kid."

"Even if what you say is true, what makes you think a kid like you would be entitled to something like an orichalcum vein? That's just ridiculous. Only a big family can be allowed to even have a share of the profits." Ethan butted in.

"So, what you're saying is your family shouldn't be allowed any profits and you're here on behalf of the army, right?" Nika replied. Read new adventures at My Virtual Library Empire

The discussion took a turn for the worst and everyone started arguing with each other. Whenever too many high ranking hunters got together they usually took care to not escalate matters into a fight since it would always end in mayhem, but even 1% of the shares to an orichalcum vein was enough to set someone for life.

Things didn't look good and no one wanted to take a step back but all of that changed when Sam walked in along with his father, Samuel Song.

"Mister Song, what are you doing here?" Ethan went to greet the man dressed in a business suit.

"My son called me here to settle the matter." The atmosphere shifted from chaos into order with but a few words from the important figure brought by Sam.

"You shouldn't have bothered coming all the way here." Ethan said apologetically, but Samuel directed an angry frown towards him.

"You're saying the government has nothing to do with an orichalcum vein? I've already been informed of everything and here's what will happen. Miss Nika will turn in the relic and the profits from the dungeon will be split into three equal parts."

"What about the artifacts or treasures we might find?" Uriel asked, though he soon regretted it. Apparently, even Jon Hunter was intimidated by the presence of Sam's father and everyone looked towards Uriel with pity.

"Sir, you don't have to answer to this lowlife slumrat." Ethan glared at Uriel with a murderous glare.

"Is this your friend?" Samuel ignored the colonel and asked Sam to which he nodded silently. "I am indebted to you for helping my worthless son, thank you for helping him grow out of his spineless character. Now to answer your question, hunters' law states that whatever any hunter finds during incursions belongs to them, I believe those rules would be applicable in this case too."

Ethan shrunk trying to hide his embarrassment, after all, Samuel Song was the highest ranking government agent in the city. Even though the army was a separate entity from the world government, the Jacobs family had interests on both private and governmental affairs even if it was at a small scale.

"Now that all the misunderstandings have been cleared, it is time for you to head over to the dungeon and for me to go back to the office, but I'll be sending my son to make sure there's no foul play between the different parties." With this, Samuel Song left the lecture hall and now everyone seemed to be in a cooperative state of mind.

The preparations for the dungeon wouldn't take long as both the Mapple corporation and the Celes company had deployed all of their sizeable resources into this mission but Uriel was left in a pinch. If he wanted to take part in the exploration of the dungeon he would need to figure out all the arrangements for the dungeon by himself and Luna had yet to show up or reply to his text
