Chapter 170 Where to find...

Chapter 170 Where to find...

It was already too late to join the physical training class and Uriel was left with nothing to do but to seek the professors and instructors Nika recommended him. Although it seemed like an easy task at the beginning, he soon realized how wrong he was.

The campus was huge, bigger than the cities of old, and it held a massive population. Finding a person without help was already a difficult task, but doing so with nothing else but a name only made things more difficult for him.

"Professor Charlie..." He muttered to himself as he walked aimlessly around campus. He knew it was the same professor Nika recommended to Sam and that meant he must be a ranger, but other than that he had no clue on where to find him. "I wish I could go look for him with Sam."

Although Uriel himself recommended everyone to keep their distance from each other for a while and to not text each other, he deeply regretted not being able to do things together with his friend.

"Professor Fermi..." Was the next one on the list. This was somewhat easier since he was considered one of the top professors in the engineering course, but that also meant there was a high chance of bumping into Medusa who wanted to be a combat engineer and he wanted to avoid her for the time being.

That left him with only two names left on the list.

"Professor Lamar and Professor... Nika! This airhead!" Uriel facepalmed at Nika's shenanigans, though in reality, it was on him for not realizing that she would obviously appoint herself. Finding Nika should be easy enough for him, but it was also pointless to look for her.

Uriel then decided to go look for Professor Lamar because he knew more or less where to find him, given that he was tutoring the heavenly rank students.

But finding him and getting him to take him as his student were two different things. Besides, he didn't know much about him beyond his professional attitude and his reputation for being strict to everyone.

"Know your opponent, huh." Uriel sighed. He didn't even know how to approach Professor Lamar, much less how to convince him.

"Sage?" Amy, the second year student that led the last incursion was standing right in front of him. "What are you doing here?"

"I guess I'm lost." He replied after realizing he didn't know where he was.

"No kidding." She giggled.

"Hey, do you happen to know Professor Lamar?" It was a longshot but he had nothing to lose by asking.

"Uh oh! Don't tell me he's your tutor."

"Not really, but he's on my list."

"I don't think you'll enjoy his teachings." Amy's face became grim as though she swallowed a bug.

"No way!"

"Yes! He's the one who wrote the hunting manual."

"Crap!" Uriel was beyond disheartened. Just the thought of enduring boring lectures about the manual and safety made him want to drop out of college. He wanted to learn more about ancient cultures and didn't see any value in whatever teachings someone who wrote something as useless as the hunting manual could impart.

"I've been meaning to thank you for what you did for us in our incursion, let me buy you a coffee while I tell you more about him."

Uriel took the offer on the spot because, as much as he wanted to avoid it, he still needed to ask Professor Lamar to teach him and whatever information Amy could share might become useful in the future. Plus, he wasn't one to reject anything offered to him for free.

"So, tell me about yourself." Amy broke the ice as soon as they sat in front of each other in the cafeteria.

"I want to become an archaeologist, but I thought you were going to tell me how to get on Professor Lamar's good side."

"Uhm... Sure, but you can't expect a cute girl like myself to just spit information out."

"What do you want? I don't have any money left from our incursion." Uriel lied through his teeth.

"I can't deny I'm running a bit low on funds lately but..." She blushed up lightly. "I'm more interested in you. We can take turns asking questions."

"Are you a spy or something?"

"Of course not! What a waste of a question. I'm just a second year student that just happened to take an interest in you." Your journey continues at My Virtual Library Empire

"That's exactly what a spy would say."

"Alright... that's enough joking around. It's my turn now, where did you grow up?"

"In the slums. Where do I find Professor Lamar?"

"I knew it! You had that look in your eyes. He's always on his lab except when he's teaching. Do you have a girlfriend?"

"No. How do I get him to take me as a student?"

"Just ask him, he's strict but he'll accept anyone who wants to learn. He's very concerned about student's safety and he's a really nice guy. Why do you want to become an archaeologist?"

"That's because..." Uriel hesitated on what to reply. While it was true that archaeology was his passion and he considered it his true calling, he couldn't deny the influence Jon Hunter's books had on him growing up. The problem was that just the thought of mentioning his name brought back the bitter memory of their encounter. "It's complicated. Thanks for the coffee."

Uriel was getting ready to leave, but Amy stopped him.

"Ok, fine. Enough games for now. Let me see if I can help you with the other professors on your list."

"It's Charlie, Fermi and Nika." Uriel replied.

"I don't know about Professor Nika, but Charlie will be difficult to find because rangers usually go out to practice survival skills and marksmanship. Professor Fermi will most likely be at his workshop tinkering with his gadgets and whatnot, but from what I've heard he doesn't take any freshmen students. Maybe... If you bring him something he likes he might take you in."

"Thanks for everything Amy, you really helped me a lot."

"You owe me dinner then." She said playfully.

"Sure, some other time." After parting from Amy, Uriel followed Amy's directions towards Professor Lamar's lab with a wry smile on his face. He didn't have any hopes of learning anything useful from him, but more than that, he was actually a bit nervous about speaking to a professor and asking him to take him in as a student completely out of the blue.
